1. Where are you coming from? LA
2. What dates will you be here? hopefully 4 day weekend
3. Do you need lodging and where is preferable? yah a couch/floor/dog bed/tarp/hut/leanto/tree fort close to LCC!!!!
4. Do you ski or board? (Thinking of Alta) ski
5. Are you going to bring a big snow storm with you?? all praises to jahbuddahchristullrallah and I refuse to answer this!

man i wanna make it happen.

it willl be just as i'm cleared for skiing activity, i just don't know how many consecutive days i'll be able to ski.

any one with 'first month back from acl reconstruction' experience i'd like your imput to weather or not i could ski four or five days in a row?

if my knee is fairly bomber i will be flyng from- boston
-there for four or five days
-in need of a couch or a closet or a rug
-ski
-i can commit to bringing the pain hardcore from the brain, but thats about it.

1. Where are you coming from? The Grand Ole Opry
2. What dates will you be here? Skiing 12/17-19
3. Do you need lodging and where is preferable? Yes, wherever it's cheapest, or free
4. Do you ski or board? (Thinking of Alta) Yeah, right!
5. Are you going to bring a big snow storm with you?? Same as last year

Edit: For basom, When was your surgery? (I don't wanna search for it.) My first time out it my knee was bomber, but that was 11 months post-op. You'll probably notice that it will fatigue more quickly on you than before for the first season back. I had more problems mentally the first season than I did physically. Get you one of those 8x12 icepacks with the velcro straps, it'll be a lifesaver.

4 days of skiing, ice stops, lots of Advil, rest stops (I will gladly sit with you and have a beer) and taking it easy. At Hood, my wife "grounded" me, no air she said. You will have grounded status too and mandatory rest stops to make it thru I would think.

Heal up and see what you can do. Worst comes to worse, you hang with a bunch of us it it gets too much a party like a rockstar.

I did it the first year, no riding but you all got me damn freaking drunk in GMD all day.

People do tend to come in early after ringing there bell a few times, so plan on making it for some easy skiing and maggot comraderie (sp?).

To add to that, The Best Western in Sandy is where a ton of you stayed last year and heard nothing but good reports.

Ask Woodsy about Solitude accomodations too, I hear he has connections. ;)

Check the links from last years threads to get more info too. If you do not find what you need, post here or PM me or email me.

I do have a guest bedroom with a queen bed. Will allow certain maggots to stay with me, as the wife will be rather pregnant at that time. Now, I am about an hour north of the LCC and BCC areas, but 25 minutes to Snowbasin.

Also, if there is any interest in a bc day (condition dependant) may be into helping plan something.

For lodging thats still close I also reccomend the Country Inn and Suites. Huge rooms around $60 a night, pool, hot tub, free booze hour M-TH. On 10600 S just off I-15.

Family stayed there during my wedding and it was a great property at a pretty sweet price for what you get. Plus free shuttles within a five mile radius.

I've got no couch space this time, but will shuttle and assist in any other way I can.

Red Baron, make it happen my man!!

AC, can you start a list in here of the people coming and when they plan to be here and what they need (lodging)? This helps all to coordinate rides, lodging, getting drunk on the plane with a random maggot,........

Actually, I will start it if you can help edit more in. I will get to it soon.

PM coming.

3. I would be eternally grateful for lodging anywhere cheap! Can good beer be brought into Utah via an airplane? If it can be, I'll be bringin' some!
4. Ski, damnit!

1. Flying from NYC
2. Arriving 16th leaving evening of 19th
3. Need lodging cheap is good free si better. Will sleep on floor.
4. Ski (I'll be the guy with the bromodels)
5. Will you settle for a Nor'easter

1. Sacramento, CA. Plane flights are currently cheap, at $184 round trip to SLC. I may have to solidify the deal and buy soon.

2. The night of the 16th through the night of the 19th.

3. Yes, and CHEAP is preferable. I'll probably splurge one night with the manfriend. But I'm a low maintenance kinda gal, and very respectful of space, so if you have floor space, I'll like you forever and return the favor, or bear gifts of high-alcohol content beer or Napa Valley wines, or possibly some CA cuisine.

4. Ski, naturally.

5. You betcha. I'm also going to bring some strippers with me and a couple of porn stars.

BUZZ - thank you so much for organizing!! :)

Won't know for sure until early ski season, but right now it looks good for my first (mini)summit experience.

1. Where are you coming from?
Cowtown, AB, Canada
2. What dates will you be here?
Depends of whether I drive or fly. But mostly likely 15th-18th.
3. Do you need lodging and where is preferable?
Yes. Cheap is good, but I snore like an atomic band saw, so people should keep that in mind before offering their hospitality.
4. Do you ski or board? (Thinking of Alta)
Board mostly, but willing to school all the fulltime skiers if Alta is on the agenda.
5. Are you going to bring a big snow storm with you??
I'm from the Canadian Rockies - we have no snow storms to spare. (Which is why I am keen on Utah.)

Heading out now to buy lotto ticket and ensure my attendance.

I'm a last minute type of person, but these dates work out very well with my work schedule. Our students finish a few days before, so work should not be an obstacle.

Coming from CO
Will need space to crash---location doesn't matter, but GT's hospitality was above and beyond last year.
Won't be bringing any snow because you all steal it from us Coloraggots:D
I'm shooting for December 16-19

Depending on my work (currently unknown) I can help shuttle, but may not be able to host. If anybody has questions about the area i can do some leg work for you. I was also wondering how to get hooked up with a PM gear sticker. I saw last year someone brought a few to sell, but if us newbies can get em earlier that would be good too.

I would really like to go, and will be bringing the husband and Sprout in tow!

If we could shack up in an extra room or a couch that would be cool...otherwise I will drum up a cheap hotel.

I don't want to impose though b/c I'm bringing my kid (he's 10). But it would be very cool to shack up w/ a maggot who has some xtra crashing space and little kids so my little guy has somebody to ski/hang out with.

Like I said though, it's a lot to put up a whole family and I don't want to impose. But if anyone thinks they are up for it just PM me. Otherwise, hotel advice is appreciated. :)

Now for my succinct answers:

1. Coming from Connecticut
2. Dates: 12/16-19
3. Need lodging & cheap/kid-friendly is good
4. I ski and so does my kid, but husband is a knuckledragger
5. I have never skiied deep powder, so I think this will be my de-flowering experience. Yes we are bringing tons of snow!

Thankies!

I'm about 80% sure as of right now.

1.) Coming from L.A.
2.)Shooting for 17th through the 20th - at least three days of skiing.
3.) No lodging yet, but I'll take Altachic up on her offer. I can't cook, but I can scrub the hell out of pots and pans!
4.) Not even going to bring my board. Bro Models for sho'.
5.) I'll bring a big storm if someone can bring me some stronger legs.

Last year was such a blast, I can't imagine missing the Utah Mini this year.

I was one of those who stayed at the Best Western in Sandy, and it was very nice. Breakfast every morning, close to everything, right on the bus routes, and not too expensive.

No offense to many Konkanee drinkers, but it tastes not a whole lot different than Natural Light to me and Natty Light is a hell of a lot cheaper.

I prefer Pale Ales, with a bit of bitey flavor (hops) and a good color. IE, Seirra Nevada Pale Ale, Bass, Mirror Pond Pale Ale by Deuschuttes Brewery in Oregon, ...... them kinds of beers.

Any beer will be much appreciated regardless. :D

Sponsored, very nice testimonial, looking forward to riding with you again!

It might just be a sentimental thing, but I got attatched to Molson Canadian when our '76 Capri (this was 1988 and we were poor college students) ran out of gas a mile or two before Invermere (sp?) at 2AM driving to the Calgary Olympics. We had two cases of Buckhorn, a half rack of Shafer Light, and for some reason, I'd bought a sixer of Molson (big spend in the collegiate days) when we'd crossed the border (thats before getting lost in a drunken haze).

Was saving the Molsons for whatever when the car ran out of petrol. We stepped out of the car to get walk into town for gas (moot point since everything would have been closed we were later told), several greasy, mangy, large elkhound looking things trotted out of the brush and up to us. Basically, in mutt terminology told us to get back in the car or they'd make sure our fibulas looked like the remanents of a bucket of KFC drumsticks after a summer picnic. The fackers then decided that we weren't leaving the car all night.

Anyhow, the three other poor bastids were stuck with the collective swill brought from Pullman while I, at least, enjoyed drinking my "exotic" foriegn brew. Bottles, in addition, were much nicer to piss in than the cans...since our four legged hosts weren't keen on letting us out. Turned out they lived at a house about 100 yards up the road and didn't want any visitors early AM.

Haven't touched a Molson since...please bring some, the ones with the geese/ducks on them. We just can't get the ones with the friggin geese on them here...that taste the same. Even if it is the Canadian version of swill.

OK back to my cheap 1.5 litre of Merlot.

On with mini discussion

Sorry about hijack.

1. Where are you coming from? My house
2. What dates will you be here? All
3. Do you need lodging and where is preferable? See number 1 above
4. Do you ski or board? (Thinking of Alta) Both, but I'm a hack on the single plank - I wouldn't dream of boarding with anyone in this group.
5. Are you going to bring a big snow storm with you?? Red Baron has us covered, thank you.

I hope some people have the luck with bringing storms, because my dad and I are notorious throughout ski country for bringing either high pressure or skyrocketing freezing levels. We are so due for a big week.[antijinx]

Duct, and others coming from major cities - be sure to check Southwest Airlines Vacations (http://book.swavacations.com) because in my preliminary browsing today I found that I could go on the 16th, stay 3 nights, and pay $274 ALL IN - air and hotel (Park City Best Western). For a few extra bucks, you can make it a ski package and they throw in the car and interchangeable lift tix.

Last time I went to Utah, I booked through Southwest's Vacations and it all worked out perfectly - SUV, hotel, air and 3 days lift tix for $400. They don't have their ski package stuff together yet, but they do this every year.

I'm a maybe, Buzz. Depends on work, I may be in Baltimore, will keep you posted.

I plan to fly in from Seattle if conditions are good. Prolly fly in Friday night and fly out Sunday evening. Floor space would be great since my flight will likely be expensive if I make it. My last and only time at Alta I was essentially skiing on one leg. Can't wait to experience it healthy.

2. Don't know yet. Due to the Euro trip last month, I'm out of vacation days for the rest of 2004.
3. If my wife doesn't kick me out of the house before then I'll still have lodging...

1. Where are you coming from? Seattle
2. What dates will you be here? I'd probably be in for Friday-Sunday.
3. Do you need lodging and where is preferable? Yes. Somewhere convenient. Might be looking for someone to share. GMD would be great, but maybe too expensive, not sure.
4. Do you ski or board? (Thinking of Alta) Ski
5. Are you going to bring a big snow storm with you?? :D
Of course.

I've never skied in Utah and maybe this is the time! There's a Delta flight that gets into SLC at 9:10 am which would work great.

I'd say my probability is around 50% right now.

Anyone who's interested in sharing a room at the GMD let me know. I see "low season" is through 12/22, so the prices aren't bad. The four bed dorm room would be very cheap split four ways--especially when you consider breakfast and dinner are included. The rooms are $108, so probably under $30 per person per night after taxes.

I think those rooms at the GMD are $108 per person not for the whole room. And make sure you check on the service charge and taxes, those 2 items add up to roughly 25%. I've never stayed at the GMD so I could be wrong, but thats the way the other lodges at Alta work.

I think you're right. Their website isn't real clear, but this makes sense in relation to their other rates. I figured $30/night was way to good to be true! So it's probably more like $125 per night or a little more. That puts it out of my price range, I'd say :(

But there are definitely cheap rooms to be had here & there. I think the Best Western is not too expensive, and lumpy mentioned a cheap option that sounded pretty good. Also, priceline might yield a good result.

The Best Western is $78 per night for a room with two queen beds. That's not bad.

EDIT: this is for the CottonTree in Sandy. I see there's also a Best Western Executive Inn with a SLC address. Which one is a better location for access to skiing?

And I see Buzz' thread now with lots of links. Thanks Buzz...

Look at the address, if the number is between 6200-9000, it is close to LLC.

it's at 7200 South...Midvale. Just across the street from the 7200 Trax and unlimited buses to BCC and LCC. More direct routes to BCC tho, but you can still get to LCC for first tracks. 7200 turns into BCC.

Under $50 a night for a good part of last season if you asked for the expedia rate and they had availability. Discounted tix at the desk, 2 day Solitude was like $72, Brighton $36, All four resorts in the Cottonwoods were $40 including the bus on the superpass.

Near several mexican joints..duh..Bohemian Brewery, etc. Trax will take you into town, bla, bla, bla. Free contischmental breakfast(bring your own protein/meats), grody hottub, fridge and microwave in room if you ask early..Hooters is within striking distance..as are a bunch of other ff joints.

shuttle will take you there from the airport for about $15 + tip so you really don't need a car.

just purchased my Brighton pass online...opening day Nov ????

First off, welcome JONG! :D

Ok, that had to be done. Yes, everyone is welcome to come to this, kinda why we have it, to meet new maggots, well, and ski the shit out of the mountains.

Do we ALL know each other, no: Do we know alot of us, mostly, are we always wanting to meet a new maggot and ski/have a beer,.....yes, are we a"family". yes, that kinda happens over time with the "crew" you associate with mostly. For me, it is the Utards.

I know these people from here, the close knit community of people who love to ski. I have met many, and want to meet more. Most here feel the same, or they would not be wasting their time here.

We would love to ski or board with you, as long as you keep up. :D There are many of these people I don't keep up with, but we still make laps and hook up with each other later.

Please come. The more the better. Please do tell us more about you too. Location, age, years skiing, dogs name, favorite beer, what do you want to be when you grow up, blah blah blah......bust size if you feel so inclined. :D Im just messin.

Sharing rooms for this thing is kinda of a "i kinda know you good enough from the board, lets save some money". If know one knows ya, well, you get made fun of a bunch. :p

Stay tuned on this thread, as it will be at the top as "sticky" till it is all over.

For instance, looks as though Telenater is coming!!! I have yet to meet him, but have had near misses in the last year, a good 4-5 times. Finally I can meet this great dood and make some turns and drink some beer with him!!

Feel free to PM me with other questions, but get out here, it will be a damn good time. Email addy can be found in first post I believe too.

Schedule will be as follows (so far):

Find mountain with most snow and ski it till you can't no more! :D

I ski.
I may be able to provide some lodging. (We'll see what the wife says when it gets closer) I'll be skiing on the weekend. I'm definitely in for a day at the Bird (in 2 minis in a row how can there not have been one day at the bird?)
It seems that so many other mags are bringing a storm that I don't have to bother with it.

If you are flying to Utah and arrive in the morning or mid day with enough time to bolt up to The Canyons, Park City, or Deer Valley, you can register and use your boarding pass from your flight to get a free lift ticket. Wouldn't be a bad way to get your Utah stoke going with a free lift ticket for the day you arrive.

I'm hoping for a day on Timpanogos or Tibble Fork and maybe a day in the Uintas if it's stable. So all you mini goers, reserve atleast one day for some bc rompin, or I'm stuck with my dog again.

I propose starting a Utah Mini stoke thread. All the great itah shots that have been amassed among the Utah crew should be posted up for the sake of those in less snowy places. I would volunteer to start one, but since I live in Nj and have never been to utah, I don't have any stoke to volunteer. Maybe we could even get sticky status for it ONS? Pretty Please?;)

Go ahead and pull some pics and post em. I don't think we need it sticky though, hell, the JH Summit thread is not even sticky yet. I just did not want to bump the MINI thread a bunch and fill it up with useless crap.

I am sure if you start a pics thread of Utah snow and skiing, many will chime in and put pics up too, it is that time of season. :D

Good question Duker. We WILL have the "most everyone want to go here" schedule put together on this thread as we get closer.

I think the key factor here is:

"Who has the most snow with least amount of skiers."

That is where I like to go. :D

We will let you all know, as you all need to tell me where ya want to go what days.

Glade and Teledave got their way with the dates. ;)

Who want to pony up a schedule for what mountains what days? Too early maybe?

I am seeing a Solisunday request as well. Last year I was at Snowbasin Sat and Sun and both days were out of this world.

Personally I see me hitting Alta on Friday, GMD giveaway and maggot fundum and beers apres ski, Basin or Bird on Sat and Solitude on Sunday. I must save the rest of my vaca for the baby in Feb.

You can always join us Sunday too!! ;) :D

$219 after tax right now. The Delta flight gets in an hour earlier (9:10 am), so that's preferred IF I can get a good price. One hour earlier = one more hour if skiing after all!

So what day are we planning to hit Snowbasin? I was hoping to head there during our trip, but we're leaving Sunday morning. Maybe Wednesday or Thursday at the Basin for some eerily uncrowded skiing? I like the idea of SoliSunday simply because my dad and I can hit it Sunday the 12th. The Bird on Saturday is cool with me, but for the love of God, we need a day at Snowbasin, I've heard so much about the place. Or if not, I'm sure a couple of maggots wouldn't mind heading up and joining us. Either way, I'm super stoked for my trip and the MiniSummit. Just over 2 months now, I can feel it getting closer. Now all we need is about 5 or 6 feet of powder in Utah the week I'm there. [antijinx] :D

Oh, and Buzz, you forgot to include my dad on the list of people attending, or is the list only for registered maggots? A friend of mine and his dad will be out there too, both are super cool guys, so they may join the group several days too. Just thought I'd let ya know.

Really, at this point it is all up in the air as we will make the decision based on snow quantity and quality. Alta is always the Friday ski place. That is a done deal. Got lots of flack for not doing Solisunday last year so I figured mix it up this year. Sat Bird because of deal. BUT, maybe everybody and their sister plans this day too there.

Well, kinda, but there is no snow yet, so it really does not count yet, ya know?

Wed December 15 - I am working, others are straggling in, some will be gittin sum somewhere.

Thur Dec 16- I am working again, sounds like a good day for those that are here to hit Snowbasin

Fri Dec 17 - I am skiing Alta (to the best of my snowboarder ability), get beers early after getting worked at GMD, be Buzz by the time the give away at GMD at Alta, lots of stinky wet beer drinkin comraderie and free goodies, then we conveine to _______________ place for the MINI party. Still do not know who __________________ is yet, Boarderline and Altachic are battling it out. :D

Sat Dec 18 - Snowbird, I will be boarding with the boarding contingent (so far). I have two 2 for 1 tickets, Lynx has two, many others have them. May be some crowds on a Saturday, but half price is worth it, hell it is the Bird and is huge. I need half of one of my 2 coupons, so I have three more maggots I can get in half price.

Sun Dec 19- The great debate. Solisinday or Snowbasin???

I love both places. One is very close to my house, which is a nice plus for me :D . Flykdog will only be able to ski at Basin and is hoping on some of us to join him. GT40 and the Meats family and more usually hit Basin. BobMc will be playing tour guide at Solitude (may even see a Woodsy sighting on the slopes).

At this point, I am torn.

And all of this, besides LCC on Friday for sure, is dependent on the snowpack. If one mountain has way more than another........well, you can fugure out where people will go.

Best bet is to keep checking back to see what will happen once the snow flies.

Other attendees: Put up the schedule you plan to do and lets see who is where.

I think there is plenty of love for the canyons. Mid Dec. is just so hit and miss in terms of snow. LCC and BCC are more reliable.

Ok, I really want to get serious about attending the utah mini. However, it's going to be $$$ for me. Plane ticket + lift tickets + housing + food = around $600. Plus I need to take an avie class either in Dec. or in January. And that's $300-ish.

Are there any hostels in SLC? I should probably read this entire thread. I really want to go.....

Can I stash it on the plane in my bag without security calling me out on it? Will it shake up because of the altitude change in flight? Was that a dumb question? Maybe I'll just wrap it as a gift and carry it on.

Anyway, YES I'm willing to bring a 24 case of anything of your choosing for a night or two stay at a maggot place. Oh, and consider me two people = two 24 packs. I gotta consider the fact I'll be staying along side Legosker! :)

I think as long as its clearly labeled as beer they won't mind (i.e., they won't let you carry on an unmarked container of liquid that could potentially be explosive).

The altitude won't affect the beer since it's sealed.

I'm still a little on the fence on going. I really want to, but I'm trying to figure out where I should get a hotel, if I need a rental car, etc. I'd really like to get a flight for under $200, but I'm not counting on it especially with the price of oil through the roof. Right now the best I can do is SWA for around $230.

The UTA site doesn't show the winter bus schedule yet, and I can't find it anywhere on the web. Do the buses run all day, or just in the morning and evening? Right now it looks like I'll get in Friday at 10:30 am and leave Sunday at 5:20 pm, so obviously I'd need to find some other way to/from the mountains both days if I can't take the bus.

Anyone else out there looking to share a hotel room? The Sandy BW looks pretty good, but would look even better with the price split in half :)

From past experiences (kinda phUnk like :p) showing up a bit late sometimes, buses are still in my damn way up the road.

I have a good feeling that you will end up crammed in a car full of out of townermaggots with all your stinky ski gear heading out from one of the BW's. Sandy and Midvale, Sandy BW was more used I do believe.

Trust me and the utards, we are not going to let you fly out here to sit in a room, we will get you to the mountain somehow. I am not sure at this point what my car load looks like, but I gotta drive up there too, so that is at least one maggot heading up to ski/ride. :D

The Best Western Executive Inn in Midvale (next to the 7200 S TRAX station) is $57 per night on www.travelocity.com. The price I saw quoted on their website is $69 and both Expedia and Orbitz show it a few dollars more than travelocity.

Thier deal for the mini time-frame is this.

1 night standard room lodging (either 1 King or 2 queens) is $149.

included per night-

-2 LIFT PASSES TO ANY OF THE 4 Cottonwood ski resorts (do the math)

- Happy Hour (free drinks) Sun-Thurs

-continental breakfast

-shuttle to and from the 9000 S trax station (busses to canyon mouths leave every 15 minutes)

-fresh cookies at the check in counter (yeah they are guud)

-airport shuttle is I think 7-bucks to airport.

Its a nice place with pool, jaccuzi. Located within 1/4 mile of tons of restarants, mall, Canyon Sports, Boarders Choice, REI, Iggy's Sports Bar.

To bring beer/booze, bring it carry-on the plane. If you put it below you risk the stuff breaking. Bring it carry-on, you don't want all your clothes reaking of booze.

I always check my beer, partly because I'm underage, but partly because it just seems like less of a hassle than carrying it on. Wrap each bottle individually with something thick and soft, then place in between clothes in luggage. It's worked for me with up to 9 22oz bombers, but if you want to keep it in the original case box, maybe it would be simpler to carry it on. Although double check to make sure it's allowed. Somewhere in my memory I remember someone being told that they couldn't bring outside alcohol onboard a plane.

The AD

I just checked Delta's website and only alcohol over 140 proof is considered a dangerous material, and therefore can't be carried on: http://www.delta.com/travel/plan/baggage_info/special_baggage/dangerous_goods/index.jsp

So I guess you should leave that Bacardi 151 at home :)

I'm sure this policy is typical for all airlines.

you can't bring on a beer to drink, but you can carry on as a means of transport. i used to fly with handles to colorado for ski trips. wine may uncork if it is poorly corked to begin with. alway wrap with some foam and put in multiple sealed plastic bags. things have a way of breaking on planes.

I committed! We're staying at the Marriott in SLC...only b/c it was the cheapest I could get. At only $40/night I will not be complaining regardless. Our flights are also booked. We'll be in town from Dec. 15-10. :D

Now I just have to rent a car. Or is this really necessary? Is there some type of public transport kind of thing-y that I can rely on? Or would it be better to just get my own car?

Killer deal, I am staying there in Nov for a trade show for $139 a night (on the company).

Check out the first post. UTA Trax and Bus in available to get you there. From Downtown, it may be to your advantage to rent a Jeep Liberty or something like it. Must have chains, 4WD or AWD to gain access up LCC and BCC, so the sign says and I personally would not be without.

If you can afford to rent a car, rent it. While you can take public transportation to the resort, it kind of sucks from downtown (I did it all last winter). You're lucky in that you're close to Trax, so you can take Trax to a ski bus. But you're looking at an hour and fifteen minutes to Snowbird, maybe 1:30. Plus you're at the mercy of the schedule of the bus, and if it gets crowded (though it prolly won't that early season) you'll have to wait for multiple busses.

You don't need 4WD unless you want to be sure you can drive all the way to the resorts. You can catch a bus from the bottom of the Canyon. Though again, if you can afford it you'll like the extra room and convenience.

All this from a dude who doesn't drive :).

Thanks for the info J :) I believe I am going to peruse deals and try to get some type of vehicle because we will have our little lad in tow and it might be traumatic to have him waiting for transport for long periods with all the gear & stuff.

Wonder if anyone knows the answer to this...do most cars there come equipped for ski racks? We have some small, very lightweight, and decent racks we can just toss in a duffle and bring w/ us. Is that worthwhile or should I just rent them from the car place. If I bring mine it would save me $40 presumably, but my husband mentioned that the car would have to have a track thing-y to mount the rack on. SUV's are pretty pricey...lowest I've found was $225 for the 4 days at National I think it was.

And Buzz...I did mean 12/15-19th actually. We will be there very early on Wednesday. I am really happy about the hotel deal, I got it on Priceline.

It's the 2nd time Priceline has yielded a very nice price in a good hotel for me. This summer I got an amazing hotel in San Juan Puerto Rico with a tropical garden patio, amazing views, and real peacocks strolling in and out of our room to hang out when we left the sliders open (seriously!) for only $55/night. It was truly delightful. I never did post pics of that place/that trip...and I should do that sometime when stoke is low.

Anyway, right now stoke is NOT low!!

I have seen plenty of rentals with racks, hell, my Jeep Liberty MUST have one unless you are riding 100 cm skis. There is simply not much room in them but the kick freakin ass in the snow. They are a perfect 3 person snow vehicle with lots of gear. Just fold down the 60 part of the 40/69 split rear seats and plenty of room for gear then.

Talking about the Liberty cause I see a lot of them for rent now for a decent price (from what I have heard from others).

Teledave, did you get a Liberty while you were here? I know someone I rode with did.

Can you tell I like my Jeep (or my wife's Jeep for that matter, I get the Subaru Outback Wagon, life is rough)? :D

sprite, yea, Just keep checking out the deals -they usually change weekly, you still have a little bit of time, so you might find something killer. you may come across an SUV upgrade or special offer through your credit card partners or something similar too.

$15 off 4day rental
$one car class upgrade

Ok, so Lego and I are planning on getting a hotel room, but would be stoked if a couple other maggots would share with us. You know what I mean, don't get all funny on me ;) Anyway, we're just trying to cut costs, and figure adding two more to a room would be ideal. PM me if you want in. We don't have a location or exact dates, but we'll be there the majority of the time - Wednesday night through Sunday night...as far as I know! If I find a hostel for cheap, this may change a few things...but if we can get about 4 people to a room, it should only be about $15/night per person.

Sprite - how did you get that Marriot deal???

-L

snowsprite
10-26-2004, 08:07 PM
Divegirl...I got it thru Priceline! You should definitely give that a try, but only if you're willing to take what you get. I chose a 3 star moderate hotel rating, and figured I'd spin the wheel.

Like I said, Priceline has done me right before. But it is risky if you choose lower than a 3 star rating (you could get a "roach motel" --ack!).

Good luck and let me know how it goes.
:)
Sprite

PS--a little priceline bidding hint: bid in increments of 2 days and you get the very best deal but you have to be willing to change hotels after 2 days (can be a pain). bidding on a 3 night stay also nets good rates.

If you don't get the rate you want...don't give in. Go back in 7 days and try again. break the stay up into 2 days/3 days...however you gotta do it.

The "friend and friend's dad" that are next to my name should be moved. The friend is registered as "ski" here, although he only posted once. They are in the 100% column too for the same dates as me. We must try to draw him out into our little community of the hopelessly addicted.

Has anyone gotten a good rate on a rental car? I was trying for an SUV but it seems a bit steep. I'm coming in 12/15 at 8:30 pm and leaving 12/19 at 8:00 a.m. So I can't really get the "weekend" rate which sux.

I was thinkin' maybe just get a shuttle from the airport to the hotel and then rent a car for Friday/Sat/Sunday (Thursday we can try to get public transport to the slopes). Anyone know how much airport shuttles cost and do you have to wait around a long time for one?

We rented an SUV through Alamo for the 8 day's we'll be there, and I worked out to around $300 bucks for the whole deal, which seems reasonable to me. I can check the axact price later today, but Alamo was the cheapest we found, so give them a look.

Wow! Would you believe I was getting quotes for $250 for the four days? Who did ya talk to and did you use a special coupon or anything. Will definitely check out Alamo.

Just checked Alamo for an SUV with no cupon codes or AAA stuff, and came back with $175 for the 4 days you said. If you call em or look for deals or cupons, you might be able to do better. We booked early, like 2 months ago, so that may have had something to do with it. Good luck.

Any update on the schedule? Maybe a poll?

I'm trying to figure out what days to be sure I don't work (I.E. Snowbasin and Alta) and need to know soon. I assume that Friday the 17th is Alta based on your party post, and from last year Snowbasin will be Sunday the 19th, but I want to be sure.

Thanks!

Friday Alta!

Sat Snowbird! (and Alta for Xover) I am working on getting more 2 for 1 passes. Anyone who went to Soul Purpose in SLC should have one, if you have a pass, pass on the savings to travelling maggots please.

Sun - Solisunday as most people leave that night, closer to airport, plus we have not hit Solitude at a MINI yet.

All other days are up to yall, find the best snow and go. Meet up with others, yada yada. Most come for the 3 day weekend anyway (like me and all other weekend warriors).

However, those that want to hit Basin can on Sunday as well. I am up in the air still on Sunday, as I am close to Basin, but I want to hit Solisunday.

Mixing it up a bit, can't have the same old schedule every year (except ALta on Friday, tradition.

Which is the place closest to Alta (and/or the Friday nite party) where I can take a sno-boarder? I have one of those w/ me, and not sure he will go on skis for a day (but we'll see if I can convince him).

1. Moving to SLC in early December
2. Plan to be in town the whole time
3. Not sure where I’m living yet, so can’t offer any space at this time. I’m willing to drive, have full sized truck with extended cab and bed cap, can comfortably seat six and all their gear.
4. Ski, would like to explore some back country in the cotton woods
5. Always

Duker,

I will already be down that way, skiing Alta (to the best of my ability) on Friday, doing the giveaway, party at Boarderlines. I tend to not be a good driver as I have stuff to do each day for this and have another assignment from overseas to get pics and write up a TR for a publication.

Plus if I was heading from home, home is in Clinton, south Ogden. Just work anymore in Logan.

Meet us down there for sure!!! Radios are key, channel 5-13 is the maggot channel. I will have mine on.

Anyone interested in doing the two-for-one Jet Blue thing from New York with Crash?

Had a great day at Killington yesterday with Sprite, Pete, Shuss and as an added bonus found out the mini is in two weeks!

Am planning to arrive on Thursday from Philly, but if someone else wants to fly out of NY, would consider flying Jet Blue to get the toofer. Would like to return on Monday.

Do need a bed, hopefully in Sandy.

Ski, so am stoked about Alta on Friday(sorry, Pete)

Have you noticed the cumulative snowfall in Philly so far?!

Yay! So glad to hear you decided to go. After trekking 7hrs + all the way from Philly to ski on the relatively limited terrain of Killington w/ the masses, I think you owe it to yourself to get some real goods very soon.

Looking forward to making turns (or rather straightlining powder!) w/ you again!

2. What dates will you be here? 16-18
3. Do you need lodging and where is preferable? Need lodging, anyone out in in SLC still got room on the floor, both of us a scrounging for $$$$$
4. Do you ski or board? ski
5. Are you going to bring a big snow storm with you?? HELL YES :the_finge

As noted in my crabs thread (http://tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21052), I am planning on making my first-ever Summit appearance at Alta on Friday the 17th. Being without any kind of mad steeze or big air skills as I am, I'm hoping to hang onto some maggot's coattails.

A question for the Alta experts out there. My flight gets in (and it will be on time, dammit) Friday morning at 10:15. What would be the quickest way to get to Alta? Shuttle? Any suggestions on what shuttle company to use?

Then when I get to Alta I'll need to drop off my bags. I'm not staying at Alta, so any suggestions where to do check my bags for the day would be helpful. I'm staying with Mcwop, and he'll have a car, so I'm covered for getting to the hotel after skiing/GMD festivities.

Can't wait :)

The plan is for me to be gaping the groomers, if there are any, on skis. I plan to have my radio set to 5-13, the maggot channel. Provided I hear it this time, you could stash your bags in my already full car, but I think we can find room somewhere.

There is a SLIGHT possibility I will be at the Bird with a few other boarders too, still up in the air as my skis are not up and running yet. May need to borrow a pair, Lumpy???? If not, I will be on the board over at the Bird.

Someone has to have some room in a car.

I have not skied yet this year and it looks like Alta is the first day.

Or PM me for my cellie #. I doubt I will be too far from the bottom.

AD - I'm torn between being a good maggot and picking you up at the airport and being at Alta early. If I were to be your personal chaffeur, you could leave your bags in my car for the day.

I certainly understand your dilemma. Obviously I wouldn't turn down a personal chauffeur, but I'll be fine without one. Keep in mind my flight could be late, and the odds of this only increase if it's a powder day!

If I were you, I'd say screw me :)
