Yeah, so, that's how all race seasons should end. Did some stupid shit this year. Raced a duo 24 hr and landed on the podium behind two freaker friends, epic experience that involved lots of puking on my part. Then I kinda snapped and thought that racing a fixed gear in not one, but two hundred milers would be something neat to do.

It was.

That all led to me to this final race of the year, third of a series of three in my backyard of Michaux, PA. I'm back on the pretty in pink Yeti, fixy is disassembled for the year, and I'm racing with no self imposed 'handicaps' for the first time in what feels like forever. Race strategy is gonna be to push a hard, sustainable tempo via the HRM tachometer and linger, hoping to pick up some shattered souls late in the race. Of course, had to throw down at the start, rolling big ring, stringing it out, and then BAM, Bishop blows by like we've got training wheels on, shortly followed by Eatough, Halran, Platt, Keefer, etc. Fuuuuck, talk about humbling. Anyways, strategy and a heaping helping of local knowledge brought me home in 9th overall, 1st vet after 4:40 over 39 miles of gnarly gnargnar. Bishop won the thing in 3:49 and said it was the hardest race he'd ever ridden, period. Eatough was second, Harlan in third, then the really really fast regional guys followed by us mortal type folks. Damn it feels good to finish on a positive note.

I mean, god damn it feels good!

Now where's the mother fucking snow!
I mean seriously, fuck you ALL you Colorado fuckity fucks.
At least harvest time's a coming.

peace.

and Weyerbacher makes goooood beer.
seriously, it's quite good.

I didn't have a point until I saw this.

Point below vvv

I think you're lying. You've never done even 50 miles on a fixie. I don't even think you've ever even entered a bike race tomimcmillar (if that is your real name). In fact, I think you're a woman.

Nice work, I was going to hit Michaux also, but opted to hit the last MASS race at bear creek by allentown. I Probably hit the Michaux Maximus monster next year.

Those guys are animals, i wish i could have been there to be swooshed by the pros, Last Year Chris Eatough won the Wilderness 101 on Saturday, then sunday crushed everyone at the 2nd Michaux race- unbelievable.

I didnt believe it either until i rolled up next to him in the shenandoah MTN 100, they actually put your name on your number plate. I felt sort of like a pussy drafting of off a guy on a fixie.

That was a joke.

....based on "so what's your fucking point" in response to picture requests.

I believe anything and support someone's right to take a fun activity and transform it to weird.

Pedro,

Was good to bump into you during the hundo, sharing the slum with familiar names & faces helps pass the time. Hope you can make the Michaux races next year, they're pretty classic events. There's a rumor circulating that the Monstor loops might be stretched out to 100k next year, at least for two of the three races, maybe make the other one a fifty miler. How'd the last MASS race treat you? I haven't done one of those for years, lap races don't do much for me nowadays. And their eliminating the SS class and replacing it with that 'super sport' dilly kinda rubs me the wrong way....

KidWoo, that is a good line of support.

peace.

That would be sweet if they strech those loops out, we need more longer Races like that.

I don't mind doing laps, Im just not a big fan of short races-I don't dig the pain of sprinting for 2 hours- I would rather get the shit kicked out of me for 6 or 12 hours. I placed right in the middle of the sport class-

I am gong to try and Hit the Maximus Monster next year, If the schedules run the same as this year its the day after the MASS 6 hour race at french creek, so my goal is to have enough miles under my belt by April to hit both of them.

The dates are pretty much traditional, whichever Sunday falls around the 23rdish of April, Jul and Sept.....I rarely have adequate miles in the legs for the April race, I'd rather ski in Jan & Feb than freeze on the road bike at night after work. Not that burning laps at Roundtop is that great, but at least it's skiing and it sure as hell beats being stuck indoors 'training.'

I saw the WV thread ya'll were trying to put together, have you considered going to the SMBC Festival at Stokesvile? Same venue as the Hundo, same bike riding party vibe, but no racing. It's being held Oct 6-8 this year, lots of guided group rides or self tours if you're able follow a map. Last year I missed it due to a wedding, this year I'm missing it again because of a conflicting wknd party here at home.....

Yeah Im not going to spend a lot of time on the Road untill it gets warm-
Im looking to pick up a Steel Rigid Single Speed for training this winter. A few of the guys on the Team im joining ride all winter on single speeds at night--Otherwise ill just sit on the couch and drink beer.
