I would get explosives, but hey that's just me;) ( and I would get freeride instead of naxo)

You still can...no time that night mang. Gotta get something quick here...leave for France on the 17th.
I'm leaning toward the b3 because I've been on XXX for years and love em. If I had not destroyed one last weekend @ Alta this post would not exist. If it were all the same I'd prolly want a Sugar Daddy but they seem to have vaporized and present Naxo / Freeride mounting issues for those without access to a good ski shop.
Why the Freerides over the naxo's? This will not be a one trick pony set up...but a do it all rig. Has to be able to take a beating at Alta and wiggle the Retallack BC trees with equal ease.

Explosives and freerides.
Why,
Volkl's stand up to more abuse, period
-base
-edge
-sidewall
-time
-easier to fix if they in fact, blow an edge
Freerides, tried and tested.
Go with what YOU know. That's what's right.;)

Explosiv
I've owned XXs and Scratch BCs. If only for the better durability, go for the Volkl. Personally, I'm sick and tired of these HUGE gouges from minor rocks.
Also, from what i've heard the B3 is a little bit of a noodle compared to the XXX (i haven't demoed). I have demoed the explosiv (last years) but I wanted a fuller twin tip and they were many more $$ (demos were all sold so i would have had to buy new) so I bought the scratch bcs.
just my opinion...
now what we really need is a explosiv with a full twin tip. I'm going to start a petition when i get around to drafting one to send to volkl....

I have (had) the Volkl-Freeeride setup you're considering. Absolutely loved it. Great in the pow, but straight enough to take through the woods and not even notice it (okay, maybe a little, but surprisingly responsive). They held up fine through low snow seasons in NE and the EC till I did this at Crystal in 2 feet of fresh over New Years:

So the Volkl durability didn't work out so well on that one. Oh well
Good luck
Heard the naxo's have a problem with the release of the heel part while skiing (this happened more than once with the guy from the testteam i spoke to). Other than that, the toe has broken twice in a testperiod of 4 days. They brought them in for research and the engineer commented that it was due to a construction error (dunno the technical story, but it had to to with stressing the plastics), which would take quite some time and remodelling to fix.
So I wouldn't buy the first year naxo's...

You need a rando binder to go cat skiing?
Really it depends was type of ski you like. If the b3s are anything like the bandito, then the spolsive in much stiffer.

Nope, but I am looking at doing a few days of touring around Nelson prior to our cat days this year with one of the guides from Retallack. Not to mention a few days at WH20 and the Euro Mini in La Grave. It seems like a good idea to me no? I really don't do that much true resort skiing.

Heard the same thing about the freerides.
That might be true, however, I don't question the guy I spoke with. He has done many tests with all sorts of gear for a dutch skiing magazine and this was an off the record statement. He favours the freerides over the naxos about 10 to 1.

An Exploder/Freeride set up would have to be preferable especially as the top drag at La Grave looks very broken indeed.

I'm leaning toward the B3's and the freerides, just don't have any experience with the Exp's and I'm not sure how I'll like em in the trees. The B3's I know will perform for me in British Columbias tightest and steepest forests as they are even more turny than the XXX that I loved.

A 185 b3 is going to be more turney than the Vex and better at tight low pitch trees. But it will blow up way sooner. I like the shape of the b3, just worried about durability. Do you want an SUV or a tank?

For easy soft snow skiing, go B3. For mach schnelling, go Explosive.
splosive gets the nod for durability.

i'd put the naxo's on the B3's. The Naxo seems a little beefier than the freerides, and there's an extra pivot point underfoot to make climbing easier. the explosives seem a little heavy for hauling uphill.

I demoed B3s a couple of weeks ago at Crystal on a deep snow day. They are a damn fun ski. Good turns, fairly stable (altho not Explosive-stable), and they hold an edge surprising well on packed snow. They are softer than the Volkl, but fun.
That said, I hit a rock that I expected to leave a minor scratch, and it absolutely killed the bases of both those skis. Huge damage in my opinion.
Loved the ski, question the durability.
