when i flexed the hole ski i got a 13.5, something similar to a shanook, but the skis flex came from the tip and tail, when i took 10 cms off the back and front i was expecting a higher number (i was expecting like 20 or so) because of the pressure applied to a smaller area, the thing scored a 25.4

suprised.

Is the Kahuna like the SP with a really soft tip and tail and then stiffer through the middle?

i have been on my kahuna's about 10 or so days so far this season. i live/ski in tahoe, alpine meadows pass holder, and december has been deep and sick. perfect conditions for what i bought these fat bastards for.......skiing pow fast. the verdict is in: they rock. got them mounted up with some old slamons s912's, center mount. i am 5'9 and 155 lbs......so far, no complaints. they slay the pow and crud (well, haven't had much crud yet this season), an incredible platform for landing airs, and they are fast as hell with that surface area.......you gotta stay on 'em and not space out, because they be fast, but ride 'em like a long board, surf 'em, and they are the shit........except on groomers, but that's not what i ski and that's not why i bought 'em, so no biggie......

only thing i dislike is traversing, hiking, skating long distnaces on them. Alpine has loads of BC/OB stashes that require long skates, traverses, etc, and they are heavy and wide for long duck walks, etc......but once you get to where you are going, its worth the slog.....

Hey Dude,
I was asking around @ ski flex ratings last week.....I'm curious how you came up with these numbers. Sounds like some type of shop device. Am wondering if ski manufacturers will rate their flex or will offer these numbers if asked.
Thanks for any info.

Soooooo, I guess I ain't gonna ever know. Let's skip the manufacturer question and stay with how did you get those numbers?

A while back (at another place) dude_le had some free time, a shop full of skis, and rigged up a device to "measure" flex of skis. If I recall correctly, the flex numbers could be compared to each other to determine the relative "stiffness" or "softness" of a particular ski as compared to others he tested. There is not (as far as I know) any sort of industry or manufacturer standard that measures this.
Which means some of us just use, and understand, the d_l_b standard.
