The heart of Superfeet Worldwide is built around our core values, and we work daily to make a positive difference in all of the lives we touch. This desire guides how we create our products and shapes the way we treat the people we work with.
If you join our team as our Product Manager you’ll become part of the family that created Outside Magazine’s 6th Best Place to Work in America. We offer incredible benefits, a fun work environment, and, best of all, we have an Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP). This means our employees are partial owners of Superfeet Worldwide!
Our corporate office- located halfway between Vancouver, BC and Seattle, WA- is just minutes from the water and a mere hour from beautiful Mt. Baker. The Pacific Northwest lifestyle has always been at the heart of Superfeet. An extremely active community, Bellingham is a mid-sized city offering a ridiculously great lifestyle, including year-round skiing and snowboarding, outstanding sea kayaking, world-class hiking and trail running, and epic mountain biking and cycling opportunities.
Our Product Manager position is a senior, critical role at Superfeet Worldwide reporting directly to the Vice President of Marketing. As a sales-driven company, Superfeet depends on the availability of premium products featuring the best in innovative shape & design, utilizing the latest technological materials available. The responsibility for providing these products in a timely fashion belongs to the Product Manager.
You are a good candidate for this role if:
* People enjoy working with you and your good sense of humor
* You are great at building relationships and can listen deeply and act decisively
* You tactfully manage conflicting priorities and differences in opinion with your excellent written and verbal communication skills
* You are naturally inclined toward living our core values
* You thrive in a creative environment and can move quickly and comfortably between multiple projects, managing them from start to finish
* You demonstrate an ability to lead others, instill confidence, and work effectively as part of a dynamic team
* You will encourage others in the process of debating, deciding, and aligning on important company decisions
As Product Manager you are expected to:
* Manage the product introduction process from initial concept through market introduction.
* Research and monitor the existing marketplace (retail and consumer demand) and identify new product opportunities that complement our existing product line, consumer needs, and approved company direction.
* Be fully aware of competing products and their pricing matrix as it affects our product line. Work to ensure Superfeet products achieve appropriate margins and profitability.
* Work with Superfeet’s Marketing Manager and Creative Lead to ensure product design is in keeping with overall branding and creative direction.
* Initiate all product development initiatives with our manufacturing partners.
* Organize and manage product testing programs (including the compilation and presentation of results) to inform the decision making process and adequately support the final decision. This includes all necessary market background (research) for evaluation.
* Where applicable, initiate and manage the legal patent process of new products and secure trade mark registrations in conjunction with brand marketing.
* Upon approval of new product introduction, assist Purchasing during initial manufacturing set-up phase, especially as it relates to achieving ‘first cost’ goals. Continue to monitor progress during the production process, taking an active role in resolving problems and issues. Educate customers and retail floor staff on Superfeet product. Emphasize product features based on analyses of customers' needs, and on technical knowledge of product capabilities and limitations.
* Upon approval of a new product introduction, coordinate the pricing matrix (MSRP and SF margin) for the new product with Superfeet’s Sales Department. With Sales’ input, establish unit sales forecasts (i.e. financial budgets) for both the immediate and long term future. Be prepared to support Sales with technical information during the introduction phase of the product.
* Upon approval of a new product for introduction, coordinate the overall product strategy for selling and promoting the product with Brand Marketing. Provide Brand Marketing with pertinent information on the product and its features and materials.
* Work with the other Superfeet departments to establish a proper timetable for production planning through final shipping of the product to our customers. Take a prominent proactive role in ensuring this timetable is met, and be prepared to reconcile any issues that would prevent a smooth introduction to the marketplace.
* Coordinate market feedback after product introduction, and take necessary steps to communicate and resolve problems in various departments.
* Continuously monitor the product’s success and be prepared to present findings as part of the future planning process.
* Regularly update to Management on all relevant development projects and/or issues that pertain to company time schedules and/or unexpected circumstances.
* Initiate and request Management approval on the department’s yearly fiscal budget, and manage it monthly for reporting purposes.
* Travel worldwide for trade shows, product development and production, and consumer research.
The ideal candidate will have the following experience and knowledge:
* Prefer a minimum 1-2 years of product management experience in the packaged goods industry AND another 1-2 years in the footwear and/or sporting goods industry, for a total of at least 2-5 years of robust and varied product management responsibilities.
* Experience working in a retail environment is a plus.
* Experience working in an independent or house account sales position is a plus.
* Technical background or experience working with footwear or feet.
If you are interested and meet the qualifications below, please shoot an email to hr@superfeet.com. Thanks!
