View Full Version : Question regarding epoxy cure time for non-loadbearing inserts

Okay, despite the confusing title, my question is this: my skis are currently mounted for Plum Guides (just the heels are hard mounted) and have inserts for FKS. I want to ski the skis tomorrow in the resort as my touring plans fell through. Is there any reason I can't install inserts for the tech binder heels tonight and ski the setup tomorrow? Only thing I'm worried about is affecting the curing of the epoxy, but the inserts wouldn't be taking any load.
Also, I usually use 72 hour epoxy, but I'm assuming it would be better to use 24 hour in this case?
Thanks in advance!

Better get 12 hour epoxy and get on it right now!
And let it cure somewhere warm.

Okay, guess I should just ski something else tomorrow. Thanks splat.
Damn, was really hoping to get those 191 Fats in the resort again!

I missed this thread the first time around, but I was searching and it came up. reminded me of my entire childhood.
No matter how many times I did it, I always seemed to finish up the model plane and then sit there watching the glue dry. Slowly convincing myself that it was probably dry enough, even though the label said to wait longer. Then I would throw the plane ever so lightly just to see if it would fly. Then I would throw it harder because the first flight went well. And then it would come unglued since I only waited 25 minutes instead of 24 hours. Laughing to myself right now.

Inserts are permanent. Take your time.

They've probably hardened by now. Yup.
Jon -- that's hilarious. I've actually managed to wait the full amount for (almost) every installation I've done. My body can't afford for that shit to break.
