192 zealot at +2cm, Tip dive problems?

for the most part it seems a lot of you guys are happy with your zealots at +2 cm mounting point. do you experience tip dive with this being 2cm forward of boot center? i even saw a guy who said he wish he went further than his +2.25cm mounting point.

I'm not sure what wrong with this ski, but it's not right. I'm not super stoked on it only good at balls out speed 45+mph and not so hot for trees and technical steeps

Which Zealot are you talking about - the 09/10 is a different ski. The tip rocker may change where you want to mount.

I'm usually a strict by the line guy anyway...

Mine were mounted telemark boot center at -2cm. So if we do the very scientific telemark to alpine adjustment (move mount forward 2 cm) then let's call my mount at 0. :rolleyes: I really liked them there. No tip dive, was able to pressure the tips, and no backseat driving. I dunno if any of that helps though... IMO +2 might be a bit forward on that ski, but what do I know.

thanks for the info. im still waiting to mount to see if i can mount them with the metal inserts that have been seen on other threads.

This is good to know. I just picked up a new pair of last year's 192 Zealots and I have been trying to decide where to mount.

Exactly. It's wicked super high tech. it's more of a "conversion" than a conversion. These days one of the more common ways to mount skis for telemark setups is to go boot center 1-3 cm back of alpine boot center. It works very well. The "conversion" just sort of takes into consideration the changes in weighting that are associated with the telemark turn. But if I were to mount them alpine I'd go 0.

Here is what I found from Black Diamond about mounting.

For the 192 they reccomend boot center at 832mm from the tail. This a bit strange though as the +2 line marked on the ski is 832mm from the tail, whereas 0 is marked at 812mm.

I emailed BD to confirm and will post back when I hear from them.

Here's what BD had to say in their email reply:

"A little history to fill in the blanks:

-First generation Zealots (from the 07/08 season) had one alpine boot center mount-point etched into the topsheet, along with a “+2cm” mark in the topsheet graphic

-Second generation Zealots (from the 08/09 season) had two lines etched into the topsheet; one at the recommended alpine boot center mount point, and another at the +2cm point

So, it sounds like you’ve got first gen Zealots, if you’ve only got the single etched line and then the +2cm point on the topsheet. The only difference between the 07/08 Zealots and the 08/09 Zealots was that the 08/09’s had two etched lines, instead of one (like you explain you’ve got).

Long story short, the third generation Zealots (green topsheet – this year’s) have the mid-boot mark located at 832mm….or what lines up to be the +2cm point on your particular Zealots, Chris. I’d have to recommend marking the mid-boot mark here, at 832mm, as we actually found the ski rides better when mounted at this point (hence the singular etched line at 832mm on the current Zealots).

You’ll have a much more aggressive stance over those beasts at that mount point and won’t feel like the skis are running away from you coming out of turns. Enjoy!"

Edit: Here is what they said about tip dive:

I can’t think of anyone noting tip dive in pow when mounting them at the 832mm mid-boot mark. We wouldn’t be recommending it if that were an issue.
