The wife has pretty much given me the ultimatum to either move her back to WA or fuck off forever...looks like I might be moving. Soooo, now I may be searching for employment in/around Bellingham as a hardscape foreman. I'm looking for the best of the best as an employer, or at least someone that aims to be just that. Any info would be helpful...even a company that did work for you and was great all the way through. I figure if I can get my employment at least sort of figured out I will feel a little better about this.

Any Bham maggots out there willing to offer any 411? This is the lowest prospect of living in Bham - jobs. Can't turn back now as the wife starts her job October (why the move is happening) and my house is up for sale here in western NY.

And aside from jobs, any tips for a foreigner from NY aside from:
-bring vitamin D pills in 2000IU's
-wax skis
-invest in 80,000,000mm rain gear
-lock your car
-don't buy a house in Sudden Valley
-etc. etc. etc.?

Bellingham, is actually a great place to live. You have baker, one of the best mountains in the PNW IMO.

I am not sure what to tell you neighborhood wise, as I am poor and rent a dirtbag apartment, and I have only been here 6-7 months... although.. the Sudden Valley side of the lake is on the north slope, and its shady and damp and cold, the other side of the lake is sunnier... I like the area around the lake, over by Lake Padden, too.. thats probably where I would live if I had the means... There is also Lynden, where I work, and it is a cute small town, 20-30 minutes from Bham proper, but is much more conservative, and very agricultural.. lots of dairies, and they smell.. well, country... Have you ever seen a shit fountain?

If you want me to drive by something and give a neighborhood impression, I could do that...

The sunshines here more than the locals like to admit.. but there are endless seeming days of grey, so vitamin D is a good idea.

We still have a lot of snow.. you really can ski well into the summer here, and it isn't patch skiing...

I generally go to Fairhaven Bike and Ski for ski needs, but Backcountry Essentials is good, too, and they have a cooler with an awesome selection of beer in cans for easy packing...

I don't think crime is too terrible here, there are lots of police cars roaming around... I once accidentally left the backdoor of my apartment unlocked for about a month.. oops..

Oh hell yes. I'm in total dairy country (or maybe it would be corn country now) out here in the Ohio-ish part of NY. I've been trying to keep an eye out for places for sale in all the towns north of Bellingham, including Custer, Ferndale, Everson, etc. However I doubt we'd be able to buy until after renting something for awhile.

Thanks for all and any info mtngirl. I'll take any I can get as the move comes this October. I've got a general idea of the neighborhoods and how to get around. I'll vouch for Fairhaven Bike and Ski being great and will also gives props to Scott's Ski Service in Glacier, planning to use his skills as much as I can on the way to and from Baker (if I can scrape lift ticket / gas $$ together). As for jobs, I guess I'm looking for manufacturing type shit or automotive type openings. I work in an automotive job here that really doesn't exist so much there - auctions, audit services, and internet vehicle remarketing. I see having to sort of re-invent myself for something relying on past experience managing a warehouse (read: babysitting ghetto-tastic winners) or food service (getting killed working family unfriendly hours). Both I haven't done in quite a long time. I guess all I can say is what I do not want to do - sales and retail, I suck at both. I have to get my head around there not being a huge amount of job creating industry in Bellingham. Its gonna be fun..... real fuckin fun initially. Seriously though, I'm looking forward to everything about the place except for what to do for work.
