Hi all,

My wife and I will be Skiing Banff Jan 15 - 18, this is the first time in the mountains for both of us. We were wondering if there was anyone who could show us around Lake Louise or Sunshine so we don't end up on a black. We both do blues but the trail maps look so confusing. If anyone could help a guy out that would be appriatcted.

The areas are not too confusing once you are at the hills. and just about all the lifts have a blue option.

most hills have free tours too, most maggots give free tours too but they are more black then blue.

I worked in Lake Louise for a year, and here are a couple pointers...

The main front side is super easy for finding blue runs, they're very well marked and easy to find. The only area to be a little wary about if you're really not into blacks is the summit platter. There are a couple of blue runs that will take you back down to the top of the Top of the World chair, but the backside of the mountain from this chair is all blacks.

In terms of backside options... there is a nice groomer that is available from the top of the Top of the World chair that will take you around to the backside of the mountain. It's spectacular back there, to the say the least. Once you're back there, you can use the Paradise chair to get to the top of the Top of the World Chair again. Likewise on the backside, there is a groomer that will take you to the backside of the mountain that starts from the top of the Grizzley express Gondola (new since I was there, but I assume it goes to the same place a previous lift went to...). Temple Lodge is a nice little restaurant back there in the valley between the Larch area and the Ptarmigan chairs.

The Larch area is also a very friendly area for finding blue runs. The best one is normally just the big wide open groomed run if you go left as you get off the chair.

Lake Louise is a beautiful mountain, and in my mind the scenery is second to none. Just make sure you explore all of the different areas of the mountain, it's not too complicated and it's pretty easy to figure out where you are.

Thanks for the tips! This id the first time either of us have gone "Big Mountain" Skiing. We are excited to say the least
