Opinions needed: So, I'm making the switch to Dynafit TLT speeds on my spring setup (Atomic Kongurs )and bagging the currently mounted Freerides. Originally I was then going to mount the Freerides on a 2008 4FRNT VCT (189), but it was suggested that I buy inserts (Binding Freedom) and switch the Dynafits between the Kongurs and VCTs. I will also be purchasing a pair of Maestrales. I just wanted to get some opinions as to whether the Speeds and Maestrales can handle the VCTs. This would only be for deeper backcountry days. I'll also insert the current alpine bindings for resort days. This is appealing on several levels, mainly lightening up the VCTs for backcountry use, but I would also like to sell the Freerides to help offset the cost of the new setups. I know there are several beefier Dynafits and compatible boots, but for several reasons it's got to be the Maestrales and Speeds.

I find the Maestrale to be plenty of boot for 190 Lotus 120's.

The 189 VCT/ 190 EHP of that era is a fairly stiff ski. Have you skied it yet, with any boot/binding?

IMHO, the Speed isn't any more or less durable/fragile than any of the other Dynafits, so I wouldn't worry about that.

I have skied it with Vista/4FRNT bindings it came with for a few days in AK. I was driving it with a Garmont Adrenalin. I had no issues with the Adrenalins.

I switched from Garmont Axons (a bit stiffer than Adrenalins, I think) to the Maestrale. While the Maestrale flexes softer than the Axon, it skis better -- I think because the Maestrale just fits my foot really really well.

If you were comfortable with that ski in an Adrenalin, I think you'd be comfortable with it in a Maestrale.

Go for it. I've skied that very setup. The Mastrale is too soft for me, but if you're not a tailgunner like myself you can probably make it work. The VCT is stiff, but I like that. Speeds work just fine in that ski, never had trouble and have used it inbounds and out for playful skiing. When playful turns aggressive, I'd be wanting something different than a dynafit, but there are folks who prove that this is also unnecessary if you're smoove.

Funny that you have the exact same setup. I was just looking for informed guesses, but now I have informed fact. I'm on it.

I have a similar setup. Scarpa Mobe's + Dynafit FT12 + Sollyfit plates + 189 VCT Turbos (09/10). I dumped Dukes for the FT12's for easier touring and couldn't be happier. I ski just as hard on the FT12's as I do with the Solly STH16's (including several inbounds days) and haven't noticed any drop in performance.
