This is a JONG question..my knowledge is in snowboarding equip, not bikes (as I'm sure many of you have noticed)
I just bought a new fork for my mountain bike and I'm wondering exactly the style of riding its intended for. I had a suntour xcp90 on there (100mm coil no rebound dampening) which has served me well for 4 years now, but I was looking for a little dampening. I purchased a suntour Duro-D fork which has hydrolic non-adjustable dampening. I know some people dog on this fork for breaking, but after researching it a bunch, it would appear that the only people that are busting it are people that are doing 5ft + drops to flat with it. That said, since I dont plan on ever doing anything that big on it, I felt it would be just fine (I do mostly XC riding with no more than a 30" drop at max). Anyway, after purchasing it, and reading some more, despite suntours description as an 'all mountain' fork, it appears that most people consider it a dirtjump/freeride/urban fork..also peole say its a really slow action fork... what is the big difference between a dirtjump/freeride fork and an all mountain fork? I know I can adjust the rebound speed with the weight of oil in it and I'm just wondering if I need to change the oil to something lighter for my riding style.
