In recent talks of the drought in the PNW and chances of good snow at Hood on July 4th, there is worry. I batted it around with a few others the possibility of doing a summer summit in all places........Summit county. Arapahoe basin tries to stay open till July 4th, but the snow is usually pretty bad by then. If we did it around mid-June, snow is still available top to bottom. There are many 14er's to tour on locally as well. Plenty of maggots live within 90 minutes and there are plenty of camping area less than 15 minutes away (montezuma?) Not only skiing, but also biking can be done, oh, dual sport summer mini?
discuss.

L8APX and I were kicking around the idea of having some kind of EC summer BBQ/biking/trimming outing somewhere in the Capital District. dunno if that interests anyone else

Laser, I'm hoping to organize a Mtn bike summit July 9-10 at my parent's house in the catskills. Plenty of property yo camp on, and about a 1/2 hour drive from Plattekill. less than 90 minutes from Albany, 3-3.5 hours from NYC.

I'm down for it wherever, I don't have a location to offer, since my rent's wouldn't be too happy with me having a bunch of internet friends to our house. If we're doing something in the Capital District in the summer my only request would be not to have be on the first weekend of any month, cuz I wouldn't be able to make it then. I like the plan though.

There was a mention of Shasta-Lassen as it will still be deep there. No lifts, but Lassen has decent car shuttle opportunities.

There's a decent sized group of us who are planning to hit Brian Head for July 4th. Just biking though...

...and about a 1/2 hour drive from Plattekill.
I hope you have a big bike and like riding on loose shale. Plattekill is fun.

I almost started a thread about this earlier in the week. I've been at the Hood summer summit the last three years. I'll be really bummed if it doesn't go down this year.
I'm still holding out hope for more snow in the PNW. Please Ulllr, give the folks up in the Northwest a fantastic spring and us others the chance to go to Hood in July. Pretty please?

Hey BobMc, we appreciate the Utah blessing. The patterns are lining up right now pretty good for the next 2 weeks- we're all just holding our breath up here for a strong late season...we'll see....
We're still on track for big changes this weekend. Actually, these next few days might be the last we see of full-sunny days for a while.
The weekend can be summed up in three words: Wet and breezy. We'll see drenching rains through the day mixing with winds to 25-35 mph. And what definitely does *not* qualify as any kind of instant replay we've seen around here all winter, the long-range pattern is still sticking to a cool and wet pattern for all of next week, with moderate-sized storms blowing through every 24-36 hours, with periods of steady rain, followed by showers, then rain again. (OK, so that does sound like replay.)
Better yet, the snow levels should stay below 4,000 feet the whole week, meaning the mountains should be doing a great job in at least replenishing some of their missing snowpack. I know some of the ski resorts have given up for the season, but maybe this can change their mind? The only thing feeling a bit slower then would be the traffic making a bee-line for the mountains :)
