Dagger Kingpin

I have a line on a Dagger Kingpin 6.3 for $450. It is 2 years old, no issues w/ oil canning etc. Looks to be in good shape.

What I am wondering is if anybody knows if its features and/or outfitting have changed that much in 2 years?

It's a good hull but they leak like a sieve. I'm sure BB will tell you it's the best boat out there but he paddles one. They've gone through a couple versions with the Icon and such. I think the inflatable hippads suck also. They do paddle well but coldwater playboating/river running with a seriously leaky boat sucks.

It's not that hard to fix a leaky boat, unless the cockpit design is just truly fucked.

Two hours with a wrench, screwdriver, and 100% silicone should make just about any boat boner dry.

Freak, the design is the same, I am sure outfitting has changed a little, but IMO, the only way to get a good fit in a boat is with some foam, a serrated knife, some sandpaper, and contact cement.

Kingpin is a great boat. Like BB I paddle one but I picked it out of alot of boats. I'm definitely not getting hookups from Dagger so I'm fairly unbiased. It is leaky. Silicone helps for a little while and you can tighten everything as much as you want but the problem is they put two plastic screws directly under the seat through the hull...don't know what genius thought this was a good idea. The inflatable hip pads suck. I'm heavy so they fit me perfectly without air in them so I left them but skiinier guys I know ripped them out and went with minicell. The cockpit design is fine. I like the backband. The first year had cam strap tighterners (I don't like these) but they then went to the flippy adjusters that are either tight or loose (not a ratchet style). The seat is comfy and easy to move for/aft. The Icon is heavier and came with removeable pods (mine were removed to the shed where they have stayed). The hull shape has stayed the same. I'm 210 and paddle the 6.3. The Crazy 88 6.3 is a no go for my weight.

Best luck is a flexible caulk/silicone. When the water is cold and the hull flexes, the epoxy will most likely crack.

It's not the bolts it's the cockpit design. The Embudo has a similar problem. The skirt does not get a good seal on the underside of the cockpit rim.Check here for more info. http://www.mountainbuzz.com/viewtopic.php?t=7456&highlight=kingpin

I've heard that but haven't had too much trouble with my skirt (Wildwasser) but wouldn't rule that out. I did watch water come through the bottom two holes at a pool session. Probably a combination of the two. I just deal with it because I like the boat.

Bad enough that your gear is soaked when you get out. That's what chaps me. I don't "dress to swim" for p-n-p or easy runs neccessarily. I like to wear baggies. I don't own one but my buddies that do are sponging out every ride in thrashy holes.

$450 for a 2 year old boat? Sounds like a rip-off to me. Our local shop guy will offer not much more than that for a new one when he does his sale.

For one that MSRP's at $1200, sells new in shops for $1000, and I've never seen it on sale for less than $750. It's a current hull design, and if the plastic is in good shape, that's definitely what the boat is worth. It's not a steal, but you could sell 2 year old Kingpins on Boatertalk for $450 all day long. I'd buy one for $450 if I was looking for one.

I know how much they cost. I've seen Pyranhas and Riots that retail new for the same amount on sale at Aqua-Sports for around $500 - $650. Maybe Dagger holds their value better but for a two year old boat, I'd want a better price.

"Rip-off" was probably too strong of a descriptor.

I would say after pnp for an hour I find it easier just to get out and drain it.
