so word is a bunch of good patrollers are leaving and a number of spots are opening up. Last season was shitty snow wise because we donated all our snow to the lower 48 so I think people who were considering life changes just decided it was time.

Im bummed to see some good friends move on but its alaska and they will always come back.

If you've got the skills and chill attitude put in an application and come play in Girdwood.

FYI Im not on patrol or even work for the resort but they are all good friends and I want to see good people in the positions. As always pay isn't great but you get to play with explosives, make avalanches, and the resort doesn't open till 10:30 so you even get to sleep in till a decent hour on control mornings.

I am the new patrol director at Mt Eyak. I would like to add that we are always hiring. $12 an hr. Any NSP members that would like to come over and visit you can make back most of your ferry ticket. We provide room and board. Good deal if you like fish.

Please tell me you applied to Alyeska after all the shit you have talked about them over the years. Oh the irony!!

Hahaha yeah, if you can't beat em might as well join em? And the new ownership isn't that bad, at least they realize people like to ski and not just stay at a dark japanese style hotel...

the folks who used to own Alyeska made this horrible hotel and pretty much ignored skiing

I wanted to move from maintenance to ski patrol when I was working there back in the early 80's. I went down to take an EMT class at the fire department, and changed careers. Now, 25 years later, I'm sorely tempted to change careers back.

I went from fire to patrol*. Just sayin'. What else you got going on right now?

*Though I retired from fire.

Actually I'm eligible to be "retired" in April, although my retirement will be only able 2k per month. That's alright as a subsidy but not as an income.

I'm still going to plug my resume around; I could use a few more years to boost that 2k, but in the meantime I'm going to play if someone will hire me. And my wife. She's game for patrolling too.
