View Full Version : Atomic Ski company won't provide support for my Brand New IZOR skis

I bought a brand new pair of Atomic Izor skis in 2008 from an online retailer and I have been pleading with atomic USA to help me get the bindings I need since they arrived at my home. The problem is that The retailer didnt send the Device 310 bindings that belong on the ski. Atomic has been telling me for 2 years that they dont sell those bindings and will not help me. The sad thing is that Atomic customer support says if I can prove I bought the skis from one of there authorized dealers then they would be willing to support the product. The online retail industry is huge, so I cannot understand how a company can abandon their customers based on where they purchased their products. My Atomic Izor skis are brand new and have never seen snow. I believe the ski community sould know the risks of buying online and also be aware that product support from the manufacturer may not be available for there purchase. I asked Atomic how they could justify building a ski that requires a specific atomic binding, then stop carrying that binding 1 year after releasing the product. It is not right in my opinion and because of this I will never buy an atomic product again. If anyone has any ideas where I can obtain bindings or has any information that could help me I would be very appreciative.
I am hoping that my story will help others avoid the same problem. I knew nothing about device bindings prior to buying these, and I was just getting back into skiing after a 14 year break from the sport. Knowing what I do now I will never buy a system ski again.

Why didn't you just return them?

I was told they didnt except returns because they were a clearance item. After repeatedly trying to get the company to take them back or supply me with the bindings I gave up. Ski season was over so I didnt think about it again until ski season was here once again. I tried contacting them again last year and they were out of business. I then bought a new computer and lost the companies info...my 2 year old urinated on my laptop. I just couldnt win so I have been trying not to think about it. I get very frustrated when I dig into this problem because it seems there is no way to fix it.

So i bought some discontinued skis online from a unreputable source because, well, they were the cheapest. I get the shaft from said shady retailer when i discover the skis need a specific system binding that was never sold independently through legit channels. Atomic customer service calls me out on my shenanigans so i now project all blame on them for my willful ignorance about how the world works. I think this is news and am oblivious to the fact that the vast majority of people figured this kind of thing out before they graduated from high school.
Sean
i condensed your rant for ya.
Chalk it up to a learning lesson JONG.......
and then spend some quality time with Google to see if you can't use some neox binders instead of ones that should've been included with your skis.

I must say that I completely disagree with the response I have recieved. If you buy a used car would you not expect the manufacturer to provide you with the parts to fix it? I believe the ski being 1 year old wouldnt fall into a old discontinued ski catagory especially since the skis are still being sold new today. I do agree my ingnorance about device bindings played a part. But my level of education on an item should not let any manufacturer off the hook as far as supporting their product. I bought the skis because I used them as a rental and liked them, not because they were the cheapest. I am told that device 310 bindings are the only ones that will work properly with the ski. I will buy a flat ski in the future and avoid any potential problems. I however do not understand why a person would insult another when they are asking for advice. People whom have to insult others to make themselves feel better should look very closly at themselves and what they are lacking in there lives.

Props for posting in the right forum but honestly, you kind of came to the wrong place....You'll probably have better luck over on Epicski where the integrated crowd lives. Chances are someone there may have the binding for you.
And to answer your question, nobody agrees with you. Sounds like you bought skis from a discount retailer that wasn't an authorized Atomic dealer.

You got an incomplete order from the online retailer and forgot where you bought them because your kid pissed on your computer. What part of that is Atomic's fault? That would be like if I bought a pair of 2008 Gotamas from someone on TGR and they only sent one ski. Would I call Volkl and demand a single ski because I forgot who ripped me off? Would I be pissed if they don't keep 2008 model skis in stock? Your expectations are unreasonable, bordering on insane. Chalk it up to experience and get some different skis. Good on ya for getting back to skiing after a 14 year hiatus!

post a pic of your skis. it is likey that you can pull part of the binding thing on the ski off, and mount a normal binding.

If I bought a used car without a motor, I wouldn't expect the manufacturer to supply me a motor after the purchase. (Analogous to your situation.)

That's kinda shitty more on the shop's part. There's probably an exact matching number of bindings, plus a few extras just in case. Out the retailer.

for the record 95% chance you can pull the plate thing on the ski and mount any binding.

Use paragraphs Sean. This will most definitely change your fortunes for the better. Dexter Rutecki never used paragraphs and look what happened to him.

I must say that I completely disagree with the response I have recieved. If you buy a used car would you not expect the manufacturer to provide you with the parts to fix it?
No, but the auto manufacturer would be happy to sell you parts if you bought them (and I'm guessing Atomic would do the same).
To further the car analogy, it would be akin to you buying a used Volvo from Joes Used Car lot, then realizing that it didn't have rear brakes and get pissed at Volvo for not sending you a set of brakes. You didn't but it CPO'd from a Volvo dealership (or in your case, from an authorized Atomic reseller) so you're shit out of luck.
I however do not understand why a person would insult another when they are asking for advice. People whom have to insult others to make themselves feel better should look very closly at themselves and what they are lacking in there lives.
This is TGR. If you'd read most of what is here you'd realize that these responses are pretty typical (actually, pretty tame compared to normal standards).
And what the fuck? You bought these a year ago and are just getting around to tracking down the bindings?? Something just doesn't seem right.
In any case, you may want to re-adjust your approach, call Atomic and explain the situation and ask to BUY a pair of the bindings. If you're cool, they might even cut you a break and send them to you on the cheap.
Oh, btw... Sweet blog.
What was their eBay rating? Must have been low to go out of eBay business. You couldn't solve this problem in two years? Are you slow? Your kid pissed on the computer. Wow you have shitty parenting skills as well. Thanks for stopping by, but time to take your sad story elsewhere. GTFO

^^^marshal, your rational reasoning has no place here.
your order is tied to your email address not your computer.
technically, your skis function perfectly. nothing is defective here.
products get discontinued all the time. product life also has no bearing here.
good luck.

If the OP posts his address, social security number and bank account number, I am sure some Nigerian banker will be happy to send him bindings and some money for his trouble. Problem solved :D

Dude.
A search on google turned up a number of places with old 310 bindings for sale. How hard is that?
This took you two years because you are a whiny doucher. Why are you moaning and pissing about it here?

You can definetely pull those plates off and then fill the big ass holes. you need a star key and you "void" the warranty on the ski but it sounds like your effed anyways. I had to do this to a ton of those ski's (i wont get into details) so i know it will work. In fact, any other binding on earth is better than the ones that go on those plates so youre actually better off.
