View Full Version : Location of JH Face From Vids?

I got to ride at JH for 2 weeks in late January, it was awesome! Spent the whole time hiking lift accessed out of bounds from the tram (RIP tram!).

I was wondering about a face that I see all the time on snowboard videos, that is credited as being at Jackson Hole, and where it is located in relation to the resort.

It is a large/wide face, with a number of wide horizontal cliff bands. Riders drop 3 or 4 seperate cliffs down the one run, cliff drop/couple of turns/cliff drop/couple of turns/etc.

Any idea where this is, and what it is called? Is it across the valley looking out the back from the top tram dock?

Pretty much what you said above -- across the valley off the "back" of the resort / looking west. If you hiked out to Cody Peak, you would pretty much be able to see it to the west (i.e., you're right as you hike the peak).

Well...if you were actually on the Tram dock itself, you couldn't see it...but if you were hiking out from the bowl, you might. It's really behind No Name/Rendezvous peaks (west of them).

Yep, noticed it out to the right when hiking Pucker Face.

Well, that is different than seeing it from the Tram dock. You were probably looking at the North Shore if you saw it after starting to head south on the ridge (as opposed to east).

Did you see it before taking off your skis on the way out to Pucker? I'm assuming you noticed it after the bootpack and before dropping Pucker.

...me in orange pants, I think the face I was looking at and wondering if it was the face I had seen on the vids was out to the right during this hike.

Sorry, poor memory for exact details, especially after the number of resorts I visited on the 4 week holiday (Aspen Highlands, Silverton, Crested Butte, Winter Park, Steamboat, Jackson Hole, Pebble Creek). Actually 3 and a half weeks, as had to rush home to Australia early to be with my mother after she had a heart attack and then a stroke. Got to see her for a few days in Australia before she died of a second heart attack...straight from the best time of my life to the worst...so, so sad...it makes me cry just thinking about it as I'm typing.

If what you saw is Roo's picture (which is easily visible from the Tram dock and lower down), you were looking at Cody, No Name, and Rendezvous Peaks (in order of closest to furthest).

The canyons are Rock Springs, Green River, Pinedale, and No Name.

This is a view to the South. I think you were referring to a view to the West/Southwest as you hiked the shoulder of Cody. That would be the N Shore.

With apologies to Roo (I thought it was a good shot), I sharpened his image a touch and added some labels to attempt to clarify things.
