Freerides/Naxos=the SUV of skiing?

I get the impression that the new 12-DIN bindings are pretty much like SUV's. Everybody wants one, and only 10% of the people who do have them take them outside the resort.

Just an observation. What % of your time do you spend on your AT binders in/out of resort? (I can't comment yet, but I have my Freerides on the way)

I guess that's why I have a sports car and some Alpine Trekkers. OK, I may revisit the Trekkers bit (and alpine shoes) after a few skins...

Odin - I have a book of step by steps on putting a Miata body on the frame of a '44 Willy's jeep in case you want to borrow it.
Now even YOU can access the b/c in sporty stylee.

Exactly. With an SUV you put up with a gas hog that wallows around turns, so that you can have something that only gets used 15% of the time.

Just like most people on Freerides.

Willy won't let me touch his anymore, something about possible interstate bird watching licenses. Much like the naxo it's obscure, but french.

These days I'm only skinning about 1 day per 8 (12.5%) of lift served. If the storms dissipate, the ratio rises.

But I use DI's, DII's and FRs and have used them as my only bindings since 1997. Been driving awd station wagons since 1992 too and I hate SUVs from a handling POV.

Only 1 day in 3 of skiing on my freerides do I put skins on, but they do get used in walk mode on flats every time I ski on them....I prefer them ofer all other binders as they are the only ones that I haven't had prerelese problems with!...for inbounds or lift served I have sollies

Well, guess i fit into Particle Man's SUV club. Since I got the freerides, probably only 5 days with long hikes, 5 or 6 days of lift accessed hiking, and 25+ more days of resort skiing on the freerides.

That said, I don't feel guilty at all. The bindings cost virtually the same as new bindings (which I needed anyways) + the trekkers. I can't afford to have an entirely different set of skis for IB only. And I have skinned a number of places that I probably wouldn't have wanted to walk in my boots. Also, if the South American snow season had been a bit better I probably would have gotten another 5 or 6 days skinning in this summer...

OK... so who feels that there is any significant co,promise in performance since iu can use alpine boots? That would knock another hole in the SUV argument

i do like elevens' sloppy handling vs. go-anywhere analogy. i haven't skied em in bounds yet so again i'm just spewing again. is it time to go home yet?
