Super Bro 195 the crud and ice crusher no speed limit days

Just added Bro 188 softs (bigger turning radius and hopefully less chatter at speed then the mantra)

Praxis powder 195 will see action on any deep days we are blessed with

I was just wondering what other EC maggots are skiing on

The quiver has grown this year. It may see some thinning before the season is done, but at the start it is as follows:

178 Volkl Ledge w/ P12s for icy days and bumps.
177 Salomon Lord w/ Z12 Demos will see less use this year, mostly a loaner ski for visiting family and friends.
178 Ski Logik Ullr's Chariot w/ 900s Demos will be the daily driver when it's not too firm and the loaner for whoever wants to try them!
172 Karhu Jak Team Edition w/ NX21s for early/late season touring and longer slogs in the woods.
183 Bro's w/ Barons will see most of their time touring in the Prezzies this season.
186 Lhasas w/ Pivot 14s for new snow and the day after the big storm
186 Spatulas w/ 997s when needed.

DPS - Wailer 105's Pure for everday and most touring.
Wailer 112 RP's Pures for fresh snow over 6". Possibly some tours - especially for trips to SLC and Winter Park for SIA.
May end up with some Hybrid Wailers 95 and 112RP's if budget allows with Jesters.

Both setups with Dyna/Duke plates and Dukes and FT12's.

Older Line Prophet 100's for early season rock skis until they fall apart.

JJs-185: for soft, and touring (These skis are still cool and exempt from current Armada lameness because I bought them in 2008)

Garbones-182: for hard, and chargy feeling days. (We'll see how well that works out :)

Old beat up Karmas: for early season, messing around in the park, and soft slushy spring bumps.

Brewski2
10-31-2010, 10:49 PM
188 wailer 105 pures w/dukes: they carve, they float, they do slack country, they slay all

I'll either add a groomer ski or pow ski next year(bought all new ski gear this year will be getting a blur lt or nomad in the spring)

I used to do the 3-4 ski quiver. I'm now a fan of an old western saying- "beware of a man with only one gun, he'll know how to use it" I found that by changing skis alot I never got to know the nuances of any of them. I would like to try a 'fun shape' though.

I almost didn't post because most people would be too jealous of this quiver.

But what the hell, here goes...

184 Volkl Mantra--for hardpack and ice
184 Volkl Mantra--for powder
184 Volkl Mantra--for trees
184 Volkl Mantra--for the terrain park, skiing switch
184 Volkl Mantra--for moguls
18something BD Crossbows w tele bindings--for the hill behind my house and Magic Mtn.

No rocker, no crapon fiber, no waterskis, nothing made in China

185 Movement Sluff with Dynafit (with Titans) - getting ready for a CH ski mountaineering trip in March '11
185 BD Kilowatt with Switchback - for the 'powder' days...
185 BD Havoc with Switchback - for the rest of the time
183 Atomic RT86 with G3 Ascent - rock skis, out on loan right now

Ski Push boots with the telemark gear, mostly northern Ontario and Quebec but also Adirondacks down around Lake Placid. The telemark makes the east coast hills a lot more challenging. Also spend time at abandoned resorts in northern Ontario messing around in the trees. Have done some ski touring in the Adirondacks and eastern Quebec.

Working up for a big ski mountaineering touring session in Davos/Klosters area in March. Hopefully working up to Haute Route in another year.

178 Line Blends (09) - most days, I absolutely love this ski

178cm DPS Wailer 105s for everyday use (bombers)
186cm ON3P Billy Goats for 6"+ days and corn/west trips/touring (BD 01s)

I like a bit of early tip rise (rocker in case of the BGs) and more pintail like dimensions for east coast tree slashing. Need something quick and slarvyslashy. Mid-low 20s turning radius for lots 'o east coast turning. Also a damp medium flex allows for a smoother ride in the various conditions I deal with at Jay (ordered the BGs a bit softer than their traditional build). Stoked about this one two punch right now.

For everything except powder. Rock skis. For bumps, spring corn, early season, beater resort trees, and carving.

edit: Need to add a 4th ski. Terribly confused on what though. Need something 85-95mm that will rip groomers but also bumps. 20M turn radius or so.

177 Missions - rock skis / hard trees / early season - Dukes and inserts
THA 187 - Steeps, crud, etc - Dukes and inserts
Volkl 193 Racetigers World cup 27M version - Marker 18's - hard snow and speed
Fischer SL skis 14M version - Salomon S916 - hard snow. I often call these my conditioning skis. Everyone who skis 30+ days should have a pair IMHO. Even if you can only get out for 5 runs they will rock your legs if you are skiing hard.
195 Praxis Powderboards - Not positive on bindings, thinking either solly fit plate or dynaduke or dukes with inserts - thoughts?
180 Moment Tahoe - Planning on it being my everyday ski, but thinking about selling it and buying a pair of 179 BRO stiffs or superstiffs (if Splat still has that pair to Too Stiffs from the blem) Either Sollyfit or Dynaduke.

I want to add a 5 point ski (S7, JJ, BG, Protest, and on and on)

08/09 LP100s
08/09 Praxis Mtn Jibs
94/95 Volkl P90SL's for mad river bumps in soft corn several months from now if the cover is good.

I think I'm set unless some LP115's or Wren's come up used in gear swap. I might add a new narrow ski to replace my almost retired Karhu Jak's that are on their last legs. Maybe I'll also get a hyper carving ski instructor ski just to fuck around on. Or a ski ballet ski and some tight pants to match.

Yeah we emailed and I spoke to him on the phone last night. He said they had 175 days on them and almost no edges left so that kind of killed it for me since I need a ski that will handle resort ice. Super tempting though, especially with those bindings. Would have made a great set of rock skis at the very least. He emailed me this morning and said the skis sold on eBay.

i have always been a one ski quiver for all kinda guy. never owned 2 at once. no need. learn to ski all on one good pair o sticks. it'll make you build a bag of tricks that is way more full. always ready for anything instead of, "oh, it snowed, need my pontoons". no, you need to grab yer fucking skis and ski damn it!:D

that said, for all of my skiing 80-100 day season half lifts, half bc:

new 181cm k2 backlash 129-92-115 with marker new marker f12 touring binder. skied em a few times so far and they work in the bumps, groomed, deep manmade, firm, and well, my skinny xc skis work great in pow, anything will work in pow, so i'm sure they'll be just fine for that too. don't see a need for reverse camber or rocker in general, but the tip rocker it has seems to be ok so far.

edit: Need to add a 4th ski. Terribly confused on what though. Need something 85-95mm that will rip groomers but also bumps. 20M turn radius or so.
I just bought 175 4FRNT TNKs but they're short as balls so I need to sell. Looking at 177 or 185 Volkl Bridges, 176 Fischer Watea 84, 4FRNT TNK 180cm.

you wont like the watea 84s they are one of the wimpyiest skis I have skied. They accel at bumps do to it though....

Depends on how much touring you'll be doing. The FX series is geared towards ski mountaineering, its the Davenport pro series I think. The BMX is supposed to be more of a big mountain ski. If you're skiing mostly resorts and some sidecountry I would probably go with the BMX. In either case I would go a little wider with the FX94 or BMX98, especially if you're only going to have one pair of skis.

Here's what I'll be skiing on this year, just mounted the binders last night. 4FRNT MSP 181's and CRJ 188's.

Thanks for the input.

I would be considering the BMX as an upgrade from Dynastar contact 4x4's
I also have moment ruby 188 (110mm) and 190 DPS 112RP's

I would use the BMX's as the harder-pack/groomer ski. Maybe the MX88 would be better for this than the BMX?

Yeah the MX is probably a better ski for hard-pack and groomer type stuff but I think you'll be happy with whatever you choose, Kastle is making some damn fine skis these days.

I only got about 10 days on them before I got hurt last year and will be writing a full review after I get some more time in, but I can tell you now that I love them! They hold better on hardpack than any other 100mm ski I've been on (previous winner was prophet 100) and the short radius makes them totally controllable no matter how steep and icy it gets.

As to them feeling fragile, I haven't had any durability issues yet. Like I said I've skied them less than a dozen days, but there's no topsheet chipping at all and the wooden sidewalls seem to be holding up well. Let me know if you make it to Jay or North Conway at all this winter and I'll try to get you out on them!

The BC is friendly, so don't be afraid of the length, especially given the long rise.

That said (SPAM ALERT), our Humpback (http://worthskis.com/shape/) built up in the Response core and carbon blend layup is very similar, and comes in a 185. Just sayin'..... :-)

TheDoog, I've got the 180 BC's. I'm 5'10," 180lbs. I like the length for steeps, trees, kick turns and carrying on my back. But I also have 190 Lotus 120's for hauling ass on soft snow. For a resort ski or open faces, I'd choose 190 BC's for sure. Hope that helps a bit.

That said, I'm psyched to try out some Worths, which are being made in the Praxis factory, so you know the construction is top notch, but designed for EC terrain and conditions. Sounds pretty sweet.

What do people think about Kastle BMX88 or FX84 as an everday EC ski?
Both are sweet skis, but FX84 will handle everyday ice and hardpack better, be very nimble in trees where it hasn't snowed in a while, require more instruction (they do what you want, nothing more nothing less). BMX88 will handle soft snow, trees with newer snow, and crud better, will be more forgiving. So depends on what you do everyday...

Alright - I'm calling your bluff. I want to see you in icy SL gates on the Backlashes.

Skiing the Scott Missions in that creamy powder on Halloween made me remember why I have 8 pairs of skis. I was seriously regretting not skiing the R/R powder ski in that stuff. I've found that I really enjoy skiing the most when I have the ski that is made for the conditions I am in. Each pair of skis has it's own niche of conditions that it excels in. Except for the Wailer 105 and 95. They kinda overlap. But that's a long story.

The season I bought my JJs I used them all but the shittiest days of the year at Jay. You can definitely do it, I look at this way

level of masochism/self deception + stoke factor on your new skis= # of "everydays" you are willing to spend on inappropriate skis

hence the reason I expect to get 10-15 "pow"days on my comis this year on the east coast.
