Avy beacon \ probe set idea

so hopefully this isnt too crazy an idea ill get flamed but here goes
...and maybe someone has thought of this or they already exist but...

Why not make a beacon and probe set where the probe can plug into the beacon and function as the antenna?
Seems at a minimum you could place the appropriate antenna for the 457Mhz frequency (or whatever it is) at the tip of the prope and have a 9 foot sweeper to faster locate and differentiate between signal directions.

With further advances maybe even have a continuous sweeper mode\function with the probe to make it act more like a metal detector for final close searches. You could have a near continuous map of the area you pass the probe over. LCD GUI \ software would need to be upgraded as well to display the high\low signal response from below the 8 feet of the probe length.

Im just imagining someone standing in the 3 meters someone is burried, rotating 360* and having a radar screen with a blip as to the location.

anyway enough day dreaming

dont care about the money from an idea like this if it is feasible...id rather hear about lives saved. just thought id throw it out there

And you thought nobody read this thread. This could be very interesting for deep burials; however, it appears to only work with beacons with iProbe support. I would imagine the iProbe support is only available with Pieps beacons.

Saw one of these in Yurp. Seems like a great idea, and I can attest that it at least works with Pieps (albeit the demonstration was in a bar). Even if the "more things to break" principle comes into play, you still have a functional probe.

I am now thinking about buying an iprobe for the Avi courses I teach. I think it may be interesting to play around with as a teaching device. Asking students how close they think they have pinpointed a burial during a beacon search and showing them with the iprobe. Plus it would help me turn beacons on and off for different types of searches without digging more holes.

Imagine having your immediate search team do a beacon search and find the burried beacon. Turn the beacon off and have a probe line find the burried victim without having to dig again. This could save a lot of time. While I think this could be an interesting training device, I am not so sure it will be helpful in an actual rescue. A well trained rescue team should certainly be able to distinguish between two or three different beacons within the same search. The need to turn a beacon on or off is probably not a smart thing to do. Just my thoughts.
