Conclusions:
0) Thursday 3/29/2007 was the day chosen to ski Silverton.

1) A special reduced group rate is available for that day by calling Silverton Mountain @ (970) 387-5706. You will need a password for the reduced rate. Please PM me for the password.

2) A number of people won't be able to make it that Thursday. I am willing to front for organizing another day that weekend. Please post in this thread if you folks want me to try to organize another day that weekend and I'll see what I can do (nudge nudge, wink wink).

3) Conditions permitting, bonus activities will be available.

waiting for a pm from buster with the password, unless someone wants to just post it in this thread before I can book for Thursday....

I have tentatively reserved a road accessible super pimp hut on Red Mountain Pass for Wednesday night, where a few of my buddies from t-ride, who want to ski Silverton on Thursday and I are going to stay. Hereby, all mags are officially invited to stay there as well, taking care of sleeping accomodations for the evening. The hut has beds for 14, a few couches, and a grip of floor space. If everyone stayed there, I can't imagine the cost would exceed 20 buck per person for the night(might be even cheaper) and it is so much pimper than any of the shitty hotels in Silverton. There is no doper place to party like a rockstar before shreding the gnar...

As well, I have tentatively reserved a hut (or should I say luxury palace) off the back of Telluride for Friday night, the 30th. This is the nicest hut I have ever seen in Colorado(sauna, geode inlayed soaking tub, beds for probably 16 and mad couch and floor space, all hand hewn from on site materials, full kitchen and bathrooms...) It is situated around some amazing, gnarly backcountry and has a 20' old mining tressle stepdown gap out the front door... sled/keg/skin accessible only.

Let me know how much interest there is from you cats about getting in on either/both of these hotspots so I can plan accordingly...

I also would be happy to show people the goods in T-ride/red mtn pass/ silverton as those are my old stomping grounds...

STOKED...

I told SM that the password would only come from me. I've ask that the maggots PM me for it and not pass it on.

If you're going to pass it on, at least tell me to fuck off so that SM knows what's going on, huh?

no unauthorized password passing on this end, don't blow a gasket big guy...

also, having lived in Telluride, I am sure that I can get a fairly resonable price on place for mags to stay on Thursday and Saturday nights if you guys want me to work on that. MInd you, it will be full Spring Break swing down there, so nothing is going to be cheap, but I can call in a favor from some realtor buddies and get the best deal possible... let me know.

it's pretty taxed. about 450 for the night... sounds crazy expensive, but i assure you between folks I know in T-ride, steamboat, breck and you guys off the boards, finding 15 folks (which would make it 30 for the night) will not be a problem. and i imagine we can find more and the price drops below that....

I JUST EMAILED THIS MESSAGE, WHICH SHOULD ANSWER SOME QUESTIONS...
It is definitely a spot to check out. so hot. the beauty of the spot is that you can access it right out the baldy gate at t-ride, so transport time can be as little as about 45 minutes from town, riding lifts, dropping in, and then traversing across one of the lakes up there. crazy... if you don't have a pass to access the mountain, it is around a 8 mile uphill skin. HAH! we'll have a few sleds to shuttle people, gear, and booze... in which case, from town, you have to drive about 25 minutes, unload and load up the sleds, and then it is about a 15/20 minute sled in. either way, minimal access issues except the dark, for sure under two hours relaxed-style from town. it is a pretty confusing area during the day, to say nothing of once night falls.

((asking about space and cost)) in all truth, the best thing that could happen is to get as many heads up there as possible because it is pretty taxed, probably about 450 for the night. that sounds like a lot but is not too crazy because we should be able to easily muster 15 people, which makes it 30 bucks a night and there are beds for that many and tons and tons of couch and floor space. i have buddies in t-ride who will come up for sure so we don't really even need to find that many folks off the boards. depending on snow, we usually head up around noon, get settled in, maybe a short tour or huck the trestle for the afternoon, and then party like rockstars, chill in the sauna and soaking tub, blessings to the most high, etc... the next morning, wake up early to pack up and go ski something sick, of which there are 4 or 5 great choices, head back to the house after skiing and roll out. you can skin back up a short 30 min-ish skin to the t-ride gate and ride lifts back into town to get back super fast or just coast down the appraoch back to the cars. feel free to invite others, but please only people who know what is going on because, as BusterH has seen, the snowpack out there is crazy and will swallow you. i encourage everyone to make it up to the hut, but again want to emphasize the seriousness of snowpack conditions and considerations in the area - far sketchier than probably anything you have encoutered previously. san miguel county is, statistically ranked, along with the county silverton and red mountain pass are in, as the most avalnache prone counties in the country. since there will likely be a grip of people up there(too many for one touring group), everyone who comes should feel secure being able to make all route finding, snow safety decisions, and potential rescues on their own.

I just received a phone call from Jim Russell, who owns the Alta Lakes Observatory (the place behind t-ride) and we are in a holding pattern. He is a bit of a strange bird(in the best ways possible), but informs me that he cannot complete the tentative reservation at this time because he is not sure if there is going to be water at the house in March!?! (Huh?) Anyway, he said he imagines by the end of the month to have the problem resolved and to plan on coming, but he will let me know, for sure, and take payment in December. The date has been blocked off and no one else will be able to book the 30th. no major issue (i think) but I wanted to let you guys know so we are all on the same page. I am going to plan on it happening until I hear otherwise and will let you all know as soon as I know more.

fuck the maggot totem pole( I didn't even know there was one). there are legit beds for like 14 peeps and two couches that may as well be beds. stay where you like, but anybody who thinks more posts or some bullshit like that means a doper spot is officially encouraged to not come.

As far as the maggot totem pole. I was more thinking of my skiing abilities. I can't huck a cliff if my life depended on it. Don't know if I wanna do an eight mile skin. (No sled here) But that doesn't mean I can't ski well and keep up with others. As well, I can pull bongs with the worst/best of em.

now we're talking.... as important as a good huck anyday. no one really has confirmed since it is still so far off and I just covered the cost of the hut and am not worried about it yet. I will start pinning people down come Dec/Jan and requesting confirmation and whatnot (I also have some friends who don't post on the boards that want to come so I need to check in with them as well). I just booked the hut now because these dates would have been taken by the time I tried to get them in Dec. I am not planning on skiing ten feet at the pre-silverton party location which is located about 100 yards from the higway, though it feels miles away. iration vibration, beers, and chilling on the deck looking at/rolling up trees...

RE: your PM, Reidhresko,

I'm not really down for touring from there, so it would probably be a good idea for me not to commit to the second date. However, having somewhere sweet ass sweet to stay Wednesday night for Thursday Silverton would be $$$, and assuming I didn't need to be "on top of my game" just to access the place, I'd definitely be down to book for Wednesday night.

Moral of the story: I know you're not booking yet, but I'm down for whatever doesn't require x-ray avy eyeballs, as I will NOT feel comfortable going if just the access is super-prone.

P.S. Thanks for putting this shit together! You rock!

well can't say i havent hucked a cliff or two in the days, but that was when my bones were soft , they are are now brittle and sore and my insurance isn't the greatest so i stay away from the cliffs nowadays.

the second part of the statement i'm down with.

will have to wait til next week to get the reservation as the alta powder pass deal was up today and one must have priorities

The only "offal icial" route is Silverton Mar 29... The rest is a free-for-all. If we're all within 200 road miles of each other I think we can pull this off through the use of cell phones and the intraweb.

I had been thinking I'd do Ah Spend the M-T before and then try to hit T'ride the Wednesday before. And as much as I'd like to join in the debauchery on RMP Wednsday night, I'll have my posse of wee ones in tow.

seems to me like snowpack conditions will dictate where to ski. i am likely to be skiing mostly t-ride sidecountry because i know it better and have nothing against using lifts to service the goods and ski more vert(not to mention it is one of my most favorite places), but i might be talked into a battleship or something else big if the snowpack is looking relatively stable on red mtn....

As for BC action, I have avy 1 and 2 certs and do a lot of BC in Tahoe. But as you said, SW CO is waayy different, and I would want to buddy up with a local that can call the snow pak better than I.

I assume i need to go to the Silverton web site and reserve a spot for the 29th? Then wait for deets on the T'Ride hut and send $$ when that is sorted?

Am thinking of a late March road trip: Tahoe -> Silverton -> T'ride -> Taos -> Moab -> Home (Tahoe).

will do. how is it looking numbers-wise (still plenty of spots left for the 29th?). i may wait a month or two to fully commit, so just curious.

Currently, there's probably enough left. I haven't checked in a few weeks. But these things go in quanta: for a while only about 4 people had registered, then all of a sudden 10 more jumped in.

Grrr... I missed the deadline. They are so hard to get ahold of. I left a bunch of messages over the last couple of weeks, no calls back, finally got a call back today when I was in an exam, called back, phone tag, you're it... on the last day for the discount. Balls.

So I'm probably out unless I can sweet talk them into giving me the discount past the deadline, but GFP and his sister got in so they're still going.

After reading this thread and seeing the pimp pad on page 1 I'm very interested in driving from PC/SLC area. Let me check with the "boss" and I need to confirm another trip to CO front range that I have brewing for this season. 2 trips to CO this year may be too much CO for me :D

reidhreskho - I'm definitely interested in both the Red Mtn and ToHellYouRide setups, could you tentatively count me in on those? Thanks for setting this up, mang.

This guy is from SLC. You still in Tri U?

About 6 hours SLC ToHellYouRide, in good conditions and moving reasonably fast with only breaks for fuel. I think I'm still in, though I've been playing phone tag with Jen and Aaron and still haven't set up my Silverton rez. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to make it out for the early week festivities at Asspen, though I might still try. Dunno when I'm leaving maybe Tue PM or Wed AM. You in K? It should be a fun road trip fo sho, and San Juans are way more fun than the FR.

I don't know man. The truth is I have paid little attention. My plan is to go back through the thread and make a list of peeps who already said they are in when I get back into the states in mid-Jan. At that time, it will be time for people to commit and a real list will emerge. Right now the answer is, for sure, fewer people than both huts comfortably hold, so I haven't worried about it. It seemed kind of ridiculous to try and get people to commit when I had to book the huts a few months ago. I put it out there so that it could percolate in the backs of people's minds until Jan. Rest assured you are already on the non-exisitent list;)

I'm seriously thinking about making this - put me on the non-existent list.

Also - I'm too overwhelmed by all the summit threads, haven't kept up, haven't read since they started, now they're all 4 pages. Someone want to give me the Cliffs Notes version? I know I have to pm someone for the Silverton part of it - but was it decided to extend the Silverton part of it, because that's the part I'm interested in doing, and doing for more than a day.

First, PM Buster for secret password

I told SM that the password would only come from me. I've ask that the maggots PM me for it and not pass it on.

If you're going to pass it on, at least tell me to fuck off so that SM knows what's going on, huh?

Then follow #1

Conclusions:
0) Thursday 3/29/2007 was the day chosen to ski Silverton.

1) A special reduced group rate is available for that day by calling Silverton Mountain @ (970) 387-5706. You will need a password for the reduced rate. Please PM me for the password.

2) A number of people won't be able to make it that Thursday. I am willing to front for organizing another day that weekend. Please post in this thread if you folks want me to try to organize another day that weekend and I'll see what I can do (nudge nudge, wink wink).

3) Conditions permitting, bonus activities will be available.

and expect some phone tag.

You can always hop over the hill to Purgatory or ToHellURide for the day, or snowcat it, or go to Ouray and endulge in the hot springs pool, or... if you feel it's out of your league.

I'd (somewhat reluctantly) add that if you can get some practice in with a beacon, to be able to locate, and can operate a probe and a shovel, one would be able to pull it off. Go see some SAR folks and see if you can get in on some of thier sessions.

Just bumping this because I realized I need to make room reservations for Thursday night(I will probably ski at least part of Friday at T-Ride before I have to head back to Aspen) and was wondering if people are staying in Silverton that night or had suggestions? I don't mind getting a bigger room in town and squeezing people in or whatever. Have people already made plans? are people driving on to Telluride Thursday night or staying in Silverton etc?....

Joey: I'd be interested in sharing a room for Thursday, depending on the drive time to Aspen from Silverton (2 hours or less is probably my cut off). If I don't stay in Silverton for cheeeeeap I'll be heading to aspen Thursday night to sleep in the lesbomobile (aka outback). Shit, gotta find someplace to put the massive strap on so I have room in the back to sleep!

Edit: FKNA! Found a place to shower. :D Many thanks, Buster.

A decent crew of us are planning on cruising up to T-ride after Silverton on Thurs. Not speaking for everyone, but the 'crew' I mention includes me, Marsha, Z, Hresko, & coldsmoke w/ other Steamboat crew...probably a total of 8 - 10. I booked a room in T-ride on Thurs and again on Sat and I believe the 'boat crew did as well, but not 100% sure.

Bottom line Joey Joe, if you don't come across others to split something with ya, you are welcome to throw a bit of cash my way and snag some floor space in our room.

Thanks for the offer Vicious. I was kinda thinking of heading on to T-Ride that night. I got a room there and if anyone wants to split/crash there just let me know. And if anyone wants a ride from Aspen to Silverton/T-Ride I will be driving, but I will be heading back to Aspen on Friday around 1ish since I have places to be the rest of that weekend, so it would kinda be a one way ride. And Gosey, I think the drive back to Aspen is probably around 3-4 hours from Silverton, but I could be way off

JoeyJJJS - I'll split a room with you in T-ride. If we can't get a place, Vicious - I also might be looking for some floorspace and would be happy to contribute. I suppose you and JJ can see what your options are and if not, shoot me a PM or we can just talk logistics that Thurs down in Silverton.

Sorry for not chiming in on this earlier. As of right now, Vicious has a one bedroom condo and coldsmoke and the crew from the boat have a studio. The plan was to split the group evenly between the two rooms so that no one gets stuck paying a ton and neither place ends up super crowded. Both are in Cimarron at the base of lift 7, in town. It sounds as if TRiU has a third room, hopefully in town, which means that there is more than enough space for everyone. If it turns out that this is not the case, no one will be sleeping in a truck - I can easily find a place for you to crash. If someone is worried about it, shoot me a pm and let me know.

in agreement that now it just needs to snow, PLEASE!!!!

otherwise, it might be a good call to bring some bikes down and roll out to moab, which is about 2.15 from tride.

hopefully, now that bourgie-ass Vicious is headed to Cabo for some large living and massages, it should DUMP!
