Some good info.
I have been using the peips dsp this season and it is an great beacon, although it has problems locking out older beacons in its multiple fuction.

Do you have the old software or the new software.

I just got mine upgraded. I can't say whether or not they fixed the bug you mentioned above, but the battery life has improved significantly since I upgraded.

I upgraded mine; didn't notice much improvement with older beacons, but like you said battery life is definitely better. I still like it, it's just not perfect, but then nothing is.
