Splat and I have called it in chat. Official date for the mini, April 28 (thursday) through Sunday, May 1.

Get your butts to Mammoth, it'll be rocking. I'll plan a party and help arrange lodging (I can get a great deal on a couple condos). Also, we can plan carpools from SF, LA and Reno.

edited for carpool comment.

I figure that with all of us Season Pass holders at Mammoth, we've got to have at least 10 Bring A Friend coupons -- I'll donate my two, to start things off. It makes the lift ticket $36 instead of 60something and up to 3 people can use one coupon (but you have to a buy multi-day ticket on Friday and no later).

Come on PNWers and ECers and anyone skunked this year -- get your butt to Mammoth!

PSA:
LAX is twice as far away as RNO.
LAS is the same distance as LAX, but flights are often much cheaper.
And Mammoth spring skiing is the shit.

With this year's excellent snowpack and an earlier summit date, a lot more of the mountain should be skiable than last year.

I am also up for some east side touring.

Guys - let me know if anyone needs lodging. I can get the condo next door to the one we have for the same price (75/person for the weekend), I think, but won't look into it unless there's a need.

I'm thinking about heading down to Mammy on Thursday 4/28, then leaving on Sunday 5/1.

Most likely flying into RNO, as it is the cheapest option with the best flight schedule from SEA.

However, if some people would want to car pool from SEA/B-Ham, PDX/Hood, Eugene, Bachelor - we could easily arrange the carpool via the lovely I-5.

I'm definitely in for Mammy. But will need to wait on some other PNW'ers before confirming flight or driving details.

If you basically had that Wooly medallion with PM across the front, that would be my vote. Plus Wooly is a maggot, so that would be extra cool.

Not feeling the circle. Another factor is cost if the colors are white/red/black it is about 2/3 less than with 1 or two colors.

"Hello, My Name is ____D-I-N-G-L-E, Dingle.____"

Cool. What do I win?

Edit: OK here's the deal, I am heading to Utah this weekend, I will be back next week. Voice what you like and don't like and if you want a circle design you might want to ask someone else to create the sticker.

Cost for 125 sticekers (min) is about $130 with 2 colors, $120 with one color on a varity of vinyl backings.

Cost for 250 stickers (min) with ONLY Red/White/Black colors on vinyl is about $40.00.

Is it doable in three hours? Less?

Lessee - I'd say it's pretty doable, but only if you don't stop for nuthin', and you drive your car like it was stolen. It's 160-170 miles of driving with only minor amounts of curvy driving. A more realistic time would be 3 1/2 or more with a stop included.

I like it Tuffy - Dingle, I appreciate all of your efforts but, as I said before, it looks very official, like it needs laminating and a "Hello, My Name is...". Tuffy's is more consistent with all the PM stickers etc. And I think all the PM stickers should be consistent, why change what ain't broke?

Tuffy - I miss the PM across the Woolly, though. And maybe tetongravity.com across the top, instead of Powder Maggot?

A mammoth mini is just a long weekend when a bunch of us internet geeks get together and ski/board, party, drink, and ski/board. Oh and sometimes there is a raffle where we get free shit. Mini just recognizes the fact that it's not a "summit" which includes the whole slew of us, but instead, is usually limited to locals - ie. less than 500 miles away or so.

the back of the voucher sez "Not valid for groups or clubs." OK! We are NOT together
"Limit up to 3 friends per card, (you may buy multi day tickets and receive discount). One time use only"

Schralper - the voucher you have is different from the voucher that 50kleg is offering up. Yours sounds like the Bring A Friend thing that we're all bringing to give out to mini-goers - and Divegirl, with those you have to purchase your tix on a Friday, I believe (buy a 3 out of 4 day ticket at the coupon price).

Regarding the sticker - I'm not judge and jury so, Dingle, no need to drop out until we've heard from others.

Oh man. It's puking right now. Heavy wind gusts have closed the upper mtn. Chairs 3 & 5 are closed today.

AND, Lincoln mtn is barely spinning!

BTW, if it hasn't already been mentioned, April 24 is the predetermined closing date for Canyon Lodge.

Keep the stoke alive and get out here NOW if you can! Snow should be continuing until this Friday!

Chair 22 didn't even run today. 16 didn't spin until nearly 2pm. Got laps on the chair-22 liftline run (deep and light every time) by double-chairing 17 to 4 instead.

Correction. Minis are not limited to locals. Mini is more of a temporal designation. The full summits are week long affairs. Minis take up a long weekend. See the Utah minis for reference. People from all over the continent go to those.

Yes - and especially true for this Mini. Many mags are flying in. And with 15" fresh yesterday and 3 storms lining up - end of April will be awesome.

Now on to the important news: I got Lakanuki to give our group drink specials and possibly food specials for the 30th. But I need someone (paging Dingle) to design a Maggot Pass for us to show the bartenders and servers to get the discount - something easy for us to print out at home. I'm still in conversation about exactly what kind of drink for the discount - he offered well drinks, or maybe a specialty drink or two (he said margs).

Other news. I stayed in a very reasonably priced condo that is huge and sleeps tons (2 sets of bunks, a king, 2 pullouts and a huge living room) that was only $150/night - $388 for the weekend with taxes and booking fee. I highly recommend it. Email for info - I still haven't heard back from my friend, but that one is $420 so this one is better, although not central to the Village like the other, it's near Vons. But by the end of April, Canyon is closed so you have to drive to the mountain anyway.

What mountain is this? I skied something that vaugely resembled Hangman's the other day, except the exit was 50 ft wide. Skied something that vaugely resembled Phillipes, but there was no rock drop (no rock period) at the exit. The drop out the end of Starr Chute if you were to stay skiiers left is about as big as the drop out of phillipe's used to be. Cowboy rock (under 22) looks as big as Potato rock (under Broadway express). Potato rock looks like, wait what potato rock  ? But damn it we need more snow, you still have to walk down two steps to get out of the gondola at the top

Squirrel, I was thinking the same thing. I'd absolutely love to ski Bloody. But Schralper brings up a good point. There's a dirt road that most people take to get close the base of the couloir in spring. Only problem, it's probably buried right now. From what I understand, it's a loooong slog unless you can drive up said road.

Does anyone have any other suggestions? Maybe the ridgeline that runs from Bloody to behind Mammoth. Seems like there's lots of options there and we could yo-yo it. Tioga could be sweet, but the gate's not gonna open for a while. Virginia Lakes is  , but I've only looked at it before. Never skied back there so I don't know much about winter access.

Except if MrNohills & I make the trek to Mammoth. :( This is exactly why I'm hesitating.

Don't hesitate, just go. I mean, c'mon, there's a crapload of snow and everyone there is good peops. Well, except maybe that tuffy guy, he's pretty much just an asshole.

Seriously - who has the sticker printing connection?
And the drinking pass -- everyone could print that out at home and bring it. Laminate it if you want at your local kinkos. Let's just decide which one to use.

The company that did the EC Mini stickers treated us well and the cost was reasonable I believe. I'd be willing to look into it and get 'er done.

Like CS said above. I barely know most of these clowns going, but I do know one thing- It's gonna be a ton of fun with so many people going.
Plus, somebody needs to represent the Great Plains States

I'm gonna have to wait to see how Saturday night pans out :fm:

But wouldn't rule out crashing early and making a 'somewhat' dawn patrol

Sounds good to me. If there's skiing to be had, I'm quite capable of moderating my consumption.

Anyone going to be sticking around for touring Monday, Tuesday or beyond?

Anybody have accomodations suggestions for people who are currently homeless? For the summit I mean.

My offer for driving Bay Area types still stands. No stickers or laminates required.

Mammoth is more than worth the effort. Many people make a much longer drive to ski Mammoth for good reason.

I'm heading up with a buddy that's pretty bad... he'd certainly hold y'all up, if anything.

I say, head out, meet us all, and see what it's really like. Hesitate only after you find out first hand that you don't have fun with us! ;)

Mammoth's pretty good for a variety of abilities in that there's almost always an easy way down in close proximity to the tougher stuff. Therefore, it's pretty easy to meet up with the not-so-good skiers at the a chairlift. If you can get down a groomed, single black diamond, then you can ride any lift and get to the same places that the rest of the crew is heading to.

Also, you gotta remember that this is spring skiing. It's a different mentality... It's much more of a party atmosphere then your typical mid-winter powder day. I think you're worrying too much!

We can get down single black diamonds in MI.

I'm too lazy to read through 9 pages of tuffy and yoga flirting, and I'm too poor to spend a ton of money on lodging. So what's the scoop? Is there a condo I can get in on? Is someone looking to split a Motel 6 room?

(I figure I can be all demanding like this, since I organized the condo for the first annual Maggot Mini way back 2003.)

How many peeps camping? I got a number of last minute guys showing up and we might just camp rather than throw down on rooms. Plus they get a little rowdy and it will lessen the chances of getting thrown in jail.
Me and DG still are. Although I think all the close in places to town and the mountain will be deep in winter still. Maybe hot springs camping or Convict/McGee canyon areas? I guess we'll pretty much just show up and see.
Also, can anyone in the condos house my bike? Since I am not skiing, I am thinking about bringing the bike and hitting some lower elevation trails but don't want to keep it sitting in the back of my truck in the open when partying at nights.

Sorry, I cannot - every inch of space in that condo is taken.

to answer some PMs - those arriving in the wee hours and don't know how to hook up on friday or saturday: we'll have a meeting place both mornings, probably the mid-mountain McCoy big sign at 10AM. When Splat works out the tickets (which I'll also work on this week), we'll have a meeting place to purchase tickets, probably the Main Lodge Guest Services at 9AM.

We'll do a cell number exchange, if necessary. I'll start a new thread with all logistics when everything's set.

I'll be at the Motel 6 as well. My flight gets into Reno 4/28 @ 11:00 PM so I'll be arriving 4/29 in the wee hours of the AM. Got the room for Thurs, Fri, Sat, and Sun. Got a room for myself, so if someone want to split it, pm me.

Did we come to any sort of decision on stickers? Who? What design? How many?

I can still try to see if the company in New Hampshire can do an express order.

Why not see how much that would be? We'd need about 100 stickers, I think.

500 is the minimum order. Given the last order, I'm guessing it'll be about 200 to 250 for that much.

Do it? ...brown or pink? probably can't do both.

shmerham

I told them no:

Weather Proof 2 Color labels 2" Dia
QTY: 250 - 312.54
QTY: 500 - 354.56 Plus alittle Shipping

The turnaround time is as follows: If I email the artwork in today by 4 O'Clock the order will be processed today and shipped out on Tuesday and we would have the order in Wednesday.

That's $4/person IF everyone buys stickers. ...and I wouldn't be able to get them wednesday anyhow.

yogachik
04-21-2005, 02:02 PM
I wouldn't do any more than 500 (the minimum). Split it 250 each for each color (personally, I'd get the pink). Is that still $4 a person?

Is this really the cheapest deal? I know next to nothing about printing/graphics.

I won't be up to tour on Friday. If anyone is looking to tour on Saturday or Sunday. Mt. Wood would be a good idea. Lots of vertical and not a difficult approach. I'd do Bloody. I can't speak about the road and the approach length right now. It may be long (but not as long as Langley - See Bullet2's thread). Mini-Morrison. Laurel (the Mendenhall was super-filled in and as easy as it gets over Eastern). So many b/c lines in the Mammoth area. The Bishop area has several other options.

Feel free to send me a private message if you want to tour over the weekend.

If anyone remembers 1995 (Mammoth closed on August 13th that year), it looks like the coverage this year is about the same.

Just in case anyone was on the fence, this is the year to go.
