Didn't go, didn't want to burn half a tank of gas for possible shittiness. I suspect that with the warm weather we've been having (50 in Breck for a week), 70s in the FR, its probably good to go. I didn't make the drive though.

Rode a few trails out there today,
Started at the scraggly mtn parking lot and rode the Colorado trail to the green mountain loop, the closer we got to green mtn the worse the conditions, I would not recommend this section yet.
We then crossed the rode and climbed gas house gulch to baldy trail, this was good to go. The we climbed Morrison creek to shingle house back to the parking lot.
Basically everything was good with the exception of the colorado trail.
Well until the next storm.

It is riding fast as hell right now, if they don't get some moisture it will be a goner in a monthish.

Last weekend was awesome. Sunday was cool with snow squalls moving in and out during the day and lots of wind. Watch out for falling beetle kill! I started at the Pine Valley area and rode up Strawberry to Charlies up to Rasberry Ridge/Blackjack. Then down Sandy Wash. The only snow I encountered was climbing on the 543 road in several short sections on the way to Baldy. Up Baldy and down Gas House was good then up Baldy again and down Strawberry. That was last Sunday so It should be good to go by now.

It's really dry on southern exposures. A guy I met and tagged along with washed out coming down sandy was in one of the turns. Fucked up his shoulder pretty bad, sitting in the ER now. Colorado trail is good to go now thou.

I think we passed you guys not long after it happened. He was in the RPM jersey? I couldn't tell if he was carrying something....apparently it was his arm. That sucks.
Good to know about the CT. Trails were in pretty good shape. Shit is always loose up there unless it is straight up raining.

I will second everything said above with respect to trail conditions -- typical Buff Creek (i.e., loose in places but ridiculously fun). Few remaining snowy/muddy spots on 543 but Morrison Creek, Shinglemill, Gashouse, Charlie's, Homestead, Sandy Wash, and Super Mario World something or another (the last stretch above the fire road, past the formal end of Sandy Wash) were $$$. Felt SO good to be back on a bike.

Yes! I think I'm gonna take credit for 'Super Mario World'. Haha!
And damn skippy, it felt nice to be on the bike today. Game on.

^ Yup, I am certain that I got that from an old post of yours. My friends and I have been calling it that since...
BTW, seat droppers are the shiznit -- this was the maiden voyage for the Reverb I got from your shop, flowtron
CT is in great shape, just a couple small patches of ice and even less mud. Really missed riding over the "winter."

Yep that was us. Did you pass us when we were walking on the road or were you in the group that drove my car down to Denver?

So I guess this means I'm not riding buff creek tomorrow. Shit, vibes to the people who have had to evacuate, hope the firefighters can get this thing under control soon. 3000 acres in a day is nutz.

We went by up on Sandy Wash. I think it may have just happened. Two or three guys looking a little concerned on the side of the trail, RPM guy got going very slowly just as my wife and I approached. Another group of guys sitting just above one of the big gully turns a bit further on. Something did seem kinda weird. We were on white and black Santa Cruz bikes.
Looks like the fire is well east of BC. Parts of Deer Creek may be more of a concern if this thing keeps going.

Wondering if it'll be good to go this weekend. According to MTBR, "it was dry, smoke, and fire free" yesterday. Any of you non-desk-jockeys been there since the fire started and can comment?
And this might be a completely retarded question -- been out of town and not following local news...

Looking at the JeffCo map of the fire perimeter it wasn't near the Buffalo Creek trails at all. It was East of everything.

Guess it depends on wind direction, but it would take some pretty unusual weather to blow that crap over to the trails.

Buff Creek has to be perfect.... the more rain that place gets, the better. I'm hoping to get up there on Saturday or Sunday this weekend.

I was out there today and it is indeed pretty much perfect. This weekend should be nice if this keeps up.

It was nice today as well, though the weak winter/spring is evident. Really pussed out on slot machine.
