View Full Version : Recommend me a pow ski

Hello,guyz!
I am a long time lurker on this forum and I finally decided to complete the registration. At the moment I am in search of pow specific skis and while this might seem an easy task I have to make some tough decisions.
From what I have seen there are in general two types of pow skis - 1. the skis which are better suited for centered/back stance and 2. the skis which encourage to aggressively drive the tips in powder.
I have some easy racing background and a lot of carving background and would characterize my skiing technique preference as driving the tips in forward to slightly centered stance.
Which ski would you recommend to me in this case? I'm 5'11'', 180 lbs., not a hucker, skiing 179 Obsethed but not liking them due to the blah feel.
That is all, thanks.

Hey JONG, nice thread. Personally, I would highly recommend these...

Oh well, sir, I am just so hesitant to say this, sir, but I have to....
FUCK YOU!!!
PS: you're not allowed to call anybody a JONG if your postcount is 88
PPS: my question actually doesn't seem that stupid to me
At first I was really interested in DPS Lotus 138 and having read all those rave reviews I have almost made a purchase. But then I suddenly realized that the 138 might very likely require centered stance and will not encourage me to load the tips the way I love.
The Salomon Rocker's seem to be the right answer to me but they are heavy and less then playful.
So I am just trying to find some compromise.

Delete this thread before eveyone starts waking up and flaming you. Then use the search funtion to answer your own question. I would think as a long time lurker you would have known this. I realize your question may seem unique to you, but its still pretty generic to most of us here.

Oh, shit! I'll better use the PM function.
The only please - try to bash this thread in a more inventive way. Reading the neverending JONG comments feels boring.

Blah Blah, i will tell you matey that this a boring thread. These types of what boot, what ski questions get asked about three times a day. Use the search bar, read the review sticky at the top of the page, use your lurker head....
And yes sir i may call you a JONG because you surely are one.

You are extremely obnoxious fellow.
Instead of waisting your time on posting useless pictures and crappy writings you could have written just 7-10 words of good advice that would be very highly appreciated by me, but I realize you don't care.
I wish you have the deepest blower powder day of your life on the skis from your first post. Or even better, you'll be skiing on those skis in 4' of sierra cement in tight trees.:the_finge

At $499 pre-sale they are a steal and you would be supporting a much respected dude from the TGR community.
Im not buying them though because i cant justify a 9th ski in my quiver.
Happy now, welcome to TGR.:p

138s and 120s from dps are very much a shovel driving carving pow skis. much more so than most pow skis.

I am bored so here is what I would be looking at if I needed pow skis.

http://praxisskis.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=61&category_id=1&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=29
Both look really fun and are on sale for a limited time.
This could have been easily found with about 10 minutes of searching for "Which Pow Skis".
BTW, I have 10 pounds on you and use a 190 or 195 ski on pow days. Maybe that is part of the problem with the 179's you have.

Thanks, I know well before, you are not that bad you pretended to be!
snoweater easy racing background means not a FIS comp skier but national level one. Carving background - you got it right my friend.

Take it easy everyone. If you don't like his question, save the comments and move on to another thread. Maybe first start by asking yourself what you don't like about the Obsethed you are on. Is it too soft? Not long enough? Unstable? If you can decide what exactly you don't like, it is easier to recommend something else. I personally don't have any experience on rockered skis or any of the "fun shapes." My position is that rockered skis are changing how manufactures build powder skis, and they are not some fad. Rockered skis are the current, and future for fun in the deep. OTOH, there has to be a trade off somewhere. I am on traditionally shaped fat skis, and they suit my needs well. I can use them everyday and I don't have to break the bank by owning 3 pairs for certain conditions. I guess it's all priorities and how well you ski too. I understand rockered skis allow great skiers to ski that much faster and effortlessly than they could before, and help avg skiers ski more aggresively and easier than before. I have skied many years and ski as fast and effortlessly (or faster) than the guys who I ski with that are on rockered skis. The point is, it seems many put too much thought into the gear, when in reality all skis are made extremely well these days (I have never disliked skiing on any of the newer....say last 5 years skis by any manufacturer, liked some better than others, but never said, "wow this ski sucks") and if you have really good technique the skis only get you so far.

Take a look at the praxis protest, they are on presale right now and they are what I would be skiing if I had the money this year for new pow skis.

so you wanna buy the ipod? $150 no songs, $200 loaded with songs!!
I wouldn't buy a Billy Goat as a charging, "drive the tips" type ski. Buy Wrenegades and mount -10.
If you want to spend twice that amount either of the Lotus 120 or 138 would be excellent choices.
