I know it's a bit early...but these 60 degree temps in WA have me thinking ahead to better climates...
No that is not a jackhammer you hear in the background, it's the radiant vibe of club UFO. With the South American soul pounding delicate oonces through your head while you wash down that Vodka con speed and some fernet, take a moment and consider el tres lugares por un Mini de America del Sur.
As we have not really had much of a season in the PNW, we'll take up hosting duties for this vino tinto con lomo con nieve polvo gathering...
I'd post some more pics, but if you're reading this far, you already know what kind of goods can be had in SA :D
Dude le en Termas
Squirrel, Girlski, BC-Flow, Basom & Co. en Lenas (with Powstash???)
Arturus Fufkin con Cornholio, Yossarian and others en Bariloche
I would be more than happy to coordinate said mini for Las Lenas, say around Late August/Early September.
The floor is now open for discussion...

shite...I don't know where the hell I'm going yet. Prolly wherever Arty & lph are going as we've discussed trying to co-ordinate everything and traveling down there together. Las Lenas / Bariloche / or both....possibly leanin towards Bariloche....

Dont know exactly where and dont know with who, I dont have anyone to go with as of now, I have kind of been thinking I might go down and fend on my own and make friends I guess... I would be down to get some sort of crew together or something. I am new at the whole south america thing...

I went solo the first trip I when I was Utarded in 2001. Very easy to meet people down there- look for the packs and helmets in the lineups. chances are good you'll be able to spot a gringo miles away.
If you are in Lenas July/August, there will likely be a small group I know from Whistler & Jackson in town. you'll spot them easily in the marte line up (or just try the Wine bar or UFO at apres).
And Tyrone, you need to go to both Lenas and Bariloche!

I think I might only have 10 days of vaca time to spend though.....I guess if I piggy that up with the Labor Day holiday however, that would help out a little. Is that enough time for both do you think? Shit it's never enough time of course, but you know what I mean....god damn I 'm so stoked for this.

That's what I've done the past few trips to SA.
I'm tentatively thinking of leaving Thursday 8/25 and returning on Sunday 9/11. Labor Day falls in between so I end up burning only 10 vacation days, but I still get about 15 ski days out of it (overlapping both weekends).
It's tough to do both Bariloche and Lenas in 2 weeks, but I might try it this year. But like Yoss said above, once you find one you like, it kind of grows on ya.

I haven't gotten as far as any kind of planning, but we've been the last couple years in the same time frame. If I go, it'd likely be then too. Last week of Aug, first of Sept. If it's a bad year, it can be really bad there when you first arrive, but usually you manage to snag a good storm somewhere in that two week stretch and get 3-4 pow days out of it, and then if you're lucky, you can tour for a couple more at best before it gets totally cooked again. But definitely be prepared to hang around a lot for relatively little epic skiing. That being said, I love it, love the pace, the people, all of it. At this point I just like being there, hitting a huge dump is just a bonus.
The other strategy is to go during the actual winter, much sooner, but I've never tried that. :)

Stay tuned.
The first year I went there I met a few Alta chicas and they described skiing the Andes Powder as "Orgasmic" (not that it happens often, of course, with much less snowfall than NA).
But still, nonetheless, Alta chicks saying Pow was 'orgasmic' and not speaking about Alta in the same sentence spoke volumes about that day!
Does this mean that you're bringing X so he could still send in some "Alta pics of the day" photos from SA?

sorry i started an other one...i should read topics before posting...i have to agree with with all the points that were made up there. Las Lenas is sick its the biggest thing out there but its so tricky with the el marte chair. you can be sitting and drinking for quite a bit, i feel its important that you time your trip..
i have never been to bariloche and i am seriously thinking about spending time out there. i would love to see the advantages and disadavantages like i am about to do with termas...
I know termas very well i had great guides and the mountain has serious potential. the best comparaison to the mountain is baker, a little less steep a hole lot less of trees. i don't know if anyone that has skied it will agree. the other advantage of termas is on weekdays, well the car count in the parking rarely get over 10, the place is up to you. you know who lays witch track where...for a summit thats pretty cool...They are laying in an other chair this summer, that can be a plus too. The back country is quite accessible too its easy to plan tours and there is plenty of it. i have been dreaming of giant igloo multi-day sessions, its things that are super do-able down there....an other advantage of termas is the themals. hot water volcanic pools, some of them are poachable pretty easily.
its also pretty central its a day trip to bariloche in train and or first class bus rides. its also 6 hours from santiago, a day more or less, same deal with the winter cold surf...
the disadvantages of termas is that you are in the middle of the countryside. its quiet. weekdays the bars are often closed. the town of las trancas is a road with little dirt roads on the sides that lead into the native forest and bamboos, its quite a good way to disconnect from north american resort life. you have to be able to cope with that.
its also lower altitude, so the snow is sometimes heavier and it rains for quite a bit of time in periods.
the terrain also has its limits to get the more challenging runs you have to work them a little bit harder or more demanding. for sure that you have excellent lines up and around the resort, but the obvious terrain is not that steep and wide open..
et voila. like cletus says. once you find a resort that you like it sorst of grows on you...
edit : because of the investement of the plane ticket it doesn't make it that hard to stay there for longer at not much cost...

I'm definitely torn on this one-
Lenas is a definite for at least 8 days of my time this year- however, I would like to get to Termas or Bariloche to check out some other locales.
Marte chair can be tempermental if the winds pick up or heavy snow ensues for weeks at a time (like 2002). So that's a down side to Lenas. But it's also the biggest of the bunch and has the highest elevation on the plus side.
As another thought- I know of a touring hut that's about 2 hours from Las Lenas. If people wanted to really do the remote touring, I could look into renting it out for a week.

You know, the loud sounds South American techno booms into your head at every restaurant and night club in town...like this- boom.boom.boom.boom.dadadadada..dadada.dadada.dada .dada. ooonce, ouuunce, ouunnnnceee - boom boom boom boom.
and then you head hurts while it still throws down techno beats and the popular English tune from Daft Funk- "One More Time"... that they play every night, in every bar.

That beat is calling me this summer!
Fineline: where you planning on going to school? I went to La Catolica de Valparaiso and it kicked ass.
My 2 cents: Valle Nevado/Farellones is a great place too. Excellent terrain, short hikes, high altitude, sooo accessible from Santi aeropuerto, but can be un poco mas caro as compared to the South or LL. I was living in VN for about a month in 2003 and definitely have a soft spot in my heart for the people there. As for the scene, all the Brazilian tourists tend to balance out the chica situation vs. Argentina. Brazilians can be very friendly :fmicon:

Initial plans for summer 2005:Las Lenas
Arrive to Buenos aires 20th of july.
Bus to Los Molles, search and find the hotell/hostell there.21st.
Start to ski in LL, 22nd.
Take a flight back to Buenos aires from mendoza 9th.
Leave back to Yurup 10-11th.
Lodgings are a bit open atm, but staying in LosMolles seems to be the best way...cheap,2prs room (since im alone), bus or the hotels bus to the slopes.
Goddammit that sounds good!
Btw, does anyone have any snowrecords from the past years in las lenas?
If i understood it right, the winter/percipation cyckle differs quite a lot from the northern hemisphere?
I'm praying for snow this summer ! Yeah El Nino serve it up por favor !
Glad to see there is still south american stoke after last years rocks and bones.
Me plan if I don't injure myself, is to be in southern patagucci for a little stint in June and July then make my way north following the snow !
I hope to bump into some of ya there. T'was fun to meet Cletus, Odin and Cornholio for that total ten minutes !
AS for summit Locations. Las Lenas is sick and lots of potential. I gotta get back up there for a bit this summer.

Unless you've actually seen Los Molles and know what you'd be letting yourself in for I'd strongly caution against this plan. There is an active market in cheap beds and room shares amongst US/Euro travellers in LL itself. Riding a bus up and down the highway to Los Molles everyday would suck pole and mean missing out on much of the LL atmosphere.
When everyone has their schedules nailed down how about booking a maggot condo from Brice at http://www.laslenasski.com/ ?

Nope, never been there...:)
I ended up with los molles because :
a) cheap
b) can get 2person rooms for reasonable price. i have had my share of sleeping in dormitoriums/multiperson rooms allready, dont miss the circus that much...
c)im not that much of a disco guy..i enjoy a pint (or four) but hangin in clubs and looking steeze has never been much of my cake.
But yes, if people have some kind of apartemento type accomodation in LL id be extremely intrested, love that type of lodging, unless i have to sleep under the kitchen table for a week (done that, sucks, jelly and the pieces of bread fall into the sleepingbag..)

I'm not exactly sure about your timeframe, but by mid to late August there are a ton of gringos with appartments. If you're traveling solo you can definitely find a bed (even with 2 it is easy). Fairly cheap split 6 ways, you're close to the cafetorium (10 peso dinner and you get to meet all the other bro/bras), for TV they show old TGR movies on one channel and Argentine models on the other, and you get your own kitchen. Plus, instead of having to take that crap bus from Los Molles every day, they might actually let you drive the little Mercedes bus around LL!
c)im not that much of a disco guy, BUT you must enjoy a pint of wine (or four) and hangin in clubs with ridirkulous Argentinas and looking dritbag-steeze. thats everyone's cake

The place is really basic - two or three shitty little farm buildings in the middle of nowhere. Plus if it snows I think your chances of getting stuck down there are high.
You'll need to be in the resort to take in the full experience - the wine bar should be an obligatory stop every evening and at least one meal at the Parilla (sp?)
I don't know how the exchange rate is doing at the moment but once you're down there everything is super cheap compared to anywhere in the states or europe. Consider taking ski gear that you're prepared to sell at the end of your trip, we had several people offer outrageous cash for our stuff.

Uurmm... Now you got me thinking..
Not about the farm thing, been stayin last 2-3 seasons in Italy in a village where we had cows nest(?) beneath our window, so that is no prob..
Even liked it.
I just love the smell of burnign cowdung in the morning.
But the being stuck thing aint no option..
Soo...
Tried to find some info on the same levell of accomodation in the village but only came up with the two hotels. Any pointters?
If any maggots plan to rent some apartemento, ill could be lining up for that.
Quite tidy, knows something about cooking (at least porridge), rarelly vomits all around the place, doesnt snore and hates washing dishes.
Any takers?

I have a pseudo-plan to spend three months in South America this summer after I graduate. My idea is to work and ski in Santiago from mid-June to mid-August, then spend a month in Las Lenas until mid-September. I don't know much about Bariloche, but maybe I'll split up the Las Lenas time with some time there. Good stories about Bariloche, anyone?
As far as places to stay in Las Lenas, I've talked with Mark Lasseter from laslenasski.com (http://laslenasski.com) about a condo setup, but I'm thinking about just showing up and finding a place. Sounds like flying solo is no problem.

Sure. I'll probably need to work at a hostel or teach English to subsist while I'm down there. Argentina doesn't hire foreigners due to the high unemployment rate, so Santiago sounds like a good spot. Maybe not the best skiing, but what can you do? Besides, I want to work on my Spanish, get to know the culture and all that good stuff.

If you don't speak spanish, try and find a good travel agent. I've found that getting my own transport to JFK or Miami can save $400-500 off what you listed above (tax included). Just keep your eyes open for specials: United, American, Lan(Chile), Copa (Panama), all offer specials for the summer/winter months of peak ski season. Varig (from Brasil) has also had some good rates on their site.
Mach: Santi is not the greatest South American city, but you can have a really good time. One thing to keep in mind tho, is that it is a bitch of a road from the city up to skiing. Only about 1-1.5 hours, but not passable in snowy conditions. Also, Las Condes is the area closest to the mountains (and nicest in town), but can get super-caro. If you have any questions about Chile, feel free to drop me a PM.
I'm getting pumped! Dudele: keep me in the loop for any secret hut/horse renting touring plans

Also don't forget Delta. They just added Buenos Aires as a route city this past year. Since it's a relatively new route for them, they might be more willing to keep the rates low.
I would also suggest using frequent flier miles for a trip like this if you have them. The advantage is you can book last minute if weather looks sketchy and not pay through the nose. I booked three days before I took off last year and it cost me $85 and 50,000 miles. I also got a $150 voucher from Delta since we where 4 hours late out of Atlanta so I actually made money flying Delta. :D
By the way does anyone know if there is still a $100 surcharge for all Americans flying into Santiago.

By the way does anyone know if there is still a $100 surcharge for all Americans flying into Santiago.
It's a $100 fee payable in cash for US Citizens upon arrival in Chile. This is a reciprocal charge. I'm pretty sure it is $75CDN for Canadian Citizens.
On the plus side, these 'tourist cards' are valid for return visits until the expiration date of your passport.
Anyone changing planes in Santiago "en transito" does not have to pay the tourist card. **But Argentina has a departure tax of approximately $30.00 USD that is payable in either USD or AR pesos- I believe this applies to all travelers, regardless of citizenship.
I'll be on Delta again this year (FF mileage, baby!). Arriving in Santiago likely.

I'm shooting for 8/25 (Thursday) flight from ATL to SCL. I'm going to take the first flight out of Seattle (or maybe the red-eye the night prior) to hang out in ATL for the day with some friends before catching the long 9.5-10 hr. flight to Chile.
Instead of drinking (which seems to be the usual norm with those Southern Belles :FIREdevil ), thinking about hitting up some Six Flags action for a few hours to pass the time.

Based on some very preliminary responses, I'm going out on a limb and proposing the following week for a South America Summit:
Aug 27 - Sept 3, 2005 @ Las Lenas
*week after reserved for Bariloche or Termas touring*
I usually stay in LL for about 20 days, but this year, thinking about going for 8 to 10 days, then checking out some new terrain in either Chile or Bariloche region (or perhaps getting that 'secret' hut for a few touring days about 2-3 hours from LL).
I'll hopefully be on the Delta flight to Santiago Thursday 8/25. Likely connecting onto the LanExpress 9am flight to Mendoza (if not, hopping the bus). Would be cool to have a 'maggot' flight!
Okay, it's almost April... discuss :)

I would definitely be interested in linking up with some mags near end of July. The warm days would be fun. I could ski in a man-blouse and smoove chicas on the lift. Mmmmm. Damn.
Rusty, do you have any connections in the LL itself for lodging?
Tried to find out the prices for Los Molles, but they replied back that they
have not yet lauched next winters prices..
But this thingy that i found, has anyone any experiences of it?

And some other place:
http://www.intertournet.com.ar/esqui/las_lenas_dptos.htm
And some third place:
http://www.snownet.com.ar/ingles/UntitledFrame-6.html
How does theese prices compeare to the prices you have paid before?
Just to get some kind of overview in the pricerange.
I guess there will begin to be double tariffs (locals vs. gringos) as the economic slide seems to continue down there..
And about the usuall snowfall statistics.
I have found somehting ,like this, http://www.cosis.net/members/onlib/request.php?file=EGS/NHS/2002/3/nhs-2-221.pdf
but searching to find out what the usuall snowfall cyckle is in the SA since it seems to differ from the northern hemisphere quite a lot?
Does anyone have any links or where to find some readings?
And oh, Fieldguides seems to have this kind of guides in the repertuaire...

Not as much as Delta´s service sucks. Fíng 30 year old airplane. Can´t figure out who has what seat. Every leg late.
An Aerolineas flight to Mendoza should be the same price as Lan(as long as you don´t pay the etranjero price), so why not layover in BUE where you can get all you can eat Lomo for AR$17?
EZE airport tax is AR$57 or something like that.

Is it true that the goverment has passed the law that foreigners cannot travel on the economy class at all on internal flights?
They have to buy instead First or Businessclass ticets.

I believe that´s the law, but it doesn´t seem well inforced. And it only seems to be for Aerolineas Argentinas tickets. If you purchase your ticket in the States/Europe (internet or travel agent) you definitely have to pay that price, if you purchase in Argentina via a travel agent or direct from Aerolineas you probably (I´ve heard of very few exceptions) don´t. As an example I purchased a same day ticket on Aerolineas at the airport with my illiterate Spanglish, and a US passport, to Rio Gallegos for AR$300, after my southern winds flight was cancelled. My advance reservation was AR$297. All of my tickets bought in Argentina have been simlilarly cheap, and far different than the absurd fares quoted by the Aerolineas website.
There are other Argentine airlines (destinations are from Aeroparque, the Buenos Aires domestic airport, a $20 or less transfer from EZE, including massive bags):
American Falcon http://www.americanfalcon.com.ar/home.asp flies to Bariloche
Southern Wings http://www.fly-sw.com flies to Mendoza and Bariloche, but I wouldn´t pay for your ticket in advance (the scandal being 60kg of Coc in an unsuitcase in Madrid, turns out the President of the airline was complicit  )
LADE http://www.lade.com.ar/ flies to Usushaia and other Patagonia destinations. They fly Argentina Airforce equipment, it´s an interesting experience.
All of the above are reasonable, safe airlines, you can even earn American Airlines miles on Southern Winds.

Southern Winds sucks ass. I've never been on an older airplane. I think it was an original model 737...with duct tape on the tail fin. 20 years ago I flew on newer airplanes.
Best of all we got to fly in that plane from Malargue to Mendoza right when the Santa Rosa was blowing in. I thought we were going to die.

No offense, cause I love Argentina, but 3/4 of the flights I've had in that country would be considered amusement park thrill level in the U.S. On the other hand, two buses crashed head on killing 20+ on the route from BA to Mendoza when I was there, so I'm not sure how much better that option is (do they enforce the 5 hour limit for drivers w/o taking a break?)

The buses I´ve been on seem to obey the 5 hour limit, which is better than Chile. 1 driver, 13 hrs down the Carreterra Austral
I can´t say that any of my airline experiences have been thrill rides, LADE was the closest with the Boeing 707 and everything else.
You thought you were in the water at USH not because the aiports small, but because it´s built on an island in the middle of the Beagle channel. Awesome view of the mountains on the approach.

I can verify those seats are ummmm compact and the sprite also tasted weird.
EDIT: the plane seemed new to me(turbines), only part where I became a little worried was when I just woke up and because airport is so tiny(2 terminals: 1 for departures, other for arrivals) it appeared to me that we were landing into water.

No you don't understand. I don't mind small seats. I don't mind old upholstery. I really don't mind super hot stewardesses. :D But what I do mind is old planes that can't handle turbulence very well. When you're on approach, you're 200 feet off the ground, the plane is bouncing around worse than a 500 lb man's stomach on a diving board, and one second all you see is ground and the other second all you see is sky...you tend to be a little unhappy. It was complete barf-o-rama on the plane; and when I walked into the bathroom after we had miraculously landed, I noticed that someone had left skid marks on the seat...probably from shitting their pants. Yes, it was that bad. I'm not scared of flying; never have been. But I thought we were going to die on that plane.

Trying to incorporate some skiing into a multiple month South American trip. Hopefully I can be a part of the South American festivities. The Las Lenas apartments seem like a good dilly, aproximently $25 per night per bed. My lady friend and I will be arriving around Labor Day, a little late, but hopefully not too late.
Termas de Chillan sounds interesting, but appartently only to the Dude.
What is the likelihood of sucessfully shipping ski gear back to the State once I'm done skiing? Unlikely any South American hot dogs are going to want beat up tele gear.

Likelihood is pretty high. Cost is going to be outrageous. Estimates that I got for the DaKine double ski bag loaded up from Chile was about $250. As Splat has pointed out, locals really do appreciate gear donations and even our old stuff is newer than what a lot of folks ski on in SA.

Heading down to Santiago on 20 August for my fourth summer trip south of the equator (fifth including a trip to NZ).
Headed down at this time on my previous three visits and had excellent powder in Portillo (2002), Las Lenas and Termas (2003) and Chapelco (2004).
Going the car hire route this time (travelling with 3 mates) to get the goods.
Will be there until 11 September and hoping to hit some or all of the following:
Valle Nevado - never been
Portillo - been twice before and had pow and great corn
Penitentes - never been
Las Lenas - as good as everyone says, but average when the Marte is closed
Caviahue - deserted, great terrain, superb hiking
Batea Mahuida - never been
Chapelco - had a great time in San Martin and Chapelco last summer. Very underrated resort with some sweet tree skiing
Catederal - never been
La Hoya - never been
Antillanca - never been
Pucon - never been
Termas - had a brilliant time here in 2003. Stayed in Las Trancas where I enjoyed a great Independence Day at Oliver's. Then skied pow for the next 3 days
Can't wait

Not me. I was out there with two mates. All three of us from the UK (1 boarder, Rich, and 2 skiers, Paul and I).
First day we were there it was snowing and blowing a gale up top. Did well to stay on the t-bar at times!
Got back to Las Trancas early afternoon and it was raining, so we decided to have a late lunch and a couple of bottles of vino at Oliver's.
During the course of our meal the rain turned to big fat flakes, so we tied one on early outside under the canopy enjoying a great lamb roast and dancing.
Bed by 9 and up for first tracks the next morning. Bluebird, light, untracked and mid-thigh deep. Classic.
PS how do you post images? Can I upload from my hard drive or does it have to be via a web site?

i think i have posted this info before in a thread last year, but for those who don't bother to search :p , here it is again.... my lodging connection for las lenas is
Sebastian Luna
E-mail Address(es):
yayaluna@hotmail.com
he was introduced to me as yaya, not sure what that nickname means in spanish.. anyway, he got me a bed in an apartment in the buildings where a lot of the employees/ locals live for $12 a night. the bedrooms have 1 or 2 bunkbeds each, and there is a small kitchen/living room. you get a chance to make some new friends and the price could not be beat by any other place close to the lifts. i think i may have received a discounted rate cause yaya is a friend of a friend, and i don't know what yaya is charging this year (yaya rents an apartment or 2 or 3 each season, then rents out beds by the month/week/night), but regardless, if you want a cheap bed you should contact him.
and, if anyone is wanting to stay in mendoza and wants a local contact, the friend of mine that introduced me to yaya is fede de lucia..
deluja@impsat1.com .. fede is a decent skier and works/lives in mendoza. he gets to las lenas as often as he can get away from work (he's an architect). i got in contact with him via another skiing site, met him in person my first night in las lenas in 2002. and by happy circumstance he was having a party that night.. one hell of a good time and many new friends were had/made that night, and it set the tone for a wonderful vacation.

Las Lenas, Argentina (Ski Press)-For the past 3 years, Extremely Canadian clients have migrated south to Las Lenas, Argentina for their guided, all-inclusive World Tour ski trips, and without fail, Mother Nature has been very, very good to them.
Each year the fabled Santa Rosa storm rolls in as their plane hits the runway, blessing the resort with deep freshies on incredible terrain. Whether Extremely Canadian sold their soul to the devil or just knows how to find good skiing, the important thing is they’re returning again this year, and you’re invited.
As part of their 2005 World Tour, Extremely Canadian will return to this Mecca of the Andes in August/September, and by popular demand they will offer your choice for 3 epic trips: August 27 – Sep 3, Sep 3-10, and Sep 10-17, 2005.
Whether Mother Nature treats them or not, those who’ve been to Las Lenas know the incredibly vast terrain and enriching cultural adventure are an opportunity of a lifetime… until you get hooked and go again. “We just can’t get enough of the place” explained Joe Lammers, head guide for Extremely Canadian’s trip, adding “I’ve been lured back for 7 years now, and guiding these trips has been an incredible experience. I see a lot of stoked skiers come and go… then come again for more”.
Las Lenas, a cosy village in a snowy corner of Argentina, houses several hotels, diverse restaurants, bars, a casino, a shopping centre and a complete infrastructure to serve its multinational clientele. It claims more lift-serviced skiable terrain than any other ski area in the Western Hemisphere with endless chutes, steeps and couloirs that are surrounded by the magnificent scenery of the Argentine Andes.
The Extremely Canadian World Tour trips to Las Lenas includes:
Return domestic flight from Buenos Aires to Malargue
Return shuttle bus from Malargue to Las Lenas
Seven nights shared lodging at the four star Escorpio Hotel
Breakfast and dinner while at the Escorpio Hotel
Six days resort skiing, Extremely Canadian guiding and coaching
Eight day lift pass
Trip Prices/Dates:
Week 1 or 2: Aug 27 – Sep 3, 2005 or Sep 3-10, 2005. $3495 CAD
Week 3: Sep 10-17, 2005. $3295 CAD
Special rate available for multiple week trips.

All I know is LL is going to go off this year as there is a ton of snow there now and more on the way the next 3 days in the forecast, another 40 cms!
Check out the photo of the Escorpio hotel by the base.
I saw some q's about non 7 day stays and it can be easily done but not so easily or even at all in resort during high season periods like July 9-30. Los Molles is a great short term budget place and there is info on www.laslenasski.com in the apartment section.

Dear Andes Snow Enthusiast,
After several fall snowstorms, El Colorado opened on Friday, May 20.
For
opening weekend, the resort had the double treat of light powder and
bluebird skies. Termas de Chillan also opened for the season during the
weekend. Check out the weekend photos of El Colorado and Valle Nevado
(planning to open on June 10). Forecasts call for more heavy snow this
week. Other South American resorts should offer great conditions on
their
announced June openings. Snowfall has been particularly heavy in
southern
regions. Termas de Chillan already reports a 2 meter base. Cerro
Catedral
in Bariloche is reporting some of its deepest May snowfalls in years.

Hello,
Sorry if you have read this post on other lists but i just found this one which seems to be the real deal. Anyway, I am looking for someone to ski with in South America this season so if you are interested please email me (pweiland@usc.edu). I have never been there before and know only basic basic spanish so this is why I am trying to find a partner. I am a 22 year old recent graduate from the Univeristy of Southern California born and raised in Chicago. I am a decent skier and want to become killer this summer in SA. I've only done backcountry skiing two or three times so I'm pretty unexperienced with off-piste and have mainly been a vacation skier my whole life. If you are intersted please get in touch with me soon!
To the more experienced skiers on this list, do you think Las Lenas is the right place for me. I starting to think my eyes might be bigger than my stomach. Can a upper level intermediate skier have a good time there? I would love to get in touch with an experienced SA skier who could give me some advice. Thanks a ton!

Dr. Jabberwocky/Pete- sorry, we don't have space in the condo, but would be more than happy to provide some hospitality in early September if you make it down to LL. Feel free to shoot me a PM if you got any ???. I dropped in solo my first trip to SA and was one of the best trips I've ever made.

will start turning lifts later this month with excellent snow
conditions.
You can check out opening weekend photos of El Colorado at

Nevado and Portillo. Snowfall has been particularly heavy in southern
