Right I'm coming over your way folks for 2 weeks around the end of March to visit a mate living in the Rogers Pass neighbourhood.

I lived in Cham for a few years, done alot of the bigger lines. Done la grave & few of the other bigger yoyo spots aswell.

So i'm just wondering what to look forward to? What's the snow likely to be like? Where's best to go? What lines should i really try & get in? Will i pull hot chicks? Is the beer any good? How long is a peice of string? Basically i want it all & i want to know it all, give me your knowledge, your gems, your wisdom.

2 guidebooks for the region - Chic Scott Summit and Icefields Columbia Mountains and Murray Toft's guidebook. There are also two maps - one in metric and one in imperial both good. All from the GNP headquarters

Two main drainages to ski to get yourself started - Connaught Creek from the GNP HQ and the Illecillawaet south of the hwy.

Look here to get a flavour. http://www.pc.gc.ca/pn-np/bc/glacier/index_e.asp - info about avvy conditions etc.

Lots of snow currently - might be some instabilities from Dec - look for facets etc. Some glacier travel for the more obscure areas; nice to have harness, rope, ice-ax for steeper stuff.

You dont' say what you want to do, experience level, where you want to stay etc so I can't give specifics.

Some TRs are here:

There's a lot more info over at www.telemarktips.com also about specifics.

I'm pretty experienced alpine mountaineer, skier & tourer. I'm happy on anything up to about 45/47 degrees (depending on conditions), can ski up to about 51/52 if i need to. Though i wouldn't be too happy on that for any prolonged stretches. I've skied the NNE face of the Courtes, & all the big lines on the midi in Cham eg Col du plan, cosmiques, glacier rhonde. Should give you a resonable idea of my ability level.

I'll be staying with a mate who lives there. I'm just trying to get a feel for what it'll be like basically. Also trying to find out if there are any must do lines to get in. Hope this helps you hlep me.
