Ok so Galbraith is awesome and I still haven't ridden everything. 5-6 days a week at the same place just kinda gets monotonous. More so in the routine of going there not the riding itself. I road some trails in larrabee that were a good change up but am looking for some more options. I don't really mind painful climbs as long as there is payoff, I ride up and down.

Anyone have any other trails that they like? I am cool with driving a little if I have to. Also if anyone wants to meet up for a ride that doesn't mind a well behaved Boarder Collie let me know. At this point I will meet up people to ride Galbraith if thats all you want to ride. I mean it is convenient and fun. I just need to change it up somehow, including not always riding with just the dog. He is the best riding partner out there and all but not to great at holding a conversation. The GF is to busy with school and teaching to get more than 1 day a week out of her.....

There is some great riding in the Chuckanuts. Best bet is to get a map, ride to the top of Cleator Rd, and hit up double diamond, the ridge, and hush hush into Arroyo Park. The riding on the Lizard and Lily lakes side of Blanchard Mtn. is also great. Anacortes also has some really fun riding around Whistle (http://www.pnt.org/maps/Whistle%20Lake.pdf), Cranberry (http://www.pnt.org/maps/Cranberry%20Lake.pdf), and Heart Lakes (http://www.pnt.org/maps/Heart%20Lake.pdf). They're all Anacortes Community Forest Lands, and get a bit less rain then Bellingham.

Cool, I have a good map of the Chuckanut/Blanchard already. Rode up around lost lake last Thursday. Started up double diamond but but was convinced to go back. We road up the fragrance lake rd, looks like Cleator is the way to do it. Any specific loops over around Blanchard to hit?

Hit me up when you heel. I started switching up parking lots to change the routine. I gotta say I think i like the west parking lot better, I know all the free riders park out samish but SST to the power lines is a great back to car trail. I guess its just to much climbing for the single gear upfront. I dunno I am sure I will find a new trail out near samish tomorrow that will change my mind. It is truly amazing out there no matter which way you go.

I hear yah on that. Is there stuff south of Vancouver thats worth the hop? Im pretty clueless on the area. Vancouver Island sounds/looks pretty dreamy but thats a weekend trip for sure.

well, to be honest, i really just ride DH type stuff, and it sounds like you are into more AM style rides, so I don't know too much about that type of riding up there. Woodlot is doable in just an afternoon from B'ham, and is a little more AM than DH, and a really cool area. I am sure there are others on the board here who can point you in the right direction. There is a lot up there though that could be an easy day trip from the ham.

Yep, the Chuckanuts are definitely your best bet for more in town options besides Galbraith. Also, if you're living in B'Ham and haven't checked out the North Shore you're missing out. Lots of fun to be had on Seymour, Fromme, Cypress - its worth the drive.

SST rules. Bob's is another reeeeeeally fun trail off the Birch street side. So many good trails at Galby, we are so lucky to have it. You just need another gear for the climbs and you'll be set.

I'm looking for people to ride with. I just wrecked a rim on bob's though so I'm out til it gets fixed.

As far as north of the border goes; Ledgeview, Vedder, Sumas Mtn and Bear Mtn are all pretty close to the Sumas border crossing and have some great all mountain riding. My favorites are Vedder and Ledgeview.

check out gutsploder.net for maps.

Figured I should update and say, I see why the the Sammish way lot is so busy. I still kinda like the warm up of coming un from Birch and its much closer to my house. But there is some serious trails on the other side. And lugging a FR bike that far would suck. Got the bike pretty dialed now. Thinking I want a full face, and some more balls.... The snow has come though.... so my free time is beginning to be torn.

lugging freeride bike = more fun on the down + killer legs for the ski season. You don't even notice it after the first week or two. I dropped a 30-40yr old, spandex clad, carbon fiber frame weight weenie on the climb up to the tower on my 45 pound, 7" front and rear freeride bike.

Yeah, I had one of those last week. Past a guy on a top of the line carbon Trek Top Fuel. About 5 minutes later feeling pretty good about myself I get passed by a 60 year old riding a 35+ pound Heckler. I held him but damn I was working. Win some, lose some.

Anyone ridden Galby in the past few days? I'm planning on riding Thursday if the trails are in decent shape. If they're a sloppy mess I'll skip it. I mostly stick to the XC stuff.
