based on the unanimous jonging i got last time i mentioned ski jackets, I'm not gunna say anything stupid about zip off sleeves and insulated jackets ;). and yes, i self-jong for that :D

so, I want something with 10,000mm or up resistance, lightweight, and hip length. powder gaiter would be nice but is not essential. I don't particularly care about insulated/non-insulated. Lightweight is nice, but once again not essential. im not looking at softshells, as i already have a windstopper fleece. I'd prefer it in red, but thats not a deal-breaker. Also, I don't want to go for something with that old school look to it...
So far considering:
-Spyder Venoms (people on the venom team have any opinion they're allowed to express?)
-Arc'teryx Sirrus SL
-Acr'teryx Beta AR
-Arc'teryx Sidewinder SV

Price is not really a limitation at this point as it'll come from my parents money.

I have an ArcTerx shell (not sure which one) and it is freaking bomber. Everything you need and nothing you don't. The hood is amazing and it is very articulated and comfortable. 100% weather proof and light. Plus it is cut for people that are in shape so it doesn't feel like you are wearing a bag. I love it. But would not pay 450 for one... got it on sale.

Ok, I've found a couple of jackets that seem to be the leaders in the field.

Arc'teryx Sirrus SL-http://www.backcountrystore.com/store/ARC0014.html

Mountain Hardwear Recon Jacket-

Mountain Hardwear Tenacity

Mountain Hardwear Tenacity Lite

Opinions? Am I excluding anything that deserves to be here?

I goin on my second year with the theta ar and really like it. Its super bomber and I use it all year. It may look 'old school', its your basic shell. Its simpleness and well designed features make it a sweet jacket. Kinda pricey though.

reco:
1. any shell w/ Gortex.
2. pit zips are really nice making it an all season.
3. look for articulated elbows and hood.
4. stowable hood (mine folds up but I would have preferred a detachable or zip into collar hood)

I am using a marmot in gortex; just covers my hips. Powder skirt but, again, I wish it detached because I don't like to carry the extra material weight backpacking in summer.

I have an Arc'teryx Sirius. It's an awesome jacket, but I don't think it will hold up to regular wearing as well as a Beta, and it certainly won't be as comfortable to use, day in, day out as a Beta/Sidewinder. It's a very, very minimal, lighweight piece - nice as raingear/shellgear on a backcountry trip - not the best for lift serve. If your looking at the Sirius it's on sale for cheap at REI-outlet.com

It's a red, but muted. Not as bright as the North Face red. Looks nice.

I just got my Salomon jacket and I have to say it's fucking bomber as well. Since Salomon owns Arc'teryx their stuff is very similar. Clean style and bomber construction with high quality gore-tex and waterproof zippers.

I'm lovin my North Face Guide Jacket. Especially since it only cost me 140 bux. Me+Gore Tex=happy. I'm such a north face whore now, despite hating them earlier in my life (all the stupid fackin' rich kids had it).

Uh. And since Rossi owns Dynastar their skis are very similar? I don't think so. (Waterproof zippers are a nice touch... And your kacket may be totally bomber... But it may not be because Salomon owns Arc'teryx)
