Chic chocs are sweet and all...but they are 8 hours from Montreal, the really good shots are a hell of a skin in(patrollers wall) and its cold as balls. Plus, we'd need a quebec guide to translate, that aint no montreal french they speak out there.

awesome place though, I had a blast out there is past spring.

Somewhere in vermont. Higher mountains, better snow. I'de say Jay or Stowe.

Last time I checked places like wildcat, saddleback, sugarloaf all had higher elevations than places like sugarbush, smuggs, jay and stowe(where the lift drops you off at least).

In that case, we should have our summit in maine or nh, or at Lake Placid.

And saddleback is only about another 20/30 minutes further than sugarloaf, so from boston about 4.5 hours. Compared to ~4 hours to get to stowe, and about the same to get to Jay, driving like a normal person. If we had the summit at Smuggs, you'd have to drive around the notch, so factor that in.

How about we decide where the snow looks the best, and go from there. Its still fall anyway....

but i say stowe, because it wont cost me anything.

This would be my pick for a mini-mini. They need alot of snow to even make it worth a trip but with that said when it's good - it's great at Magic. It rivals any eastern mtns. No crowds, nice trees and steeps.

my 2 cents

Smuggs for the EC summit - ride the mother.

You still in NYC? You should spontaneously come up and ski again. That day at Huntah was pretty good for Huntah and I think I still owe you a beer.

how about we just give up and all meet up and ski spontaneously as some of us are apt to do? or, even better - wait until it starts snowing and see where its firing and then decide?

IMHO this is a bad idea. The sole reason last year's mini at Stowe was so good was because we decided to go with a specifc place. People were able to arrange work/vacation time, get lodging and we were able to get deals from Stowe and we had the most ever for an EC mini.

If we just randomly decide the week befoer the mini where we are going to go, it is almost assured that it will be a very small gathering.

Now we don't have to decide today, but we should get some shit done in the near future and quite talking about it.

09-28-2005, 10:06 AM
Well, since there have been mini's at Jay, MRG and Stowe. I dont know if the the Pole and Skiing mix......i mean obviously naked chicks, lap dances and skiing mix but, i was thinking some of the talent in an area home to a mountain might be a little scarey. That said there is a strip bar down the block from my house, which is a few miles from a ski hill with about 400 Feet of Vert, after going to both places you may never return to either.

P-kill rocks when they are having a good winter. We should set up a X-mas mini maybe. My parent live about 8 miles from there and it was my home mtn growing up as a kid.

I'd be down for that... Hopefully I'll be able to hit one or two of their snowdays or whatever they call it when they open midweek this year.

For the record, I'm going to call everytime I go skiing a summit and I'm going to post a detailed write up in the form of a non-photo TR. It's going to be a sick, sick winter.

I skipped pages 2-5 of this thread. Can someone give me the headlines?

For the record, Stowe (with Smuggs and Bolton Valley as side trips) - that's if I can find the time and the cash to do it.

I'm not sure what the word "grabastic" means but it sounds bad.

But lets just freaking pick a spot already. Stowe and Jay are in the lead so lets just make the call and move on. I'm sure we could get a similar deal from Stowe. Not sure about Jay, in the past I don't think they were too willing to cut us much of a deal.

Jay will give you a discount rate if you are a pass holder from another NE area or if you have a student id. Student prices are good, not sure how much the pass holder discount is though.

The Director of Marketing at Jay is a pretty cool dude, Last year my bro asked him to hook the guys up at K-zone with some discount tickets for our black out dates During the Christmas week. He came on and posted a pretty sweet deal, 37 bucks if we Brought our K-Mart Pass with us. If the summit is at Jay, i could probably solicit him for some cheap tickets.

Vinman
11-18-2005, 08:50 AM
right I forgot about the discount for pass holders from other area. 37 is close to what we paid at Stowe last year. And with that discount I doubt that we'd even have to solicit anything. just show up with your pass from another mtn and get 1/2 price...

I think that's the standard deal for anyone with another pass, check my post above...

Yeah i heard that too form others, i was just doing a search for his user name, and he came on and posted a few deals out of the blue for Members of the Kzone, 40 Tickets if you were a "Member" for a particular weekend, so somthing like that could help out the folks who don't have passes. The dude used to work at K-Mart and was the moderator for the K-Mart message board before they shut it down, so i think he has some love the people over there.

If Jay is the place to be Ill give it a shot, if not I have never been to Stowe so that would be fresh too.

I wanted to suggest a date, but I don't see any dates that definitely work for me.

Here are some important dates for those that want to pick one:

Jan 14 - 16 MLK weekend
Feb 5 Super Bowl
Feb 11-12 Utah Mini
Feb 18-20 President's Day Weekend / school vacations
Feb 25-26 School Vacations?
Mar 3 - 13 Summit

Yeah, the pucker factor is pretty big, for the sole reason that some of the people there speak french... also Gin and Mit are from there; another reason to be scared.

I'm in for Jay. We should look into renting one (or more) of the trailside houses there. Most of them sleep 15+ and have full kitchens. I say get in touch with them and see what they can do for tix. I'm covered, the whole family has passes this year. Somehow I just don't seem to have the same quality days at Stowe as at Jay. We should also look into ticket prices for one day at Burke.

edit: It looks like I'll be at Jay on March fifth and staying for a few days. Who's meeting me?

jumped in a little late, however I'm in for Jay in march. I'm also down for getting a house, 15+ sleeper. Also I'll do the stickers again, however I think we should paypal one person before the order. I'm not sure schuss recovered from last year, even if he has a sticker for every day since then.

Well, I've got my room booked from March 5th-8th. Staying at the Jay Village Inn, rates are really good and the lift tix come out to $35/day (less if you have a pass at another mtn). Check them out at www.stayatjay.com FWIW, the Hotel Jay is booked up already and the condos and ski in/out houses that are left are kinda pricey. I'm gonna try to be there to ski Sunday too, it's just a long drive after working in NYC all day on Saturday but...
