Problem with my binders

I have some atomic 412 bindings and I can't set them correctly to my new boots. The new boots are the same brand, and only 1mm different, but for some reason they keep popping off very easily (I can kick them off), even though the DIN is at 8.


What I did was pop my new boot in, and adjust the forward pressure indicator so that it was flush with the back of the tail piece.

Is that all I have to do? If it is, then there must be something else because it doesnt work. I'm thinking it has something to do with the toe piece height, but I dont know how to change that.

If it's that, how do I go about changing it?

Is there a manual online for these binders?

Sounfds like you got the fwd pressure right, but check the toe heigth. Most of the time the toe heigth shouldn't be that big of a deal to let you blow out, unless it's way off. Those heel pieces have a tendency to go though, if it looks like they aren't actually going into the actual lock position that could be it.

what do you mean by "go" that they just die after awhile? (they are 3 years old and used heavily)

This seems to be the case because they dont lock down very well at all. They dont have that satisfying "snap" when you click in.


What do I do? are they fixable?

3 years would put them in the range of an issue they were having. When the boot isn't in and the heel is cocked ready for a boot the release lever at the back should move freely. If it doesn't but sticks instead then a part is broken inside. Take them to a dealer it could be warrantied. When adjusting the forward pressure it's usually better to screw the forward pressure screw in 1 or2 mm beyond flush with the housing.

What L7 said, they have a shitty plastic cam in them that breaks down. We've warrantied a couple of pairs with no problem.

cool thanks. How do I go about getting the warranty? I think I'm just going to bring it to a shop to make sure it is broken and that I didn't screw up the adjustment or anything, and then I will pursue the warranty.

It would probably be easiest to go through the shop you got them from, but any Atomic dealer should be able to elp. They will need to call and get an RA (Return Authorization) and send them in for you. Don't know what their turn times are but I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for it.

I was just thinking maybe you could score a set of the new bindings. I think the intro on them is this month. They look sweet BUT they finely changed the hole pattern so they won't go on old Atomic plates or the holes in the current ski.

Thanks guys, I will bring them into a shop the next time I get a chance. They are my rock skis so I'm not too worried about how long it will take, but I'd like for it to be done within a month.


Hopefully I can score some new binders :D


oh and bandit, I got some Rossi 140's on my new skis, and they are bomber

I've got a pair of the 412s and I have to run them higher(11) versus my other skis (9) to get the same release characteristics. Atomics eject like no other, I dislike them more than even my markers. Blasphemy! And the fact that they are the least positive feeling binders when clicking in, I'd never buy another set.
