View Full Version : Shoulder Pain...

About 3-4 weeks ago I hit my shoulder pretty good on a tree branch. I had pain and a sweet ass bruise for about a week. Then everything seemed fine for the last couple weeks.

Yesterday it started aching again, and I now have a pretty good sized lump on my shoulder.

Would a broken or cracked collarbone or what not go away for a while and then return? If I do indeed have a cracked collarbone is there anything going to the doctor would help? Or would he just take some x-rays, tell me yes it's cracked and send me on my way. I'm not a real doctor kind of guy and tend to avoid them unless something is truly wrong. Should I go?

doesn't sound like a fracture. If you had fractured your clavicle, you would have known it.

Where is the bump? Front of the shoulder or on top where the clavicle ends?

Top where the clavicle ends?

Yup, that's it.

if you hit the top of your shoulder on the branch and that is where the bump is you might have sprained or torn the ligaments around the AC (acromioclavicular) joint. google acromioclavicular joint or separated shoulder and see if it sounds familiar to what you are experiening/seeing/feeling.

Good luck

Hurt my fucking shoulder again......I actually fell on my right side (caught an edge on the spatuletts) and have road rash on my right forearm. But my left shoulder got jolted enough to realy hurt...when taking my boots off I over extended and my shoulder partial dislocated and popped back into place...now it just hurts....I origionaly dislocated this shoulder falling down a couloir in Chamonix...every 3 months I end up crashing hard enough to dislodge it...novermber I hit a tree and early september was barefoot waterskiing :(...gonna rest all week and hope I'm not a one pole pony in Jackson next weekend!

Might think about getting that thing fixed after ski season. Sounds like you are headed towards having a chronicly dislocating shoulder. Would not be good to be on some sketch coulie fall and disolcate.....

In the mean time, keep the arm in a sling to allow the muscles to stop spasming and take the tension of the injured ligaments within the shoulder.
ICe 15-20 min on and maye 40-60 min off. Do that 5x day for the first 3 days. You can move to heat after those 3 days are up.

Good luck and think about getting it fixed after the season.

Dude, sorry to hear about your injury. I dislocated my right shoulder twice and it hurt for almost a year, the only thing that worked for me was a physical therapy. If I were you, I'd do MRI scan or x-ray to know what is going on there.
