Ok so for those of us who are camping, this is the thread to state your spot and hook up with others. Lego and I are camping, and we'll be arriving on Friday early evening-ish.

Also, this can be the backcountry thread for the mini, too, I guess. I'd like to do a bc day trip on Sunday. So would Schralper and Telenater, I believe. So, I guess we'll all meet at the party on 4/30 to decide where to meet for some bc action? Yay!!

I'm in for some BC action, but I have a plane to catch from Reno at 8pm on Sunday- so it'd need to be Fri/Sat for me- unless it's not too involved for Sunday.

Last weekend, Rock Chute looked real nice. However, I'm up for any BC outing. Although June Mtn is closed for the season, A little voice in my head is saying, "Go to the Negatives"

Unless temps are a lot lower than they have been recently, we're probably not going to want to be out too late in the day anyways. If we're not off the hill by 3pm I'd be very surprised.

Nate: you stil staying a day or two after to tour? Now that I have actual Fritschis I may be up for that.

That is an affirmative. I'll be bc skiing on Monday, Tuesday, and possibly a quick dawn patrol on Wed. Any chance you're interested in carpooling up on Friday and then staying through a return on Wednesday?

Camp where?
Convict Lake parking lot?
Near the green church? closer to the hot springs! Might be nice.
I'll be there Thur. eve.
I've got an Big blue Suburban, should be easy to spot.

Don't forget crampons! It'll be firm in the am.

Last time I skied the Sherwins (years ago), no bc gear was needed which is good because I have none. If you guys are going to hit up the Sherwins, I might want to tag along.

The Sherwins sound good. Can we do laps on that stuff then?
I'll bring crampons...but if no bc gear is needed, then nevermind...?

Unless there is still floor space somewhere, camping at the Convict Lake parking lot by the church is a good plan. Lego and I may get a hotel on Sat. night so we'd only be camping Friday night I believe.

So, what else besides the Sherwins? And what are the Negatives?

Squirell99, we'll have you at your car by 3pm at the latest, so you'll make your flight no prob! :)

Could happen if I don't go to Moab afterwards. Still trying to figure out if I can swing that. But I'm in for Monday/Tuesday.

Direct press release from the Inyo National Forest dated April 22, 2005:

"Fishing Opener - What's Open on the Inyo National Forest

Campground update:

Lundy Canyon - everything is closed (attempting to open by 5/3)
Lee Vining - everything is closed
June Lake Loop - Forest Service campgrounds at Gull Lake (11 sites) and Aerie Crag (10 sites) will be open, everything else is closed.
Crestview Area - everything is closed
Mammoth Lakes - all Forest Service campgrounds are closed
Convict Lake campground - closed due to snow (lake ice free)
Rock Creek Canyon - Tuft Campground is open, all other are closed
Bishop Creek - attempting to have some campgrounds open by 4/29
Big Pine Canyon - all campgrounds are closed
Oak Creek, Lower and Upper Grays Meadow, and Lone Pine Campgrounds will all be open"

The only lakes completely ice free are Convict and Crowley. The road to the Mammoth Lakes Basin is still closed due to snow and ice fishing is not recommended by the Mono County Sheriff's Dept.

June Lake Loop is open. June Lake: 35%-40% ice free, Gull Lake: Almost completely ice free, Silver Lake: Openings on either end of lake, still lots of ice, Grant Lake: Still frozen, rotting ice.

I spoke with the forest service today, and it sounds like Convict Lake Campground is open - unfortunately, (and fortunately), I'll be coming up for the fishing opener and not the mini - made the plans too far in advance to cancel. Waaaah!

bump in case anyone is checking in from Mammoth. I guess we'll figure out where to meet on Saturday night...to finalize plans for Sunday morning! See you all there...
