So, here's the lowdown. Got a friend coming out for a week long whirlwind bike tour of Utah; Trailside Park -> Arcylon -> Deer Valley (if it opens more) -> Moab (whole enchilada, or most of it)-> Virgin (Grafton, Gooseberry) -> Brian Head (Dark Hollow - snow dependent)

Trying to decide if it's worth it to rent all week for him, or buy a bike and try and resell when he leaves. The other option is to get a bike that I would use in the future and maybe he'd kick me a couple hundred bucks towards it. I found a used Medium Turner RFX that I've been lusting after, problem is I'm 5' 9" and 160 lbs; he's 6' 2" and 220 lbs.

Would it be miserable for him to ride something this small. Would it even hold up? (RP23 shock, lyrik coil u-turn, Mavic crossline wheels). I'm not worried about the shock, more the frame, wheels, and whether or not we can get the fork to work with his weight without replacing coils, although I'm not opposed to it if I can get the coils easily and do the job myself (aside - I've torn down Marzocchi's before, harder, easier?)

He's not a hucker, but he would be bashing through the rock gardens for sure. I know guys who ride a size small so that they can throw the bike around more, but is this too much of a stretch?

Any input appreciated...

As far as sizing, that depends on the year. They shortened the TT on the later models.

Frame size shouldn't dictate strength. Throw some heavier springs in the fork, and make him put a deposit down on the wheels. :D

Replacing the coil in the fork is easy to do and getting a stiffer spring should be no problem.

Deposit on the wheels sounds good, haha! It's a 2008. Is that a short year? I suppose I can throw a longer stem on there as well if need be... to a certain point.
