Ptex is an integeral part of the ski and ski maintnence(sp?) but what do we know about it? Oh sure, it's a plastic varying in density depending on quality and comes in black or clear. But where does it come from? Who makes the stuff? Is the term 'ptex' just for the snow industry? What exactly is it made out of? I'm wondering because someone asked me and I couldn't give them a better answer than the "plastic in varying density" answer. It seems somebody out there in the manufacturing world should have a more technical and in depth explaination of what ptex is. Or point me to a website with some good info.

IMS Plastics (www.ims-plastics.com) owns the P-tex trademark and has a page (http://www.ims-plastics.com./eng/produkte_uhmw.html) for JONGs like you, as a staring point. It's interesting that they use snowboards as an example for extruded thermoplastics while many snowboards manufacturers are now on the sintered bandwagon.
