loose dynafit heel pins

i know this has probally been covered somewher, but i cannot find it...

anyway ive noticed boot play from the heel, and discovered that one of my dynafit classic heel pins is very loose, with relatively considerable play and very spinny. can this be fixed by a tightening of some screw? or is it a sign of terminal decline?

Check the four screws on top of the heel plate (i.e., the part your boot heel rests on top of when you're skinning with the heel elevator). You'll need a #10 Torx (which you can often get for free at bike shops, since some disc brake kit comes with them). Be careful to make it tight, but not too tight, since you can strip the screw threads if you get carried away.

Oh, also: in case you're ever tempted to uninstall these screws for some reason, be sure to back off the vertical release tension screw entirely before doing so.

I just spot checked the heel pins on the household's half-dozen pairs of Dynafits (1x TLT Classic/Speed, 4x Comfort, 1x Vertical ST): no spinning at all of the heel pins when I grasped them fairly firmly with my thumb and index finger.

By contrast, the heel pins on a partially disassembled heel piece spun freely.

No spin in my heel pins either. I would disassemble the unit and inspect it, directions can be found here (http://www.wildsnow.com/articles/dynafit_faq/heel-breakdown.html).

I will second backing off the release before dissasembling heel

I've made that mistake before and will thank the lord for giving us lou and wildsnow so I could put the thing back together

yeah that was a complete, "OH FUCK" moment when the whole thing just blew apart after I loosened the 4th screw
