View Full Version : To fix, or not to fix?

So here's my former (:( ) race ski with its now blown sidewall, bent edge, and warping base. I did this in my last race last year landing a bit flat off a roller, and it's been skied on about six times since then, which I think is making the base warp more.
Can it really be fixed, and what would the cost be? I do love these skis, but if it's going to cost a lot to fix I probably won't bother.

Rossi ski? If I'm right, I would say it's a little tricky with that ski, is it a half vertical and half cap sidewall?
Lots of epoxy and set up time, can gert you running again, not costly but time consuming.

Yes, it's a Rossi and the 'Dualtec' thing. I figured epoxy, but the edge is bent (slightly out and down) and base has a bunch of very small ripples.

Cut the base out for sure the ripples are caused by water seperating the base from the core. You may or not be able to dremel out the material around the edge if it's not free already and try to put it back into place. Definitely recommend edge screws.
I've had mixed results with factory edges after they have bent or been displaced significantly. Sometimes it's easier to cut it out and replace with a new one. That way you can build and shape the sidewall and core material back into the original lines.
Hard to tell in the photo, how long is the edge blown out? 3-4" with more sidewall damage around it?

If you replace the edge, try using an edge from a snowboard and use brass screws to help hold 'er down in place. Snowboard edges tend to be wider, thus giving you more surface area to bond with the base and make a strong repair.

Yes, CD, the bent edge covers about 3", with more blown sidewall on either side. Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, I have no tools beyond tuning basics, and rarely even get to use a real tuning table, so I don't think I can do much of this on my own. I guess I'll just take it somewhere and see what they say? But I'm reluctant to put much money at all into these boards.
