2 of us... I spend tons of time bargain hunting - for example the 189 SPs ended up being under $200 (drilled once, never skied). :D And we have a tendency to never get rid of anything - the G41s and one pair of AK Rockets are missing feet of edge each - somehow I keep thinking I might need fat true rock skis for an early powder day. And the X-screams still exist for icy night skiing at Brighton - like once a year.

Hey Keoni we have the same boots! I got mine on ebay last spring for $125. I also have some S-flex titleists. The 962s the first year they made them. I got them for $150 from a pro at a country club I worked at.

Any plans on fixing them? I usually try to take on a few projects in the winter to waste time when it's dark out and might be willing to trade for beer?????

Yea those boots are pretty comfy, didn't put the extra wedge on the tongue(my shins thank me so far). Those are the orig. DCI's, I paid WAAAAAY too much about 5(?) years ago. Also missing is my Ping ISI Ti driver, ($400 of over-priced crap IMO)

I think there are a few more pairs in the rafters. All those skis belong to five (or more?) people, some are for sale, some are complete trash, but for the time being they're all under the same roof, and for the rest of the winter at least one pair will be on the snow every day.
you'd think the ghost would've arranged them a little nicer.

Pretty much all there, the gf's skis being the two pair on the left side (1080s and tele-rigged Heads). Incurable romantic that I am, I actually just got her some Atomic Beta Powder Rides (not pictured) for Valentine's Day- but now I feel emasculated because she has fatter boards than I do. Oh well, I can solve that problem the way I solve all my others...Hookers, blow, and buying more skis.

2004 Head Mad_trix Mojo w/ Look P14s (186) - brand fucking new, skied never. Got the last pair in that length for sale in Washington state for at leas a month. Getting mounted as we speak. I'm riding them Wednesday.

Ulty, they're 175, moderate flex surreals with last years naxo's (you've got some haven't you?). They're an excellent powder and touring ski but if it's chopped up or heavy they get knocked around a bit because they're so light so you need to be on top of them. Mulletizer did a spot on review a while back. My only real gripes are I got them 10cm too short and the topsheet marks easily but the DB boys are doing something about that (1st class service from those guys the whole time). And I prefer the naxo's to freerides but that's another thread.
The Stocklis.........well these puppies rip in absolutely everything. You hoon it down anything (except bumps) in any conditions and you feel like you're on rails. That's really all I can say about them. I don't need anymore skis, it's that simple. :)
And Dipstik yeah, it's a rowing machine (concept 2)....keeps me in shape. Can we have your old avatar back please?

I'm a late comer to the quiver thread.
I know it's contrary to the popular notion of more is better; but, I'm trying to keep my day-to-day quiver at two, maybe three, pair of skis.

My dads ~1984 rando rig converted ot my tele rig back in `92.
At the time I was laughed at for skiing such "wide" tele skis. Actually they whooped the ass of any other tele skis available at the time...
Also in the quiver but not in use.
187 X-Scream 2 w/Rottefella Riva 1
178 1080 Ex-rentals with no more base, edges nor base. Complimentary skis from the shop when I bought my Explosives. As I was a bit worried about how a pair of 190 Exploders w/ Race bindings would handle in the park the very cool guys at Snell in Chamonix gave me a pair if their old demo 1080. Shot to shite and with worn rental bindings, but still a grand gesture.Props to them!
Quiver plan for next season include getting some Legend Pro 186`s for the ZR bindings, turning the Explosives to a tele rig and most likely ditching the Gotamas.

I'm thinking rossi exaggerates their lengths a little bit. Those concepts dont look 6cm shorter than the bandits, and those xxx are definately not 7cm longer than the k2s.

photoshop gurus can do just about anything.
i only know about 25% of the features, but to me, its fundamental power is its ability to manipulate multiple layers of an image separately.
my favorite steps were... varying brightness along the tips/tails of drugged monkey's topsheet to "bend" them up, shading it to match the white skis of twoplanker's photo, and softening sharp borders at the pixel level.
Jackamo, feel free to PM me for photoshop details. "Good artists create. Great artists steal." ;)

Also, you mean Stöcklis like these ?

Definately agree that the sizing is off! I'm still thinking of getting a pair of 158cm Dynaster InBigs but was worried that they would be too much of a ski for me . However now I am not so unsure after comparing sizes, especially after seeing those 160cm Rossi's you where on the other week.

Honestly I haven't telemarked on the Surreal. Those skis were mounted up for a summertime ski test by DB with some of my bindings, and for mysterious reasons the skis are now left at my place. I believe Glisseur will be able to explain pretty soon; they're his skis....
Just noticed that they were in the pic and I am really curious to hear feedback from someone who teles on them. All the skis I have are pretty heavy, and not much fun on the way up. Thanks though.

Get some Tabla's with telebinders, they're almost the same weight and lighter than most other stuff. The Surreals were rumoured to be a tad flimsy with this mount; and they are just a different ski from the TR. The TR's in the pic with Solly 916s are noticably lighter than the Salomonized BDs and way lighter than the 05 BDs with Atomic1018s (which again are noticably lighter than the 04 BD with the same binders and Atomic plates).
Though it's no secret that I'm under the Atomic umbrella I'll most likely also be owning a pair of TRs or two eventually.
Glisseur

I do mind you asking as I'd rather keep my telemarking a well kept secret (that means don't tell Hop for Christ's sake), but I have to admit I sold out completely this summer and actually telemarked on them.
They work fine but it's a pretty weird feeling at first since they're so incredibly lightweight when mounted with a tele binder, Rottefella R8 in this case. They're still super stable at speeds as on alpine and turn well but tend to get bashed around some more thanx to their light weight, there's a big chance this had something to do with my pretty crappy technique as it was my first time teleing in eight years. Don't know if my weight positioning was the best which might have caused some general instability issues. But hey, I guess that word sums up telemarking anyway :) Touring on them was a blast though as you might guess. I mounted them pretty much as I would on alpine which I would recommend most other people to do as well to get most out of the ski.
The only problem I encountered was that the tail is kinda on the soft side on last years model (these are the stiff flex btw) which makes putting a lot of pressure on the tails when youre cranking big surfing turns pretty interesting. I know for a fact that this years model will feature a relatively stiffer tail so that will partly solve that but you might want to bump up the stiffness of the tail a little bit.
I see. Sounds like I may have to drop some coin before the snow starts to fall. LIghtweight skis are so hot right now.
Tabla's maybe be a bit too wide, as I live on the skating rink known as the East coast. They still look tempting.

- 190 Iggy FFL, 250 flex. Pre- and post-season bushwhacking, and occaisional use. Really only good in light dry pow, not so good in wet cascade concrete.
- 195 Rossi Viper Z. Icy-day ski, edges in blinging shape and I bust this out when it hasn't snowed in a long time.
- 204 K2 Morrison. The first ski purchase I ever made, pretty much retired now. Won't sell them as I won't get any money for them, so might as well put them on the wall and occaisionally ski them for fun.
- 189 K2 Kahuna. DEEP-day ski. Handles wet cascade snow quite well.
- 179 K2 Seth Pistol. Everyday use.
still to buy - a pair of cheap, thrasher jib skis, the 189 04-05 pistol, and a BC ski. then I'll be done.

JK, Kinda suprised you didn't mount up the Linkens or Bombers on the Gotama's. How did you like the Gotama's for tele? Why you thinking of switching the tele rig to the Explosiv's?
I skied Linkens for 3 seasons, no matter how I tuned/tweaked/cranked those suckers they kept falling off whenever I landed something big. Also quite a few pairs blew up on me.
The latest production year seems to be holding up fine though, the bindings in the pic are my girlfriends they are from the latest production line as has held up fine for the most of last season. She got them as a replacement after she blew up a pair. Her last Linkens, aswell as mine and four of my friends pairs came apart at the toebox.(Supposedly that is corrected now and I havent seen it happen to any of the newer pairs) And finally I like to be able to tighten the bindings to get higher heel retention. No matter how tight you adjust Linken bindings you still won`t get the same resistance as a tight pair of R8`s. Never tried Bombers, might have to check them out this year, damn expensive in my neck of the woods though...
The Gotamas are sweet teleskis as long as the snow is soft and consistent. Even has a fairly good grip on firmer snow, considering their dimensions. When the going gets tougher, I find them a bit soft. In packed snow, windcrust and generally variable snow the ski feels too soft to me. While it floats great, the softness makes the ski deflect a lot when hitting harder snow, and sometimes the ski flexes so hard that it tends to throw you over the handlebar, a problem I also felt when skiing PR`s on tele (and generally a bigger problem on a softer telerigs due to the loose heels).
In short I do not like the feeling of the ski beeing the factor that keeps me from going as fast/hard as I can.
So this year I am putting the telebindings on the Explosives, a much stiffer ski with mach speed and variable snow abitlities far superior of the Gotamas (which I have already sold). I have not demoed this years Gotama on tele, they might be a bit better as I hear that they have added a layer of metal to them to stiffen them up.

What up with the tip/tail protectors and rivets? Did they delam on you or is it just a precaution?
And where are the stoppers?
I just got a pair myself, I`m really stoked on them
Would like to know if there are delam issues with them though. I know dudele has delammed a pair, but that guy breaks Explosives on a regular basis so he kind of doesn`t count.

I just picked em up about a week ago. I hadn't seen them w/ the protectors/rivets, but i don't mind. I'm not usually a gear killer, so I'm not worried...but I'd rather have them be on the safe side and not deal w/ warrenty issues later.
Didn't have any fat brakes when i mounted them...should be getting them today.

That ski rocks, big time. Super solid, incredibly fast, and it can carve like nothing else (except for the RC4). That's my favorite of the bunch.

SkiEast - How do you find your Explosivs complementing your Gotamas? Do they do things differently, or are they pretty similar?
Honestly I mostly use the 188 G4's, if theres any powder at all the Gotamas get the call. I found the explosivs a bit much one the various icy w/b runouts, once I tried the Gotamas I couldn't go back.
As far as differences I'm not technical enough to really articulate them. I do a lot of steep tree skiing and the explosivs weren't ideal there (big understatement).

Ha....great ski indeed. They turn like a dream for being so long :) Even took them out earlier this year. Back in the day, I snapped one pair in half, and found a RD rep trying to get rid a pair of 222 and 217. $400. Mounted the 217 pair for my dad, who is 6-7', and he skied the groomers on them for years.
We still have that mint pair of the 217 cm version that my dad used to cruise Heavenly...they have the old Salomon greenish-yellow riser plate mounted for 12ish size boot. PM me if need be.

yooper, which ski area?
I learned to ski at Marquette Mountain.
http://www.biglines.com/photos/blpic33287.jpg
Dynastar Omeglass WC 165 / P18s
Dynastar Course WC 181 / P18s
Dynastar Legend 8800 188 / P15s
Dynastar Legend Pro 186 / P14s (soon to be ZRs)
Stockli Asteroid / Freerides
I think I need to add a more managable touring ski (178 Dynastar 8800), a GS ski that has intact edges (182 Dynastar Course Comp) and a ski for hardpack (184 Dynastar 8000). Then I'd be set.
Dressing room at the ski area. Gear for 4 people.http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-11/471043/OTOOX-DSC00464.JPG
So...many...Markers...please make it stop.

Yep, they are beutiful, and they rock on the piste.... Can carve tight turns very easy. They are Race flex, so they arent that versatile.
But now almost all of my skiing is off-piste, so they dont see much use.
Will try to sell them to help against a Soft BRO

why is the mounting point further back on the Sanook compared to the B3 for what appears to be the same size ski??

Both are the std mounting pt for the ski. So, maybe someone from volkl would explain the reason.
All I know is that the Sanouk seems perfect for me. I heart tree skiing. The sanouk rocks in the trees and does fine with big turns in open spaces.
The Rossis are B4 (not B3). I guess for mrkting reasons or being too cheap Rossi used the B3 graphic.
I only have a couple days on the B4s and I'm thinking about moving the mounting forward. I was warned they need to be broken in so need to few more days on them before any changes.

its the Franco-Prussian debate all over again
for reasons beyond my comprehension(it was explained somewhere on the intraweb) French ski companies ie Dyanstar, Salomon, Rossi have there mounting points further forward vs the more rearward mounting points of Austrian-German ski companies ie Volkl and Atomic. I think it has something to do with ball of foot vs boot center but I'm not sure
Quiver update.

my ever evolving quiver...
http://www.biglines.com/photos/blpic37627.jpg
Skis (left to right):
Old K2 Enemas (sold to a friend...who seems not want to come and pick them up in this winter...:) )
Brand new K2 Seth Pistols, 189cm, with Solly 914s (mounted 2cm forward, my new do-everything-allaround ski)
Head Monster Im 103, 193 cm 02/03 model. Just sold those too. I had to take the picture before giving them up...it was a love/hate relationship...great skis, just a tad too stiff for me
K2 Explorers (-99 model) with Riva Z:s(?)...crappy skis but so am I at tele.
Boards (l to r):
Hammer Pulp Series 163cm, -99? model. I remember it having great flex and pop. Heavy by today's standards though. haven't use it for couple of years.
Wife's Burton Feelgood (Victoria Jealouse's model) 159cm, women's freeride board. Seems pretty good (haven't tested though)
Old Burton Supermodel, -98? model. This was my pow gun for Epic February of -99 in verbier. I've totally killed that board but it has some memory value, I should get it hangin' on the wall or something...
Behind the skis is the toy for summertime fun: Rocky Mountain Switch Ltd
Missing: Head Mojo 80's 181cm 05/06 model that I should have got for the spring...still waiting for those to arrive
Pistols might get freerides next year if I have the money to buy Gotamas...or then, on the other hand, Gotamas with freerides, hmmmmm...:)
