View Full Version : How should I set up my Soft Bros?

Scored a pair of Soft Bro blems... Thanks, splat!
I've the stiffs with P14's for mostly deeper days. Have Head Monster 88's with P14's for everyday terrorizing.
Been thinking about setting the soft Bros up for AT, or possibly for big mountain super-deep powder only.
I've Rossi Pro 1 boots, so long approach and/or multi-day touring is out. An AT set-up for me would be mostly resort accessed backcountry or shorter approaches.
Wondering if I should set up the softs with Naxos or Freerides, and keep an eye out for a more compatible alpine boot; or put some 916's on them and deal with Trekkers, since I'm not really anticipating going for huge tours.
WWMD?

I scored a pair of those blems too. I went 1040 back with naxo's. Geez it's a light set-up. those skis are great skinners. I cut the BD Ascensions to fit...The BROS haul ass and have made me happy on the descents. Another friend swears by his freeride and whatever crappy ski he can mount:tdo13: , but we're doing it for the down hill....that's why the BROs rule as your AT skis

Trekkers suck. Soft bros + freerides are a fantastic AT setup - just popped the cherry on mine last weekend and I can't believe I let myself suffer with trekkers for that long.
I am happy with this
Soft Bro's FreeRides. Garmont.
I don't have much touring experience but I will attest to the down hill performace.

My softs are mounted with P14s at the recommended line. So far, they've rocked, although I experienced a bit of tip dive last weekend in our un-Tahoelike deep light pow.
My AT setup is almost exactly like MTT's. My soft Bros have Freerides. I also have Garmont Adrenalins. Light and ready to go anywhere/all conditions. These are my everyday skis whether it be resort or backcountry. I love skiing on these.
Though I also do have a pair of last year's stiff Bros w/ Tyrolia demos for my "rock" skis. I feel I am very fortunate.

Been thinkin about the new Naxos and eventually Adrenalines (if I can ever find em for a decent price). Or even a "softer " performance alpine boot might accomplish what I'm looking for. Really hate to lose the high performace aspect of the Bros by going with lower performance binders and boots.
I really don't want to give up downhill performance for AT ability; but I agree Trekkers can be troublesome. I think my boots might be more limiting than the binding choice, at this juncture.

I have Naxo's on the way and I'm looking for adrenalins cheap..maybe over the summer. Use those for touring only. (throw on alpine if i take my bro's in bounds)
You have plenty of lift served skis, Don't bother with more salomon bindings. If you are going to ski soft snow in the BC then I'd keep the softs for that. More Variable snow and maybe the stiffs should become the BC skis. Think about which would work best where and set one up for touring. You can always find cheaper touring boots for next year later on.
