Heya~ Looking for info about or folks in Central Idaho. We (me and my furry traveling partner, Hudson) are kickin' it Salmon, ID currently with plans to head down towards Stanley and McCall in the coming week or two...... We are contemplating a move to the area, so just want to check it out...... It would be great to meet some folks and get the scoop.~

I'm answering here 'cause I assume this is whitewater related. Central Idado kicks ass other than a barely functional economy. Salmon and McCall are really is different parts of the state. McCall is on Payette lake and has the largest tourist economy in the area. Brundage Mtn is close by. I have friends here that really love the area. Ski resort, hotel/resturant jobs and construction are the biggest industries. It is a popular weekend destination from Boise. Once you go over the pass into Riggins, things get a little different. The elevation is lower and the pricip is less, quite desert like. I've never been here is the winter but the summer is all about whitewater. I think they even declare themselves "whitewater capital USA". If you kayak, Central Idaho is wear it is at. The Payette run about 9months out of the year and the Slamon has in playspots all year. All the major permited rivers are within a days drive. There is so much wilderness it is rediculous. Go look up Yellowpine, ID on a map. Go there run the EFSF Salmon and play a round of Idaho style mini golf. You won't forget it.

I will be in Riggins tomorrow and sunday most likely. I will either be at Peace wave or Cats Paw depending on what they look like. Both are a few miles up the Big Salmon road from Riggins. I drive an old red suburban, say hi if you make it that far. I have spring break all next week so I will boatin/biking most of the week, too.
Riggins is a pretty fun place to guide. There is something surfable almost all season. Central to a lot of other runs, too.
