View Full Version : Pain in ankle/arch

Ok so, a few weeks ago i landed extremely flat on some ice being stupid, when i hit i landed front seat and my body shot forwards towards the ground. I heard something pop in my ankle at the time i think. But i skied on it after and i felt fine. However after i took my boot off that afternoon i had to physcialy push on the back of my heel to get it back in my boot because it just didnt feel like i had the strength in it. So i stayed off it for a couple weeks (its been almost 5weeks now). Now in the morning when i wake up my ankle feels fine but after i walk on it or ski on it near the end of the day i get a horrible pain near my aquiles and in my arch. The doctor said it didnt look like i had any tendon damage and that it was just a sprain but it just doesnt feel like that to me. I cant really afford to get custom footbeds right now, and i was told trying those might help. But would just buying some sort of insole thing help or am i just gonna have to tough it out and hope it gets better? Has something similar to this happend to anyone else?

could be a couple things. From the spounds of the location it could either be a sprain of the mid foot or possible a stretch injury to the plantar fascia. Platar fascia injuries can take a long time to heal especially if you keep aggrivating them by either being on your feet alot or skiing, running etc....

Try some warm soacks and stretching of the achillies. As far as foot beds go try some off the shelf superfeet. They have decent arch support for non custom footbeds. If you are still active on the foot make sure to ice it down after skiing running, etc..

if it is infact a stretch injury would the footbed still help? or atleast have enough chance to bother picking one up? or woudl you recomend doing something else?

The achilles tendon ends in multiple strands that attach under the ankle bone, I believe. Find vote4pedros thread about his ankle pain, try the manipulations I told him to do, eat two aspirin, and check back in in the morning.

It should also be noted that in reflexology, the curvature of the arch is directly related to the same points along the curvature of the back. Is the arch pain referring from a back injury you are not aware of?

IF the plantar fascia is the problem an off the shelf foot bed MIGHT work......

Ok so today i tried skiing with just a regular superfeet footbed and i already notice a huge difference while im skiing with absorbstion of landings (not killing my heel or arch) and im expecting the arch pain to slightly go away. And splat, i had already tried all of those before i made this post and they didnt work for me really, but sometimes if i try to flex my ankle up alot i can hear a pop in my ankle and then all the pain in the aquiles area goes away for about 3 or 4 hours then it comes back again. I dont really know whats wrong back there but i think the footbed is definately going to help with my arch.

Sounds more and more like the plantar fascia. Keep with the treatments I described and it should begin to get better. I still may take some time for full healing though.

I was thinking plantar fasciitis and maybe some Achilles damage? I have PF and it basically feels like someone is stabbing an ice pick through the arch of your foot, into your heel. I now wear Brooks Adrenaline running shoes (per doc's orders) at work, and the problem has gone away. You need to do lots of stretching and wear shoes with a high arch support to help with the arch pain. Good luck!

So I've been noticing some pretty painful achilles action while running lately. This is following some plantar fasciitis issue about 7 weeks ago. I realize the three are related, but frankly, I dont want to stop running as I may lose my sanity and will definitely lose any fitness I have before ski season gets going here in CA (...pause for emphasis...).
So my questions are:
1) how to prevent the pain in achilles? specific stretches/strengthening exercises?
2) this is my non-ACL-surgery knee (but it was originally my bad knee before i tore the other ACL)...could any compensation or muscle imbalace be causing this? what to do??
