I have been in El Salvador for a couple of days with the wife and kid.
So taking Taxis is going to drain the bank real quick. Public transportation won't cut it either. Some can be super sketchy and I could spend all day riding the bus to get a couple of things done.
We would like something pretty fuel efficient for the city but 4WD for the country side. We would like to spend ~$2000 so our choices are limited. Im thinking along the lines of a mid 80s Tercel with 4WD (http://www.mundoanuncio.com/anuncio/en_venta_toyota_tercel_x_1177133134.html)
On the plus side you still see quite a few around as taxis so someone has to know how to work on them and find parts. The ground clearance may be a little low, no? Also that one is in Soyapango, where little Johnny M from Long Island shouldn't hang out.
The other option seems to be a similar vintage suby. (http://www.mundoanuncio.com/anuncio/vendo_caminoneta_subaru_1176746594.html) or this. (http://www.mundoanuncio.com/anuncio/subaru_x_camioneta_ptas_ano_full_extras_1176447397 .html)
I'd be a fool to consider this (http://www.mundoanuncio.com/anuncio/ganga_vendo_microbus_subaru_e_en_muy_buenas_condic iones_1177112169.html), right? It would be kind of kool though. Drop the wife and kid off at their schools then pick up fares as a gypsy cab.
One the plus side its a Suby and the second one is very simular to the one that I learned what my special purpose was. Don't see as many around but I have not made it out of the city yet so my sample may be skewed.
Anything I am not seeing? Other cars to consider? Anyone want to come surf?
