so anways, this will be my first winter driving in my own car, and in an effort to sleep as late as i can every morning before school, i was wondering if there is something i could slap onto my windshield at night to prevent it from icing up overnight, and to allow me to be free of scraping my windshield for 10 mins every morning.

I was thinking something along the lines of a potato sack and duct tape combo, or maybe just some cardboard

any other ideas of something i could make/buy?

am i just a JONG and dont realize that they already sell stuff to prevent this, or just a JONG b/c there is nothing that exists that can prevent this?

These things do tend to stop the dew icing your screen up but you may become a target. I was in La Plagne a few years back and there was one guy who arrived in a VW Transporter and duly covered every window with cardboard. Nobody else in the entire resort had bothered so that night we ran out of our apartment with saucepans of cold water and repeatedly saturated the cardboard. By the time we'd finished there was a coat of ice over an inch thick over his VW. His face when he arrivved back next morning was a picture.

Trust me, if such a product did exist, I know I'd buy a case of it every winter. The best way to prevent the windsheild from icing up? Build a garage.

If its precipitating don’t have the defrost hammering on the window before you park. Cold glass does not melt the falling snow. This trick is more effective the colder it gets.

Anything that doesn't absorb water. The plastic ground sheet from your tent...a tarp...big trash bags...

buy a remote car starter, leave the defroster on high so when you start the car it will defrost itself. I used to leave my keys on my bedside table and as soon as I woke up I started the car, by the time i showered and dressed the car was not only de iced but warm too;)

When I was living in Montana, my old man neighbor used these on his two cars since he didn't have a garage. I couldn't tell you if they worked very well or not though...

Easy fix if your not in the Artic (-34) this stuff works like a charm and is nice when you don't have the time to let the car completely thaw.

Never had to do more than apply a bit more and use the windsheild wipers, screw using a scraper anymore.;)

That stuff is an environmental hazard!!! Doesn't the bottle have a skull and crossbones on it? :eek:

I wouldn't substitute it with your favorite sports drink, but I can't imagine it's a lot worse than the regular stuff.

Not to say that it's a enviro-friendly product. Hey I drive a four-banger that gets 35-40, and car pool most days with the g-friend, gotta level it out someplace.;)
