Make yourselves heard here! Help me convince my buddies girlfriend that the Jackson Summit will not be a testosterone fueled sausage fest!

The three of us are definitely making our way out west this winter, and, of course, I'm leaning towards the Maggot Summit. However, there might be some concern on her part that she'd be lost in the hustle and bustle for first tracks and sphincter tightening terrain. She's a pretty solid telemarker (she's better that she thinks) who has tackled Tuckerman Bowl (in varying degrees of glory) and is slowly making her way through all that Jay Peak has to offer (reasonable glades are no problem).

Personally, I know that things would be cool, but it might help to have others toss in their two cents.

So, as I tried to ask in an earlier ill-conceived thread, throw your voices into this thread and I'll pass it all on. An all female day would really sweeten the deal for her (an all female tele day might be asking too much...).

Thanks!

Sick and ashamed and happy (and hopefully not out of line),
d.

The worst thing that happens is she wants to go ski by herself. And anyone who can't have fun skiing JH is dead.

dood-

there will be a slew of female civilians amongst us...good skiers looking to ski w/other chicks not interested in red-bulling corbetts.

Besides...who's going to throw your drunk-ass buddy into a cab before climbing the 'antler-arch'? :D

she can alwasy hang with me, Gimpy McRehab. unless i amaze myself and am able to charge multiple days in a row by then. in which case, she can always hang with me.

although, if you go by my track record, you could say that i've lost you and your entourage every day we've attempted to ski together except for that one mini summit day.
i've always had a problem sticking to groups when i'm skiing first. yes i make a great guide ;)

We are going to wear panties on the first day. If this doesn't seal the deal, I don't know what will.

Ah, basehead, even in rehab mode I have no doubt that you'll smoke most of the maggots. How 'bout your crew though? Are they planning on being there?

And how about Mrs Roo? Divegirl? SheRa? Snowsprite? Bomber? Bueller?

Me, I know things will be fine. But anything you care to write will just give my case more weight.

Sick and ashamed and happy (and I'll throw an edit in here 'cause I'm a moron and I forgot kellie in the above list),

I will be there! :) I'm sure there will be wives, girlfriends of other maggots, other magettes and the like attending the summit. We'll all gather together and have a ski day, or at least stick together for half a day, ourselves. It will probably be an impromptu thing, but hey, it's a good idea. In the meantime, however, I'm going to hone my skiing skills with the boys who I can keep up with! :)

And I hope SheRa, etc. will be there!

Edit: Well said, snowsprite!!!

We were kinda talking about this in the girl-summit problem thread last week.

I am not sure if we will necessarily splinter into an all-maggette group though that might happen. However, I think she will find plenty of good company--male and female--who are willing to ski with her at whatever level she's comfortable with. And to help her push her limits if that's what she wants to do. Tell her I'm a horrible skier and I never felt "lost in the shuffle" at the last summit. In fact, many excellent skiers took the time to ski a run (or many) with me!

Also, maybe show her some photos of Jackson too and the trail map so she can get familiar w/ the various terrain offered. If she feels threatened about difficult terrain or anything she'll see the diversity and it will set her mind at ease and get her stoked up about it.

As for the fun factor, stress the fact that there will be cool activities and that the maggots are very accepting of friends, spouses, hangers-on. It's all about riding, bonding and having a good time. Who wouldn't want to do that?

Perhaps my best piece of advice is this though: tell her to register here and check out the board firsthand. Gin, you're one of the people here I most admire and I'm sure any friend of yours would be someone I (and many others) would be happy to welcome to the forum.

Any girl who thinks a Summit or mini summit is a sausage fest is....totally right.

BUT, that is absolutely no reason to puss out and not show up for a really good time, with amazing folks, who all love to ski. That is why we come together. It's pretty simple.

If this girl thinks that so many dudes will ruin a good time, she has no idea. I've skied with all guys, for the most part for the past 6 or 7 years. There is nothing better than having the maggots push you to be a better skier and it always turns out to be a blast.

'nuff said.

I'm sure his girlfriend doesn't want to be around a bunch of hot skier dudes for a week. I sure as hell wouldn't want to hang out with like 100 hot girls for like a week, that would suck. (yeah right)

I never lived in Jackson, but I love skiing there,& there seem to be quite a few local ladies about the place.Obviously one more wouldn't hurt, but I think there is a a good core of female skiers there.More to the point,Jackson will learn ya!Another good measure of the local talent is when national acts play the moose!

She should come. Any girl interested in a ski trip is cool. If she feels pushed out of her comfort zone she can take a lesson during the day and catch the great party'n at night.

There are always a range of ability levels and I'm sure she'll have fun no matter what. I'll be bringing both tele and alpine gear for whatever that's worth...

i think there's going to be more women around than you might think...

I know a few that'll be around in addition to the otherwise known bunch...and I'm sure there are others...gfs, spouses, mistresses, JH hotties that we pick up, the TGR office ladies (heyyyyyyyyy), and so on.

Tell her to come.

Had the same problem. These silly people convinced me completely that my lady friend (not an actual lady friend, just a friend who happens to be a lady) will have plenty good of a time on the few acres of milder terrain in Jackson (from what I understand, Blue at Jackson is actually the equivalent of Black at most other resorts in the country) and with the group of milder skiers.

Tell your friend, gin, that some stupid jongs from Louisiana will be there, including a girl. That oughta be enough for her...

I'll be there - can't promise a maggettes day, but the groups tend to break off into people who ride well together, and she just might get a new friend out of it.

I agree with Sprite though: have her check out the board, especially once winter comes and people are super stoked - most skiers will be inspired by that kind of enthusiasm and passion, and likely want to be a part of it.

More then once, I've been called a pussy, and I'll be there.

On a serious note, the summits are large enough with enough variety of skiers. Anyone of almost any ability can find a group that they'll click with. Yeah, it'll be a sausage fest, but it'll be some of the coolest people she may ever meet. If she was a beginner or an intermediate skier, I'd say she'd probablyhave problems fitting in (on the skiing/riding side of the summit).

However, Gin stated that she's not a bad skier, so there's no reason that she couldn't find a group to hang out with. Even if she ends up with a group that's beyond her ability, she'd still almost certainly fit in.

A solid majority of the Maggots are all about quality, not quantity and we're very relaxed with regards to getting in our vertical. Most of us take the time to pick out a quality or interesting line, and we're not usually in a mad rush at all. Most of us like to push each other a bit, even if that means waiting on the slow guy. I can't tell you how many times I've been that 'slow guy,' while the rest of the group's down below waiting on my sorry ass. I also can't tell you how many times there'd be a big group of us waiting good, long amounts of time on one of the better skiers who took a trickier line then the rest of us.

She should go and not worry about anyone leaving her behind or whatever. She will have a good time. Guarenteed, or Frozenwater will double her money back!

Absolutely. Mind you, it will be friends, not 'a friend.' There's no possible way to come out of the summit without a solid handful of good, new friends. Impossible not to. (Unless your in stealth mode, like Sherpa_Style seemed to be at the Utah Mini, although I bet she still made some new friends!)

Seriously, an intermediate skier would be out paced? Well that doesn't bode well for me bringing the little woman. I've been reading the board for a while and thought it seemed a little more mixed than just advanced/expert.

It doesn't matter. Have her go anyway. At the very least, it ends up being a regular ski trip to Jackson. Even if you're an intermediate, I can't imagine going to the Summit and not having the time of your life.

.... well... uh... probably. I don't want to exclude anyone, especially not a female, but....

Sponsored is correct. It's a ski trip to Jackson. How can you not have fun?!?!?

However, one of the basic, most common traits of everyone on this board is that we all are decent skiers. (Notice I didn't say that it was an absolute common trait, as some of us still suck balls at skiing.) There's got to be some intermediate Maggots on the board, but I've yet to see any at the summits. We vary greatly in our ability - usually from a very solid advanced skier/board to a absolutely phenomenal rockstar skier/boarder. Not too many so-so advanced skiers or intermediate skiers.

I can think of a handful of people who've brought intermediate skiers. One came with a large group with a couple of 'em. They pretty much skied with themselves away from the Maggots. A few other Maggots have brought significant others and/or family members who weren't the best of skiers or boarders. They either skied with them, or the significant others/family members skied by themselves.

However, here's one thing that I can almost guarentee - there's a few Maggettes who'd be more then happy to hang out with your wife for a day or two. There's several (who I really can't really vouch for) but have such a love for the sport and want to decrease the gap between the genders, that they'd be very happy to hang out with a fellow female in hopes that she'd find the love for the sport, too.

Phew, you had me worried there for a minute that you were going to tell the truth and just come right out and say that I ski like girl. I owe you a beer or six at the Summit for that.

Seriously, gin; it sounds like she's about the same level telemarker as I am and while I wasn't with the extremo group at the UT mini I still found an abundance of maggots to ski with. I don't think she would have a problem, solid skils will go a long way.

Ubersheist...total intermediate here! And I really didn't feel out of place at all at the Tahoe summit. But then I don't expect anyone to babysit me. It was just a nice bonus that folks took the time to hang w/ me on many runs.

stealth mode, eh? I'll work on making more of an appearance at the jxn summit. I'll be there for the season again, so as long as I dont have to work too much, I'll be in full force. :D

Maggettes- we'll definately have to try to organize a maggette day or a maggette tour.

Actually, I was going to say how you sucked at other things, but since you brought up skiing...

Did I ski with you? I don't think that I did. If you did, I certainly don't remember waiting on you... or was it that you were waiting on me? I do remember sharing a beer or two with you in the base lodge while you told tales of waiting around at airport terminals and such... Good God, I'm surprised I remember that! I usually can't even remember which bankinginstitution that I do business with.

Wait... I think we may have taken a run or two at Alta... but I can't really remember. I am not sure, but I'm not that proud and I'll take the six pack either way!

ME - I would take Snowsprite's words over mine, as she's probably in a better position to give an opinion then myself.

Honestly, I wouldn't shy away just because the bulk of the group will be more advanced. There really will be enough people there so that everyone can find thier niche.

Sherpa - you'd better not be so stealthy this next time! You denied us all your presence and your personality, for which we all were a bit disheartened from. [/sappy BS]

Actually, I just remember you saying at the brew-ha-ha at the end of the day at Snowbasin how you couldn't find any other maggots while you were skiing. Somewhere in it all, a few of us were talking and realized that no one had really seen you that weekend. I think it was that you were hanging out with your brother for most of the time.

So, we can expect a local's tour from you, right?!? :D ;) God, I love getting to a resort and being shown around by a local!

Sorry, Gin, I'm a bit slow to pick up on this thread.

I definately am more intermediate but what I found is that the pack tends to thin out into groups that are of a similar level. Even those groups varied depending on who was taking it a bit more easy on that day (thanks to Ubersheist for his advice on a particularly gloopy Scott's Chute during our day at Alpine).

I get the feeling that as long as you're willing to give things a go and challenge yourself, no matter what level you start at, the Mags will respect you. This season, I squealed (with glee) my way down a half pipe for the first time and skied my first chute. Despite fear and apprehension, the mags who were around were encouraging and supportive.

An all maggette day would be interesting but there will still be variation in skills. I haven't seen a maggette disappear down a hill as quickly as Kellie, for example. I was still prodding at the top then fell on my ass.

:o

I would like to be at the summit, but it sounds like she'd be better than me anyway. Most people are!

i think us magettes will find plenty of trouble (on and off the slopes;) together!

definitely, i'm for anyone helping to boost the % of girls so we won't be so outnumbered.

it kinda sucks that the JH women's ski camps are before/at the end of the summit, because they're supposed to be pretty damn good - but maybe there's an opportunity to create a private women's group lesson here.

or, all the girls who don't ride already can take their first snowboard lessons & collectively suck. (that'll make you feel better about your skiing:)

Glad to hear that there are quite a few Maggettes and female attendes. My wife will be there with me, she is a pretty decent intermediate skier, who hates skiing with me, so ladies keep her in mind when you get there. I'll pass this info on to her. I am sure she'll be happy to go ski with you, she is just not as passionate about skiing as most of us are.

cheers.
