A buddy is trying to get me to tag along on a trip up to do the dog in May. I haven't really heard too much about it, pretty ignorant to Canadian paddling, haven't been able to find any info, but the few pics he has shown me look incredible. Anybody got anything for me?

So i guess i'm not the only one who hasn't heard of it
Never heard of it, but CCR is a good resource for Canadian tripping:

... assuming that's the same Dog River.

You've got the wrong province, it's Ontario. The river flows into Lake Superior. Beware of June's blackfly swarms.
Not sure if you've got Denison in your picture. There are a few falls on the run.
These pictures are of Denison and the normal way to end the trip.

Canadian Shield rivers have a different character than other parts of the continent. They are stair steps with most of the gradient taken up by falls. Those going into Lake Superior have their biggest falls right before entering the lake. Denison is right before the lake and starts in a creepy box gorge. The portage is more of a route than a trail. Short ropes come in handy for lowering boats. The Dog has several falls, but is distinguished by having a number of class IV rapids, too.
We did it as a two night trip. You can arrange the fishing boat pickup thru an outfitter in Michpicoten Bay.
You can read about the US Lake Superior runs in this: http://www.amazon.com/Northwoods-Whitewater-Paddlers-Minnesota-Wisconsin/dp/0917939034
The Rada's guide mentions the Dog briefly and a few runs near Thunder Bay, too. The US runs season is in April, whereas the Dog comes out of some big lakes and has a later runoff.
