I just picked up some new STH 12's (worm screw style heel) and there's a bit of slop in the interface between the actual heel piece and the track it slides in. Basically, the heel jiggles a little side to side because it isn't super tight in the track that it slides in. The slop appears to be completely gone once a boot is clicked into the binding (slop is gone once the forward pressure spring is loaded).

Is this normal? My only other experience w/ Salomon bindings are with ones that have tabbed adjustment, and it seems like the spring / tab engagement on those eliminates any similar slop that would occur.

As long as the slop goes away when you step into the bindings you should be fine. I have seen this before from Salomon and other bindings.

Yeah, as far as I can tell, the slop disappears once I step in. Its a little tough to tell, because once I'm in, the spring pressure, as well as the toe piece (through the boot) are effectively keeping the heel from moving around, so it could be that the slop is still there, but its just a lot harder to detect.

Awesome. That is exactly what I was hoping to hear.

Thanks.
