I am thinking about ordering about a 1000 dollars worth of gear from a shop in europe.
What will us customs ram ($) me with?
anything else?

How is it being shipped to you ? The shipper might pay duties and taxes if there are any.

Ordered stuff from Sport Conrad in Germany before, zero duty or tax to pay upon arrival.

I’ve never had a problem or been charged any fees when ordering bike stuff from chainreactioncycles.com located in England. But I think they operate out of a free trade zone that somehow manages to avoid customs charges.
Like you, however, I have a cart full of ski gear from Europe (Telemark Pyrenees) and when I e-mailed them about customs fees… they basically said it was hit-or-miss but that small items would often slip through without fees. So far, I’ve been unwilling to pull the trigger without knowing exactly how much it’s going to cost.

Not a change...
Receiver is always responsible for duties, customs fees and taxes.
Cono, like has been mentioned, it's a hit or miss... You might get slammed with customs/import tax or not.

Actually, no. Some shippers have bonded warehouses, etc, and deal with all that up front, so what you pay is what you pay. Backcountry.com does that for orders to Canada for example...
The OP's question is impossible to answer however, as we don't know what he is ordering. Tarrifs are variable based on what the items are, where they were made, etc. TP has a page with a few examples of duties (http://www.telemark-pyrenees.com/shop/article_info.php?articles_id=28) on their site.

Yes, but that doesn't change the fact that in the end, the receiver is always responsible for the taxes and customs fees. BC just happens to be nice enough to do it for ya.
