anyone ever take apart an spd style pedal and put it back together again? I got the bright idea that it would be cool to color match an spd pedal to a bike. I'm planning down the road for a touring bike that I am going to have powder coated. I took apart my wellgo pd-800 to see how complicated it is before I buy a set of SPDs and do it to them.
well long story short I can't put the spring mechanism back together. anyone ever done this or have any advice beside don't be an idiot?
thanks
I still think color matched SPD pedals would look damn good

I've heard of it being really really hard to put back together after you mess up and back the screw out too far when adjusting the tension, so you may be up shit creek.

I'm kinda hooked on the idea of color matching and powder coating its pretty addictive. I guess i'll give it a few more tries

i needed a replacement piece from Shimano for one of their new XT Spds. It was the "chrome" cleat seat on the side that attaches to the spring. Shimano sent me a schematic so I could identify the part to their tech support. Basically, I needed a whole new pedal as that piece, the spring and the pedal body are clearly, according to the schematic, not something that is to be disassembled and reassembled since they do not break it down into separate pieces.
Although it would appear possible to disassemble when looking at the pedal...
Jeez man. Black or silver are fine and if you're riding they should get pretty messed up cosmetically anyway. Plus, you can't see the little things under your shoes anyway. Go ride. Color matched SPD's :nonono2: you were going white, weren't you?

I've put mtn SPD's back together a couple of times, but it's been a few years since I've done it.
I can't remember one certain technique that would help you, other than; it can be done, it was a bit of a struggle, and took patience.

I've taken an SPD apart before, it was NOT easy to put back together, but I got it with a litle patience

I'm sure this wasn't posted as a joke, but I find this thread comical.
1) you took apart your pedals merely to paint them to match your frame. ghey. uber-ghey. pure poseurville.
2) you didn't bother paying attention to how the pedals came apart, now you can't put them back together. dumb. ultra-dumb. idiotic, even.
3) you posted this on a forum. that's where the comedy comes in.
