What's the difference in G3 probes?

Hey all, I was having a look at the G3 320cm probes offered by MEC here in Canada, and there are two types that seem to be fore sale; the G3 Avalanche Speed Probe 320cm, and the G3 Avalanche Tech Speed Probe 320cm.

So, what's the difference. I had a look at the specs, and the only difference I noticed was that the tech one had markings every 5mm or so? Is this really only meant for avi forcasters? For the recreational user, is there any real point in getting the Tech probe?

Everyone who ski's back country IS an avalanche forecaster, or else they're an avalanche instigator....

If you have a sufficient length ruler just get the regular probe.
