Who's in? We have $37 lift tix coupons to share, so raise your hand if you want one. Lotsa Utards promised me last month that they would come out for this one, so I expect to see the AGs, CS, Meatdrink, Stump. WSD and LPH, we expect you, too! Time to make travel arrangements all of you PNWers (Squirrel?) and ECers. Me, I'll be busy making party arrangements. Last year was off the hook, this year we'll go even bigger.
WHEN: Thursday, May 4 through Sunday, May 7
WHERE: Mammoth, of course.

The coupon is for 5 people, I have two so that's 10 people. Just have to buy multi-day ticket at same time, all at once. Others here have more coupons.
I plan to be there on Saturday and Sunday for sure, maybe more. I also have two coupons to share. I can hand them off earlier to other Mammoth maggots if they are needed on Thursday or Friday.
I'm interested in a hook-up for a place to crash on Saturday night (maybe Friday night too.)

I wouldn't mind meeting some of the MM Mags. I was planning on skiing Shasta during that timeslot, but may defer or bump up a week or two. Will be up for MOSTLY BC. Red Slate, Bloody, Dana, etc...You can hook up with us if you like.

Reno is closer than flying into LAX. You can rent a car and drive ~2.5 - 3 hours depending upon roads. Basically straight down 395.
yogachik
03-09-2006, 05:39 PM
Reno is closer - try to hitch a ride with one of the Tahoe group (or with Splat, who is in Reno).
But from LAX, there's always some Maggot doing the drive north - lots of rides to choose from.

I have to agree with that one - Uber is our King of Steeze.
Lego and I will be there at the mini - we just arrived home from Seattle and already I'm thinking about going somewhere else to ski! :)

I'll probably be up for it, as I didn't make the summit this year.
So this sounds like a lot of fun... I think maybe I'll try to go.
What kind of runs would you guys all say you're most interested in doing? I'm a bit nervous skiing with new people just because I have no idea what their expectations are... by the time this comes around i'll have made it up there a couple more times...
and what's the lodging situation like???

Just so you know, the spring skiing scene is way more mellow than any other time up there. since a lot of the gnar has melted out by then, the idea is just to follow the sun around the mountain and get the best corn and nobody is in any kind of huge hurry. It's a really fun vibe and usually splinter groups will form and reform throughout the day. And it's really hard to beat skiing with cool people, on a sweet mountain with perfect carving snow in a t-shirt.

OK so i think i'm going to commit to this-- i spent the last three days up there doing a ton of tree runs and spent a little bit up time way up at the top (thanks so much gebster).
What's the lodging situation going to be like? should i try to reserve something at motel 6 or can i count on something happening through here??

While riding the chair up at Sugar Bowl yesterday, I heard from a patroller that Sugar Bowl will likely stay open on the weekends through the month of May. If this happens, then I'll surely be out. If they don't stay open, I'll probably (but not certainly) go to this year's Mini...

I'm going to try to make it. I have some ski projects along 395 that have been on my list for a while. My main obstacle is that I'm off the map for April 19th-30th and my girlfriend my impose some intercourse related veto power if I try to disappear for another week less than a week after the 2 weeks gone. I'll politic it. I still need to ski with Viva this year (and last year!).

I have one major problem with going: I have no friends to go or stay with. I don't like the idea of driving up there and staying alone. So it's sort of a matter of whether or not I can find someone, or if someone from here would drive up and stay somewhere with me (the drive and lodging people don't have to be the same person). The problem with staying with someone is that I'd really only be comfortable with someone of the female variety. So there you have it, I really really want to go, but it may not work out. Shitty.

There are motels that are like $60/night. Condos are super cheap that time of year, some 2 bedrooms are $129/night. Go to http://www.visitmammoth.com and click on accomodations and be sure to check out the special lift/lodging packages on that site, too.

Well, I'm sure you're not going "up" 395 to get to Mammoth, since in this Euro-centric society of ours, our coloquialisms often consider "north" the same as "up."
Therefore, there's loads of BLM land if you're coming down 395 from the greater Reno/Carson City area. Loads and loads of it. There's also plenty of forest service land that doesn't get nearly enough traffic for anyone to bother you. Just take one of the multitudes of side roads between June and the Mammoth Scenic Loop turn off (or even the Scenic Loop turn off if there's not much snow.
