Anybody tried the new Scotts yet? In the past they were only available in Yurp, but now they are being distributed here. Just wondered if anyone has any feedback on them. Specifically the Santiago Pure..... ummmm a 193 with 101 under foot and NO TWIN :D

So lemme see...you have IM103's which are...193cm and 103 underfoot. And you want these new Scott's why?! ;) Oh right cuz they're new and shiny :D

Skied last years and they were real sweet - pressed by Fischer then, not sure about this year - so they had a great edge hold and you could really push them, although they didn't totally kick you in the ass if you went back seat and skidded them either. Not that you'd want to though....
Slightly changed the Santiago line for this season now too, so someone else may have better input.....
Actaully, paging Verbier61, sure he mentioned picking some Scotts up to complement the Bros....

pure are sweeeeeet to see and flex, but I don't have skied them enough to tell something interesting. Here in north-west yurp scott aztecs (something around 80 in the middle) are very popular and as spreaded as rossi B2 as do-it-all resort skis. I found a decent pair of aztecs in the garbage of a verb ski rental (just a broke edge that was quicly repaired for a few swiss francs) and use them as rock skis

I skied some of the pre-fischer pressed scotts 3 seasons ago & was real impressed until I had a few days on them & then they got wimpy/soft. The flex broke in very quickly, then broke down. My take was that these would be better suited to a less aggressive, mellow skier & thats who I sold them to!

To answer Particles question..... Yes only cuz they are new and shiny. Actually looking for something with the same type of dimensions as the 103s but without as much "asskickedness" in the layup of the ski

How are those skis the same? One has a small twin and one has a swallowtail. Not saying they cant be close to the same, but if they are the same then "We are awake, but we are very confused"

Down in Lenas I kept seeing a pair of Scott's around the base area with a furry, kinda suede black topsheet with a small swallowtail. Then one day, I rode the Marte chair with the owner of the skis...some Swiss Scott pro rider named "Phil" but didn't catch his last name. He said that his skis were 101 in the waist and 193 so I'm assuming that these are the Santiago Pures maybe?. It looked like the furry topsheet stuff was fraying at the edges revealing a yellow topsheet underneath...I didn't ask about this though. He said they're only making about 200 pair.
Phil was super cool and said that this ski was basically his pro model. He said he took the shorter 188 Santiago Pure, widened it a bit (duh), lengthened it to 193 (duh), and made the tail of the 193 dramatically stiffer than the 188, and the shovel just slightly stiffer.
Wish I could have caught this dudes last name....he also had a Red Bull helmet so I assume he's on their team and he mentioned that he was with Salomon for a few years before Scott. If the way he was skiing was any indication of the Pure's performance then they're probably pretty kick ass......never saw a dude ski big, variable conditions faces so fast and so smooth...everyone who saw him ski was just blown away.
Didn't get a chance to flex the skis or anything so that this beta with a grain of salt.
EDIT:
Just checked out Scott's team page, and "Phil" was Philippe Meier. The page lists his ski as the Santiago Pure Limited.

That ski sounds just like what they say is just the 193 Santiago Pure. Even in the Pow buyers guide it says the 193 is the same dimensions as the 188 except widened to 101 in the waist. Have no clue about the suede topsheet though

Back to the issue of Scotts being Fischers. Looking at the Watea, the tail looks similiar to the tail of the Santiago Pures, but has a much shorter swallow tail. As I understand it thought, and according to their respective websites), Santiago Pure comes in a 193 and is 132-101-118 in that length and the Watea is a 192 and 134-101-124. Big difference in those two skis (well big difference except in length :D )

Phil's skis had a special plaque riveted to them and I could swear it read
135-101-118 (or 119) The rest was just as Shoe described.

Anyone know what these Scott swallow tails are? They almost look like they have a carbon weave on the top sheet, but maybe its just the pure with a different top sheet.

Those look exactly like the fuzzball skis Meier was on that I described above.
EDIT: Yeah I'm certain that's them...the Santiago Pure Limited. You can even make that out on the brochure sitting below them.

Thread revival!
I just picked up a pair of Santiago Pure's @ the swap in Park City on fri for $225 in the plastic! I heard there were like a dozen pairs there. They look like the mass market SP, white and army green. They're 193's and they say 135-95-119 on 'em but lo and behold, they measure 101 at the waist:yourock: ! They're real stiff and they say "made in austria" on 'em. Sandwich construction with a mini-cap on top a-la the old Dualtec. They seem real beefy and I think they'll kick ass.
Stoked!
Incedently, I may or may not have access to more of these for a similar price from a different source. If anyon'e interested, PM me for details.

I've been riding the 05/06 Pure (green & white graphics) for a while - nice ski, flex is stiff enough for the hardpack/crud and they're OK in powder. (Mounted on the line w/ s916)
Bases seem a little vulnerable, though.
Sorry I don't know anything about the new ones.

I knew he was close, but until I read his bio, I hadn't realized that he lives just up the road from me. Like a 10 minute walk.
Who wants to touch me?
If that's not enough, I think I saw Sverre Lilliquist (sp?) in GVA in January.

Scott Santiago Pure = Fischer Watea.
they just got the same dimensions (even if they say they are different, they are the same), but the wateas tails are turned up more, thats why they are "shorter". the scotts are way stiffer and ski quite different imho, i liked the wateas more overall, but the scotts were better at skiing fast...

I've been out on my SP's about twenty days now, mounted on the line with 912's.
Me: 5'7", 140 lbs, aggressive skier, pretty fast.
They are definately stiffer than the watea. They feel real damp and love speed. I wouldn't say they're the stiffest skis out there but they're definately in the medium stiff to stiff range. They carve pretty well but really shine in the crud and mank while being wide enough in the shovel to float well in the deep. Short turns are no problem either.
This is my go to ski for any conditions, though I do try to avoid stuff like coral and hard bumps. The bases do seem a little weak but construction seems solid. I took a big core shot on the edge right underfoot. It was enough to really gouge the edge from the inside. This resulted in no edge displacement or sidewall compression.
Overall, great, versatile ski. Highly recommended.

Shortly after I wrote that review I noticed one of my SPs is bent about halfway between tip and toepice. Still skis OK but a little squirrely on the hard pack. I still think the sksi rock, especially for the price.
I will now attempt to get warranty replacement from Scott, wish me luck.
